According to Lee Fowler “The Wolfpack is on target for its preseason goals.” Is last place our target? Do we need a new AD? yes or no

There was a basketball game today? Darn I went to the movies and out to eat with my wife(UNC GRAD) had a great time. She doesn’t care for Royboy much.Well good -kept blood pressure down -relaxed – ate well-overall a good day. Basketball team -what I expected- a thirty-five year fan who is not going to let it make me upset anymore.I’m very pleased with JT coming on broad- will be a great help on D.this fall.
As for LEE his time is coming………………………………..

the thing about NCSU fans, we “NEVER GIVE UP!”

From http://sportscareers.about.com/od/careerpaths/a/ADprofile.htm – athletic director job profile.

“Athletic directors provide guidance and direction for a school’s sports program. ”

Does Fowlup do this for NCSU? If so I have personally yet to see it.

Lowe has not proved himself to be a respectable coach yet to me, but I can not hate the man. I still think Lowe is an upstanding individual and was a big part of our 83′ championship. As of February 13, 2010 I do not think he is a very good coach though. With that being said, we have the best recruiting class coming in next year since the Valvano era.

Why not FIRE Ol’ Lee NOW…get a new and competent AD in place to get established for 1 year. The new AD tells Lowe its a make or break year for him in year 5 of Lowe’s tenure. NO striving for a slight improvement with a 6-10 ACC record, its either you make the NCAA tournament, or Coach Lowe is showed the door. With a year’s time the NEW AD should have had time to put a plan together on how to reasonably hire a new coach and reach out to candidates who might be interested. If done correctly, this will be much more efficient than when Lee Fowler was left in charge of the hire.

Reasonable solution? Really not a fan of Sidney Lowe the coach, but w/ Lee making the hiring decision I just don’t see us coming up with a solution that is anything more than slightly marginally better.

well, look at it this way. We did not fall below expectations for where were predicted to finish in the ACC.

Thats a great attitude tuckerdorm. We should always strive to underachieve or at best achieve the bare minimum.

[quote]so all the talk of firing and no response of suggestions (names)? i’ve already given one (brad stevens at butler). here’s another, bob bolen at mountain state university. both successful coaches to date. can anyone else come up with any names? how about another mention, bruce pearl? the closer we get to being firm in opinion, the more it becomes a reality.[/qoute]

tried to start a thread earlier where I talked about making overtures to Patino through back channels, but my thread was closed by the mods. Guess we can’t discuss coaching changes and or speculate who we should get. Must be some new rule.

for all those who feel like they are on edge and simply don’t feel up to living with another season with sidtastic. alot have said that our incoming recruits cannot make too big of an impact along with sid coaching. i’d say after watching the highlights from harrow and lorenzo that they can. i had hopes that degand would be the man b/c of his speed. still, we need him on the floor b/c of his penetrating ability despite not being a solid shooter. with these additions, each one of them brings the ability to somewhat be the pg and penetrate at the same time. it enables a type of lineup that may be more dependable than what we’re used to.. a smaller one. ballhandling has been our weak spot forever it seems. with these two ball handlers on the way… i surely feel they are going to make an impact. cothron looks good, certainly glad to get another nice forward.. however, i think if painter improves.. he has a definite higher upside. now if sidney lands leslie, which will be tough.. this kid is in the starting lineup. he looks solid. javi will be around, mays will also be there.. so when harrow does have his freshman mistakes… there will be two veteran role players there to spell him. to a lesser degree, brown has a little experience under his belt so he won’t be quite as green.

“It is obvious that recruiting is all that matters in college sports as is evident in the season that UNC is having. Coaching is 90 % getting talent and 10% coaching it.”

Uhhh not to poo poo on your post too much there USSR, but UNC is an example of the exact opposite of what you’ve just stated this year. Old Roy is an absolutely fantastic recruiter, and when he gets all the best players and can get his ‘run um to death’ style of play going, he’s considered one of the best ‘coaches’ in the country.

The reality is, he has a team FULL of 5 star McDonald’s All Americans that just don’t fit his normal style of play and he obviously isn’t willing to change it to accommodate those players. Instead he’s chosen to keep the same style and WTNY to bring in more 5 star talent that CAN run his one and only style of play.

Interestingly enough, the die hard UNC fans/alumni that work with me have been saying lately, ‘Roy is a fantastic recruiter but only an average level coach.’

    Just food for thought.

