NC State might be the No. 11 seed in the ACC Tournament programs available at the Greensboro Coliseum, but for the second night in a row the Wolfpack certainly didn’t play the part. One night after upsetting No. 6 seed Clemson, NC State picked up another victory, picking off No. 3 seed Florida State 58-52 and earning a semi-final match up with No. 7 seed Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets knocked off No. 2 seed Maryland in the first game of the evening session, 69-64.

After committing 12 first half turnovers in an ugly first 20 minutes, the Wolfpack went to the locker room down three to the Seminoles, 25-28. In the second half, however, the Wolfpack turned it over just three times and outscored the ‘Noles by nine to pick up the six point victory.

Scott Wood put on a shooting display reminiscent of NC State’s trip to Florida State in January, a game in which Wood scored a career-high 31. On this night against the Noles, Wood poured in 18 points on 6 of 10 shooting. Two straight threes by Wood midway through the second half put NC State up by nine points and set the stage for the closing minutes.

Javi Gonzalez, who hurt his ankle against Clemson and was a game time decision against FSU, led NC State with 13 points, six assists, five rebounds and five steals. Tracy Smith, who suffered a hip injury in Friday night’s game, also finished with 13 points.

Gonzalez made the play of the night with two minutes remaining, stealing an entry pass before he fed Tracy Smith for a dunk which put NC State up 54-48.

Solomon Alabi led FSU with 13 points, nine rebounds and four blocks, but no other player scored in double figures.

Despite suffocating defense from Florida State for much of the night, the Wolfpack still managed to shoot 44 percent from the field and 46 percent from behind the arc, thanks mostly to Wood. State held the Seminoles to 38 percent shooting and Florida State shot just 3 of 18 from behind the arc. Go here for the full box score.

Sidney Lowe off the sh*t list. Georgia Tech is ripe for the taking tomorrow. How about an 11 v 12 matchup in the finals on Sunday?

A #11 vs. #12 final would be a great story. SportsCenter would have to be all over that.

We need to play somebody highly ranked, we suck against the middle of the pack.

Sid says Tracy hurt his hip early in the game. Smith is one tough hombre

Wow! I watched! We won! Pack wins! Pack wins! Pack wins!!!

But, Sid, that is one ugly tie, but keep winning and it’s ok!

My wife said Sid’s tie looks like her grandmother’s drapes!

The beauty of all of this – the experience our guys are gaining through this run. Wood, Howell, CJ…even Javi and Tracy. Setting us up for a dangerous team next year.

CS– I agree! Next year can be the beginning of getting this progam where it deserves to be

Are CJ Leslie and Luke Cothron at the tourney? Come on and join Wolfpack nation next year fellows.

I’ll bet GT didn’t even pack their white uni’s 🙂

Way to go, Pack !!! Great focus and perseverance.

Did you catch Horner at the end, directing Wood to dribble the clock out instead of going to the basket ? A little Senior Leadership there…

I’m as excited as you fellows, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves…again. We’ve been down this road too many times to make big happy proclamations.

We have a long way to go to being a top flight program. *IF* NC State can play all year the way they have in the last 6 games, we’ll all be happy.

If they play like they did the 7 games before that, we’ll all be here calling for the coach’s head, and going all woe-is-me.

  23. Sweet jumper 03/12/2010 at 11:58 PM #

Wood and Javi are co-players of the game on the Wolfpack Sports Network

  24. nav 03/12/2010 at 11:58 PM #

If the pack can keep their legs going there is no team left in the tourney that we can’t beat. Our Achilles Heels this year have been VT, UNC, and Maryland. We only lost to GT by 2 at GT and we beat Duke and Miami. Though I sure don’t want to play Duke again but if we did I would love for Duke to get the same treatment with Wood that we got with Reddick.

that was an amphibious win.. it looked like the attendance rivaled our home games. hope ticket sales are up tommorrow.
