“that game was a suck fest like every other one of states games….they sucked on day one when he (sid) got here, they suck now. they are going to suck next year, it`ll only look better cuz he is riding on talent that he`ll do his damdest to under utilize. a 2 point loss sucks as must as a 20 point loss. 2-7 in conference play sucks too. this whole athletics program is one big suck fest. i dont know how i even got sucked into watching/caring about this game today. hell i even had a free ticket, but thank GOD i was smart enough not to go. everyone just needs to quit sending money/time on this bull @#%@. end of story.”

It’s now final: Florida State 71, Miami 65.

    Misery loves company.

How ’bout a jumpin’ hip bump? And at least a nod to the press the kids put on?

The second worst coach in the ACC managed to outlast the very worst coach. You do understand that retaining Lowe is essentially hoping he grows into a “poor man’s Paul Hewitt,” right?

  5. BassPacker 02/06/2010 at 11:28 PM #

Degand didn’t play because he had a badly bruised leg. He is listed as day to day. Disappointing loss times two. I had written the team off at about the 8 minute mark, then they sucked me back in with some hope only to see them fail.

I am so at a loss for NC State athletics. “FAIL” = NCSU Athletics

Why is it so hard for people to understand that this team does not have the talent to have a better record than 4-12? Just because we get close in some games and win a few games does not mean we suddenly have 30 minute a game ACC players. We have the worst talent in the ACC…Coach K, John Wooden, Jesus Christ, or any other coach will not compete in the ACC with this team. There were 2 options when Zo Brown did not qualify.

    1. Fire Lowe immediately
    2. Let Lowe develop players so we can win next year when we actually have a chance.

Guys, we have waited almost 20 years for a legit back court and some of you want to throw it away so we can bring in a new coach and hopefully improve in 5 years. Forget that…I want to win next year and our only chance to win is with Zo Brown and Ryan Harrow.

BJD95, we have no idea where Lowe ranks among ACC coaches. I will agree that Hewitt is the worst coach in the ACC b/c he has 2 lottery picks inside and a NBA guard and beat a team without a single NBA player by 2 points at home. If you want to say Smith is a NBA player, then that’s fine, but Smith is well below Favors and Lawal.

Stop worrying so much about every loss. We’re going to win 2 more games, finish 4-12 and move on to next year. Like it or not…those are the cards we were dealt this season.

“we have no idea where Lowe ranks among ACC coaches.”

I think it’s pretty safe to say that he is somewhere between 10th and last. But that’s only if you use actual results to measure him by as opposed to some fantasyland BS that tells you that everything is fine just go back to sleep…and send your money.

It’s time to wake up Wolfpack nation. Look at the abysmal state of your football and basketball teams. Is this what you want to claim as your own? The excuse making for consistent last place finishes helps keep a last place team at the bottom. There are no excuses, we lost the game, we are in last place, again.

BassPacker- FAIL = FUCILITES AIN’T IT LEE

It’s a little thing called talent and coaching you stupid;%#$!!!!!
The day Foulup is fired needs to be a holiday at NCSTATE forever!
Also it will be the the only day they will get another dime from me!!!
The economy is not the only reason NCSTATE’S money for Athletics is falling.

I honestly believe I will never see a major NCAA Championship at NCSU as long as I live-I’M ONLY 49YRS OLD!

I honestly feel sad for the people on this site that are so myopic to believe that a team that plays hard, but lacks high grade talent (this years team fellas) is reason enough to fire Lowe. Just because you have a tendency to hate the acronym “WTNY” doesn’t mean it isn’t apropos.

Coach Lowe might not be the next great coach in the ACC, but you really won’t know until next year. Take off your manties and get over it. I’m sorry that for the last 25 year it’s sucked to be a state fan (no really, I’m one too). Just know this…in basketball, the more talented team GENERALLY wins. Which is why we lose most games and win some.

  11. Pack Mentality 02/07/2010 at 1:33 AM #

This idea that somehow it doesn’t reflect on Lowe’s coaching ability because he doesn’t have the talent to compete is the most absurd argument you can make. In case you don’t realize it, acquisition of talent onto your team is probably the single most important duty that a coach and his staff have. If you don’t have the talent in year 4, guess what, it’s YOUR team, not just a team that you happen to coach. The talent gap is YOUR fault. If your talent is so bad that you are always bringing up the rear of the conference it means you suck as a coach.

  12. VaWolf82 02/07/2010 at 7:32 AM #

the most absurd argument you can make.

The list of absurd excuses generated by State fans is rather large. I would hate to be given the job of rounding all of them up so that we could vote on them to determine the most absurd.

This team cannot shoot the basketball, period. Take away the inside and put a defender on Wood and you have a 90% chance of winning the game. Our players routinely miss wide open shots and the other team never has to defend to the whole court – we make it easy.

I’m not saying there aren’t coaching problems, but if we could shoot the basketball we’d have 3 or 4 more wins. If your players can’t put the ball in the basket off wide open shots there’s very little a coach can do at that point. BTW – I’m not just talking 3’s.

I know someone is going to point to good games or streaks that Horner, Javi and others have had, but nobody on this team can score consistantly except TS. The team runs sets that provide wide open shots and the players continue to miss. We will not start winning games until we can shoot the basketball. What will it take to get that accomplished – better talent, new coach, sports phsycholgist, all three – who the hell knows? I for one do not.

