“Just to clarify, Sid’s predecessor only won 13 games in his fifth season. And we STILL kept him for a 6th season. It was not until his 6th season that we finally made it to the big dance.”
    ——————————————————-
RIGHT, that’s exactly what I’m saying…. if Sid’s 5th is worse than his 4th…. I say we don’t renew… and actually TERMINATE. I’m just moving the year’s AHEAD by one for Sid, since he DOES have a top flight coming in next year, just like Herb had a top flight one come in for his 6th (enter the Jules from Harlem).

“I am 30 years old and have been a pack fan for as long as I can remember mostly because all my friends were UNX fans growing up and I didnt want to be part of that crowd.”
    ————————————————————
I’m 8 years your senior Wolf, but other than that you and I are ALOT alike… all of my friends pulled for unx, but my dad went to State so wearing a pastel blue was NEVER an option for me, but ragging on my friends was always a favorite past-time…. unfortunately…. they’ve been RIBBING ME for the past however the hell many. When I was in high school though (late 80’s) we were VERY competitive… Fire and Ice, so I was always able to hold my own in the athletics debates. I long for those days again, and after seeing what Lo and Ryan are capable of…. I can’t help but feel we’re ALMOST there. I can taste it!

TOB, I understand your line of reasoning. I disagree with it, but I do understand it. But losing a top-10 recruiting class is NOT the worst thing that could happen to State’s BB program.

  4. TOB4PREZ 03/04/2010 at 7:06 PM #

It may not be the “worst” Va, but it’s got to be in the top 3. Whereas having Sid coach them for one year (worst case scenario) and then blow out would give them the chance to at least become comfortable with the school and each other, and highly increase the odds of them staying for Sid’s successor. Personally, I think its a moot point as Sid WILL get the job done… he just needs the horses to do what he’s comfortable teaching. Our pro-sets are among the most difficult to defend of any that are run in the league, hell duke runs a TON of the same stuff we do, we just don’t have the guards capable of creating off the dribble… but that’s all about to change. I feel like I could’ve written a book with all these posts in this thread…. I’m done for the day (most of you are standing and clapping with this revelation).

Take care guys… and dammit ONE MORE YEAR of patience isn’t going to kill us when we’ve been waiting 20 already!

    Goodnight erry-body!

Fire and Ice are some of my childhood heroes I went to basketball camp at Cambell U. and those guys came in for the exhibition game at the end of camp. Simply amazing I was awestruck. Super guys hung around talked to all of us kids and I was able to proudly point at those guys and say that they played for the wolfpack.

NOT giving him next year to coach his top 10 recruiting class would be a certain DEATH PENALTY for our program for at least ANOTHER 4 or 5 years

These kinds of hyperbolic statements are ridiculous. There are just way too many factors to consider, but the primary one is the quality of the coach that is hired. The right coach will not take 4 or 5 years of “DEATH PENALTY” status. (Is that what you consider our current level of play, by the way?) Maybe if our next coach has zero college experience and a losing record in the YMCA league that will be the case. The goal is to hire someone with a better record than that. There are plenty such coaches out there. And don’t give me the “who would want to coach here?” crap, because there are a hundred coaches in DI ball that would give their left nut to coach in the ACC.

As for rooting for the team to lose, I doubt many people do that. I feel for the players and want them to be successful. I still sent in my Wolfpack Club dues (sometimes I wonder why I do). I still paid for the ESPN Full Court package ($79, for which I got to see two wins, so $39.50 per victory). I still watch and cheer and want them to win. I just don’t see it happening much. If you think you’re somehow a “purer” fan than the rest of us, well, get over yourself.

I asked for a list of those that would be interested…. given the two scenarios they’d be following, and I was left with “crickets chirping”… perhaps you’re still working on said list. In which case, I’ll check back later to see what you came up with, best of luck.
And as far being a “purer fan” than any of the rest of you… well, those were YOUR words. I’m merely ONE man with a strong opinion that you can’t handle…. so if anyone needs to “get over” anything… well, I think this is the point you might find a mirror handy.

Season No. 5 (to the tune of Mambo No. 5)

    One, two, three, four, five
Everybody into the Lowe car, c’mon let’s ride-
Head for the liquor store around the corner,
And drink to the departure of Degand and Horner.
And since we wanna get off the NIT bubble,
Gonna bring in recruits that’ll cause the ACC trouble,
Lift us up from the last-place rubble..

A little bit of Harrow at the point,
A little bit of Brown to liven the joint,
A little bit of Cothron we’re all set,
Hey has CJ Leslie committed yet?

Jump up and down, move the ball around,
Javi’s pass to Tracy on the glass,
A little less turnovers, Julius please,
Howell’s outta the tunnel’s what we need.
Wood, Sid and Monte come outta their trance,
First thing you know, we’re goin’ to the Dance.

    Clap your hand once,
    Clap your hands twice,
If it’s better than 10th place,
    Then we’re doing all right.
    Better talent, that’s the fix,
Bring ’em all back for Season No. 6…….

  9. WolfManJack 03/04/2010 at 8:00 PM #

Speaking Of Cothron is there any news?