  13. Wolfy__79 02/14/2010 at 2:02 AM #

i’ve never thought roy is/was all that great of a coach. i can’t stand the way they play basketball, but they won two in five? but didn’t he recruit this cast of players. so that argues itself. and i hope he does continue to WTNY. see where its gotten us. both of the teams 05,09 we beatable. all teams had to do was slow them down. play half court. but instead, they fell into running up and down the courts mindlessly until the lead stretched into double digits. most recently that happened today, but i’m referring to the ncaa’s. recruiting is a critical part of college hoops, i’m not going on any percentages. it’s easy to see we have a lack of talent currently at NCSU. a higher caliber player might reveal a little more of sid’s ability. please don’t take this the wrong way. i’m just as disappointed as anyone. perhaps we’ve dumbed unc-ch down to WTNY. haha, maybe we do win. unc-ch will lose more than they win for the rest of the season. maybe we’ll get to matchup with them again in the acc tourney and end their eight game win streak over us. i hate the tarheel media. one of the good things about living in the state of nc right now. today was pitiful, all the announcer bs about their 100th year. but i guess that’s our fault for sucking for a qtr century.. WTNY

  14. Wolfy__79 02/14/2010 at 2:04 AM #

if roy was really such a good coach, why didn’t he do anything at kansas. they to are poised this year for their 2nd in 5 years. i would love to see that. but, IMO, if he was really all that good he would have won there. wasn’t it gary williams that handed him that successful program.. then matt doherty hands him a recruiting dream for his style of play. screw those basterds… off with his head.

By the way, the WTNY folks aren’t considering the distinct possibility that Tracy will leave after this season. I know, I know, he’s not ready, blah blah blah. Tell that to Josh Powell and Cedric Simmons.

thank god there is not a 13th place in the acc

  18. Rochester 02/14/2010 at 7:20 AM #

Two years ago this team tied a school record with 9 consecutive losses. We currently have lost 4 in a row, 6 if you don’t include the exhibition game against NC Central. We have 5 ACC games left, plus one game in the ACCT. Sid could easily match or break the school record for consecutive losses. Does that mean he’s had the misfortune to coach two of the three least talented rosters in the entire history of NC State basketball? Or does that just show that he’s a sh*tty coach?

    My money’s on “sh*tty coach.”

And if Tracy leaves early, forget about making the NCAAT next year. So what does that make the barometer for 2011 success? Ninth place?

  19. NJpack 02/14/2010 at 7:38 AM #

Our guards have the basketball version of post traumatic stress disorder. One possession near the end of the 1st half says it all – the shot clock was winding down, and we were still passing it around the outside of the arc because every guard was AFRAID to take the shot. Len Elmore even commented to that point. Once again, if our guys just watched the replay of the game, they could learn more from the announcers than the coaching staff.

Very good points raised about Tracy Smith – he probably needs another year, but he would most likely be picked in the 2nd round. Let’s see, 2nd round NBA contract vs. another losing season with Lowe? I know what I would bet on.

P.S. – if Harrow and Brown want to come here specifically for Lowe, should we be worried about their mental state?

  20. Rochester 02/14/2010 at 8:13 AM #

Where’s Scott Drew (Baylor) on the coaching target list? The guy’s a winner and he’s got a personality.

By the way, please don’t post dream list of assistant coaches. We need someone who has done this before. No more learning on the job. (Or not learning, as the case may be.)

Lon Kruger was on my top-five list a couple of years ago. He’s doing very well at UNLV.

How would you guys feel about going after Andy Kennedy @ Ole Miss. He seems to have a backbone. He also doesnt mind getting in a kids face when he is playing like crap. I bet he doesnt whistle and clap for motivation either. Oh well, just a thought.

“alot have said that our incoming recruits cannot make too big of an impact along with sid coaching. i’d say after watching the highlights from harrow and lorenzo that they can.”

Exact same thing was argued last year and the year before that, and the year before that, etc. And look where we are — DFL.

“i’m in favor of sid coaching 2010-11. i think he, personally, is on the right track.”

Do you actually watch the basketball games? Do you read the morning newspaper and see where your beloved Wolfpack is currently positioned? DFL. This after getting “his guys” into the program.

This is a trainreck. Come to terms with it.

“By the way, the WTNY folks aren’t considering the distinct possibility that Tracy will leave after this season. I know, I know, he’s not ready, blah blah blah. Tell that to Josh Powell and Cedric Simmons.”

Tracy could choose to jump early, but that would just be a terrible decision. And I’m not only saying that because we would be screwed (again) without him. He’s 6’8″ with no jump shot. If he were to call Josh and Ced I bet they would tell him the same thing. Just look at either of their NBA careers and that will provide all the caution one would need. And at least Ced got a top 15 pick pay day. No way Tracy would go that high…if at all.