“How ’bout a jumpin’ hip bump? And at least a nod to the press the kids put on?”

With my two inch vertical, we’d have to time it extremely well.

FWIW, I’m fine with firing **** for any number of reasons. Fire him for NOT acquiring more talent in four years. Works for me.

I honestly feel sad for people on this site that are so myopic to believe fours years of stinking is not enough to judge a coach. To believe that things will change when they have not for four years. To use the term WTNY when it is obvious for four years what will happen.

I won’t argue Sidney Lowe here, but when people argue that Paul Hewitt is the worst coach in the ACC, it certainly speaks to the intelligence of fans. Look at his record: 5 out of 9 NCAA tourney’s. This year will be 6 of 10. The prior 6 years(under the “god” Bobby Cremins) GT went to ONE tourney. Paul took GT to the final game in 03-04. Now he had 2 poor years in a row, but that stuff happens when you lose 2 STUDS(Crit and Young) way before you should. You can blame him for not being prepared for 1 and done, but he’s done a good job at GT.

Rick said: “Outside of one game, do we really want Wood shooting?”

Rick, of all the posts that you’ve written that I disagree with, this has got to be in the top 3. He is our ONLY outside threat. The reason that he is blanketed is no one else can hit a shot. And, I don’t mean they miss it close…Horner shot an airball on a wide open 3 from the corner yesterday. Mays shot 2 or 3 wide open bricks. Ditto, Javi. CJW has regressed where I wouldn’t trust him shooting a wide open 3. Degand is the only other option and he’s hit or miss (no pun intended – it’s either a brick or he may make 1 in 4). I haven’t seen the box score on our 3 % yesterday, but I know it ain’t pretty. I mean, our outside shooters are terrible. Triadwolf is correct, we need some guys to hit shots. I don’t know if they are tensing up or what, but you ain’t going to win if you can’t hit shots. Right now, it’s TS down low or Scott if he’s hitting. But, there’s no such thing as anyone else hitting more than 2 in a row. Scott Wood needs to keep shooting, and I mean ALOT. When he hits, it should open up looks for the others. Brown and Harrow and Cothron (who is also a good shooter especially for a 4 man) will turn this team around. I also think CJL is coming. I think we’ll have 4 freshmen in our top 7 next year.

Folks it is a matter of talent. I believe that SID is doing the best he can with what he has

    Horner 3 stars
    Javi 3 stars
    Smith 4 stars
    Mays 3 stars
    Painter 4 stars
    Howell 4 stars
    Davis 1 stars
    Wood 3 stars

    GA TECH
    Peacock 4 stars
    Gani 5 stars
    Shup?? 5 stars
    Favors 5 stars
    Udofia 4 stars

    need I say more.

  19. ncsukyle 02/07/2010 at 9:32 AM #

So this goes along with nothing that’s been said recently in this thread but… when we’re down 2/3 with the ball and the clock running out, a la the GT game, who do we want taking that shot? I’m still with Javi cause I think about the Arizona game but wanted to get other opinions.

Well then my intelligence must be very suspect. Let me say it again: Paul Hewitt is THE worst coach in the ACC. He does less with more talent than anyone. His teams have no cohesion, there is no consistency, and the fans at GT know it. I do not know of a single GT fan that thinks the guy can coach. Can he recruit? Obviously. Can he coach? No. Just replay yesterday’s game and it will tell you all that you need to see re: Hewitt. He’s a terrible coach.

  21. wolfmanmat 02/07/2010 at 9:35 AM #

^he’s right. We aren’t talented. My question for the guys calling for Sids head: what is the alternative? I mean, who is out there that wants the NCSU job? It’s not that great of a job right now and hasn’t been for 20 years.

  22. JeremyH 02/07/2010 at 9:39 AM #

yea that’s why I said put Painter in with Smith and Howell. If we can’t shoot it in, at least we can try pounding inside to death.

  23. Wulfpack 02/07/2010 at 9:40 AM #

Sidney Lowe is directly responsible for recruiting the players on this team. He is also directly responsible for the 2-7 ACC record. You CANNOT disassociate the two.

At the beggining of the year, most everyone thought we’d suck. This is year four, and everyone was right — we do suck. That’s all on Sid. There is NOBODY ELSE TO BLAME.

I agree that he’s going to be here next year. I am not optimistic that things are going to turn for the better for us. There is simply no evidence of it on the floor. I sincerely hope that I am wrong. However, Sid has given me absolutely no reason for hope.

Anything less than an NCAA Tournament bid next year, then he better be canned. This is getting to be ridiculous. He is not earning his keep. We’re getting robbed. We’re turning into Prairie View A&M.

  24. wolfmanmat 02/07/2010 at 9:47 AM #

^if you are just referring to “in-game” coaching, then I don’t think he’s the best…I don’t agree that he’s the worst “in-game” in the ACC(see Oliver Pernell/Roy/I said it), but he’s not a great “in-game” coach. You can’t just call him a bad coach though, because part of coaching(a BIG part) is recruiting. 6 of 10 NCAAs and 1 Final Four over 10 years is impressive regardless of program.

  25. Dogbreath 02/07/2010 at 9:50 AM #

Shit, I wish we were Prairie View
