Yow: I Would Rather Win Than Be Popular

Yow’s press conference has just ended. We wanted to open this entry so everyone could post their thoughts.

Everybody loves a winner, nobody knows a loser.

    Simple as that folks.

After saying how professional and qualified Yow is, why would anyone think she would be so unprofessional as to make Harper uncomfortable? And why would you think Lowe is safe because she was Kay’s friend?

This is exactly what I would expect from any new AD. Anyone that expects anything less either doesn’t think very much of Yow or is engaged in mindless speculation.

I haven’t realy formed too much of an opinion of the hire except that we hired an AD with BCS experience, which is more than I thought we would get.

As far as her reputation, if you step into a situation where you have to kick ass and take names, you are not going to be popular. That doesn’t mean you are wrong. Personally, I hope a lot of people in the athletic department don’t like her. That will mean she is turning up the heat on people who need it.

There’s a fine line between being a drill sergeant and inspring your unit and demanding respect and accountability. This is the line that Yow is qualified to know how to ever so delicately tow.

Fowler didn’t put the fear of anything in anyone, and he was taken advantage of. He hardly ever held anyone accountable. To be fair, there wasn’t really anyone holding him accountable, either. This was never solely Fowler’s fault. There are others that condoned it.

So the dynamic has now changed in a matter of months. Woodson, we know, will not accept mediocrity. Neither will Yow. But the key will be can she make the necessary changes, and can she rally the troops so to speak and inspire them to perform to the best of their abilities? We know she knows how to lead, but will she be able to here? Or is the situation more cantankerous at NCSU than many of us have been led to believe. Let us hope not.

^ Some people will not make changes (out of spite) and some are incapable of change. I’d guess we will see a lot of changes in the overall athletic department over the next 1-2 years.