“NOT giving him next year to coach his top 10 recruiting class would be a certain DEATH PENALTY for our program for at least ANOTHER 4 or 5 years”

You mean we aren’t already dead? Coulda fooled me…

I get the reasoning, but disagree with it. Nothing I can do about it but cheer the team on next year. I hope there is renewed energy in the program, but most importantly, bottom line is we must win. No more bottom of the standings finishes. That has to end and it has to end next year…period.

  11. VaWolf82 03/04/2010 at 8:23 PM #

I asked for a list of those that would be interested…. given the two scenarios they’d be following, and I was left with “crickets chirping”…

You can’t possibly be stupid enough to think that anyone here would have a list of coaches….or that there aren’t a ton of mid-major coaches that would love a chance at a major conference position.

I was a hopey/changey guy (not that — for Lowe), but now I would welcome him to go. I gave him the benefit that previous suck was the leftover bad eggs the past couple of years, but this team has shown the same quit, disinterest, and general suck the last few games (except WF, kinda). I could tolerate losing with “effort” but right now we just have more half-azzery from most of the players. I do not subscribe to us having a lack of talent. We have a lack of competent leadership on and off the floor.

However, we are State so we can not fire Lowe this year. If we fire Lowe now, first we will endure the headlines about our impatience, disrespect for heritage, and lunacy. Then Harrow and Brown will be released from their commitments, select uNX, and lead them to four straight NCs. THEN, every reporter/every color analyst/every weather cast will begin a glowing review of PastelU with the disbelieving tone that WE let those two players go while disrespecting one of our own.

You think it is bad with HWSNBN, just what till that sheetztorm hits.

Of course, giving him another year will bring them both here — where inexplicably they will not be able to hit the broadside of a barn (especially in RBC), Harrow’s feet will grow about a ft by ft and be a magnetic when he dribbles, and just let them get within two feet of an opponent and watch Hess and crew drool. But perhaps we will limp to the middle of the pack.

My fantasy is that Lowe puts his “Coach Search Committee” hat back on, finds a cushy job in the NBA, and facilitates a transition to a new regime — with Harrow and Brown on-board. Ain’t gonna happen but I have an hour commute daily and at my age the healthy daydreams don’t come as easily.

  14. pakmannfay 03/04/2010 at 9:36 PM #

Give him another year? Wake up guys. Fire Fowler, and send Lowe with him. Hire the right coach, who comes with head coaching experience, and a winning record, and we keep our recruits. Again don’t even compare any coach @ State to Sid. He has the worst winning percentage of them all. And for that we reward him another year. It must be nice to get paid big bucks to not do your job. Now that sounds like the ideal job. Keep up the good work Sid. You obviously have some fans that think you’re the greatest. Not me.

  15. HarrowOwnzU 03/04/2010 at 10:12 PM #

Cothron has been asked multiple times as to why he chose NCSU, his answer: Sidney Lowe. Harrow and Brown BOTH stated explicitly that if Lowe was not here next year, they wouldn’t be either. You can pontificate how it won’t happen, but you’ve already heard from the horses mouth that they will not be here if Lowe is gone. And we have a better chance of getting ice water in hell than we do landing Leslie if Lowe isn’t here.

  16. WolfManJack 03/04/2010 at 10:24 PM #

So LUKE is coming in and qualified? He could be the ONE with Harrow Brown and Possibly Leslie I would be a BIG believer that our team would be THE MAJOR CONTENDER.

Do not use the term haters again if you want your posts to be left up.

You have a history here and it is not good. Do not push the envelope if you want to post here.

VaWolf why don’t you tell me what it is that has occured that you can point to definitively as Lowe’s fault. Is it the 15+ WIDE OPEN shots a game that he draws up for the team that we miss? Is it the fact that he’s had us in position to win MULTIPLE games that we lost because the players didn’t execute properly because they were either not hustling or too young and inexperienced to be in the right place at the right time. Exactly what has Lowe done that makes you say “he’s a bad coach”? The only thing you have to point to is a W/L record, however, it’s completely ABSURD and intellectually dishonest to place complete blame on a coach without taking into consideration ANY other factor.

  19. WolfManJack 03/04/2010 at 10:33 PM #

^Harrrow I want to believe SSSSOOOOOOOOOO bad I just hope it happens but my blood pressure, cholesterol, asthma …. and EXPERIENCE have given me a DARK heart PLEASE PLEASE GIVE ME HOPE!!!!!

  20. VaWolf82 03/04/2010 at 10:34 PM #

I’m not interested in a witch hunt to assign blame. Lowe is responsible for the program and its results.

  21. WolfManJack 03/04/2010 at 10:40 PM #

I said earlier our ceiling is 5-6 next year with Harrow and Brown, could be exceptionally higher with Leslie and Cothron but will and can it HAPPEN and if so how long can we be at the TOP.

  22. HarrowOwnzU 03/04/2010 at 10:42 PM #

Sooooo let me get this right lol You’re not interested in a witchhunt to assign blame… but you want Lowe fired

  23. VaWolf82 03/04/2010 at 10:44 PM #

Please point out where I ever said that I wanted Lowe fired.

  24. HarrowOwnzU 03/04/2010 at 10:45 PM #

Oh so you think we should keep Lowe for next year?
