Who cares what Obama thinks? Go Terps, Jackets and Blue Devils

Good luck the ACC schools today, even if Barack Obama has something against Gary Williams.

Over the last 24 hours our readers have been voting on how many ACC teams will advance to the Sweet 16. A majority of 56% say that the magic number is 2. Here is hoping all three make it! You click here for some brief prep work for the ACC’s big day.

Just because you have to see it again…here is a link to the Northen Iowa video from yesterday.

We’ll have a little more as the day progresses.

I like that Obama has definitive sports opinions and is willing to share them. That’s very refreshing, coming from a politician. But he’s nuts if he doesn’t think GW is every bit as great a coach as is Tom Izzo.

It boggles the mind that Paul Hewitt has won 4 tournament games this season. Quite the topsy-turvy world we are living in.

Duke will make it through, Maryland’s a coin flip. I expect Cornell to have too much offense for Wisconsin, setting up a very interesting contrast of styles against the Shadow Pack (tm, BJD95) in the Round of 16.

This has turned into quite the tournament, and it now has a most compelling storyline – a whole host of scrappy, well-coached teams (assuming GT loses today) against a runaway freight train of well-motivated talent (Kentucky). Can’t wait for Thursday night!

I’ve got several “digs” at Obama’s health care. Yes health care needs to be reformed, but what we’re doing is… oh how does that one saying go, “It’s like killing a fly with an assault rifle” .. or something like that?

    Anyways, go Maryland!

i hope UAB puts an ole fashion ass whupping on the heels.

Cornell is making Wisconsin look silly…

I care just as little what the President thinks about basketball as I do what a sports site has to say about politics. My bracket is destroyed, is I’m just pulling for good stories and good games, plus whoever is playing against Kentucky. It’s a pipe dream, but this might be the year that a mid-major can pull off a huge run to the championship.

Even though it’s against the ACC, I had to pull for Ohio State today. I’ve got too many tuition checks to be written to that institution to pull against them.

I would imagine that you needed head gear to play in the UMd/MSU match up today.

Glad to see Cornell advance and I’d love to see what Reliant Stadium looks like with the Aggies in the Sweet 16.

Vasquez has willed the Terps to the brink of victory

Maryland with an amazing comeback, now up by 1 – Spartans with 31.6 seconds and a chance for the last shot.

Lucas wins it at the buzzer for Michigan State. Unbelieveable finish!

  10. BJD95 03/21/2010 at 4:35 PM #

What an ending for the Terps and Sparty. Total heartbreak for Maryland.

  11. MrPlywood 03/21/2010 at 4:36 PM #

Holy – what an ending. State scores to go up 1, MD scores to retake the lead, State gets the ball with about 6 ticks left and scores at the buzzer. Too bad for MD. Much as Vasquez gets under my skin, I would love to have a go-to guard like that playing for NC State.

Izzo is a winner. His teams are always ready at tournament time. Maryland made an incredible comeback today.

I agree Mr. Plywood. I never liked Vasquez’s showboating and trashtalking, but I totally respect his game. He gets everyone involved and he is not afraid to take the big shot.

Duke better come through. It would be a little awkward if the PAC 10 has two in the Sweet 16 and the ACC none.

I think Cal is about to give Duke a run for their money.. Pac 10 haters will have to eat some crow if that happens.

Duke looks good with the Plumlee brothers playing together. I wonder if the 3rd Plumlee will also commit to Duke.

    Who cares what Obama thinks[!]

    Exactly!

Filling out a bracket is so elitist.

I love this Sweet Sixteen. Incredibly compelling. Powers and underdogs. Old veteran programs and newcomers. Majors and mid-majors.

If the Shadow Pack make it to the Final Four, I think they run away with it. Their two hardest matchups are their next two – Cornell and West Virginia.

I’ve been out of the country for a while and just returned to look at all these NCAA scores (and our dismal performance against UAB), and it’s clear to me that the ACC has fallen very far. One team in the Sweet 16? Wow. Never thought I’d see that day. I guess to be fair, Maryand was a possession away from being in. Tough tournament for the ACC, I hope Duke can get to the Final Four. And yea, with all these upsets, it looks to be a great tournament. Can’t wait to watch the games from here on out. Go Big Red!

I think the first weekend of the tournament speaks volumes about how grossly over rated the Big East was this year. With five teams seeded in the top 12 they manage only two getting through to the Sweet 16. Given the seeding of the teams from the ACC, you could realistically only expect Duke to make it through as a “sure” thing. UMd in a 4-5 game was a toss up to make it.

    Obama pawns BJD…LMAO.
