Roy Williams Kicks Presbyterian Fan Out of Dean Dome

During the second half, Deon Thompson was shooting free throws. The Smith Center was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. That’s when it happened. One of the Blue Hose faithful yelled something to the effect of “You’re gonna miss it, Deon.” Although it didn’t cause Thompson to miss the free throw, it did catch the ire of head coach Roy Williams.

This was an absolute joke. IF he said something vulgar, IF he said something obscene – he still has that right. If he yelled fire, then maybe we have something to discuss. I HOPE HE SUES!!!

Im not gonna sit here and defend Roy, BUT you are serving up worse case scenario from every vantage point. A. If you tell me that kid they escorted out wasnt drunk you are flat wrong. B. we didnt hear what he said, my guess is he did say something derogatory. C. I want a coach that will stand up for his players.

If the fan said something vulgar, maybe he should have been escorted out. However, those words come out at every basketball game and you don’t hear about it. If he was sloppy drunk, seems like some of the people around him would have called the security guards. No, Williams heard it and didn’t like it. It hurt his itty bitty feelings. He is just like I have always heard from people that have been around him when he isn’t in front of the media. He is an arrogant spoiled little j**k! The media just continues to present this “good ole boy” image which is nothing more than his WWF personality.

I think we should respond in kind when they visit Chapel HIll. Every fan that cheers when the Heels do something well should be escorted out of the building. That would actually be pretty funny. “We were just taking our cue from Roy.”

I’m going to pay a kid to dress up like the heckler from Happy Gilmore.

“You will not make this putt. Jack-Ass!”

I remember when I got kicked out of there years ago for standing too much, forgetting my Wall Street Journal and not wearing khakis. Still tramatized. My shoulder really hurts today.

I’ve gotta think this wasn’t the first thing that guy said all night. Even so, I hope they wear roy out about this.

Roy is just mad that his team sucks this year.

I was wrong in my prediction earlier – AG and JO didn’t buy Roy’s or the UNC SID’s stories on the radio this a.m. I like the SID’s approach of trying to paint this guy as a ranting drunk, clearly not the case. Pretty fun.

Big Lead jumps in with criticism — http://thebiglead.com/?p=31370

I always love it when/if you can ever get some national media to criticize the pansy blue.

A devastating heckler in last night’s UNC-Presbyterian game caused Roy Williams, a hardly imposing figure notorious for parting his hair in the middle, to be furious:

Deon Thompson went to the free throw line for two shots. Thompson drained the first. And as he went to shoot his second, a fan approximately 20 rows behind the North Carolina bench stood and yelled. “Hey Deon, don’t miss it!” Thompson didn’t.

Understandably, Williams had no choice but to react to the zingiest of zings, and turned around to find the culprit. Naturally, he summoned security and had the guy dragged out.

At sporting events, there are hecklers, thoughtful poets and cutting entrepreneurs. Screaming for someone to miss a free throw clearly fits the latter. Sadly, this story is no exaggeration.

We not only encourage, but implore Roy Williams to grow a piece of flesh that resembles a housing compound for balls.

    Pathetic, embarrassing and intensely insecure.

Love the title of this one: Roy freaks out over heckler, asks everyone else to calm down

The story doesn’t mention drunkeness or the use of profane language. Roy simply didn’t like him heckling UNC players and asked the police to throw him out.

This is to be expected in a corporate fascist police state. The ejected spectator is fortunate he wasn’t tazered, beaten or arrested.

My pop would say Roy is just showin’ his aise.

I can see the slogan now. “Dean Dome: heckler free since 2009.”

    or

“No Heckling. Offenders will be ejected, beat, and tazed.”

    Don’t taze me bro!

Some of you have suggested that maybe the heckler said something offensive that we don’t know about. Maybe he did, maybe he didn’t. But I saw on the news last night, they were interviewing Deon and asked him directly something to the effect of: “Did he say something offensive or just for you to miss the free throw?” Deon said he just yelled for him to miss the free throw.

Roy was over the line, IMO. Glad to see him and Carolina taking a black eye over this. He deserves it.

On today’s “Around the Horn” on ESPN, the remaining 3 contestants unanimously said that Roy’s actions were inappropriate.

    This story has legs.

Thanks for the link StateFans. Someone claiming to be the guy tossed out has commented.

I want to know how the guy got a ticket in the “friends and family” section. Did he buy it from a player or from a “representative” of a player or was it a gift? I seem to recall State being put on probation at the end of V’s reign for players selling “family” tickets and shoes. A prominent State player at the time told me that in the summer leagues in the triangle, The State, Dook and UNX players all talked about selling tickets and shoes, but we were punished.

  21. MrPlywood 12/14/2009 at 10:01 PM #

Just saw the video. Roy was reduced to talking to someone in the stands? Did he actually say “How about shuttin’ up? Yeah I’m talking to you?” That’s lame. The security doods were going beyond what was needed too, with the shirt pulling and the grabbing and the shoving.

And THEN to say that if he was on the playground he might have done it differently… oooooo, tough guy.

  22. theghost 12/15/2009 at 2:04 AM #

it would be a lifelong dream of mine to tangle with Roy on a playground. And I would need thousands of friends and family tickets.
