MAFPACK: Check out the last bungled punt play again and watch Graham. I posted this on the game thread. He just stops, stands there and watches with his hands on his helmet as the ball bounces around and ultimately rolls into the endzone. He didn’t even try to help clean up his mess. He literally doesn’t move other than to put his hands on his helmet. That in addition to him repeatedly quitting on routes (as does Bowens), tell me that he needs a serious attitude adjustment. But truthfully, that was my fear about him all along.

I would love nothing more than for him to prove me wrong and come back and play hard and be a leader. I just don’t see it happening. His return for a touchdown was the result of two fantastic blocks. But for those, he’s running into the pile like he does more times than not.

Please refer to TJ by his proper nickname (in our section at least) – Freeze. Dude literally stopped on every return all game except the TD. I’m sure that’s just a coincidence. Good ol Freeze.

the situation we are in now is exactly what I feared when he came on board – the inability to maximize his opportunity because of a dogged determination to only “do what we do,” results be damned.

Time to cut the D coordinator loose. For once on either offense or defense I would like to see us out scheme someone.

If TOB deosn’t make some kinda change. I am not going back in..Just going to stay at the RV and tailgate…Empty seats is all they will understand… In years past I have tried the email’s,met with Dr O,met with the Chairman of the BOT’s.Nothing but hot air..Empty seats and loss of revenue is the only thing that will get rid of Uncle Jed, and until he is gone nothing is going to change. If you cut the tail of a snake off it will grow back…The only way to kill it is to cut the head off.

What amazed me is how many times they ran that hitch/screen and turned inside for big yards. 8,10,12 times? The defender always overran the play.

Besides, I can’t imagine why (especially after teh 1st qter) we didn’t bang it out on the ground. Duke has one of the worst run defenses in the country and it would have kept the ball out of Duke’s hands.

Told friends on Sunday that would not have been so upset with performance if I truly believed we had inferior athletes. Had we lost on the last possession of game with duke player making great play then Ok. But I feel that this was a coaching desaster, not an over matched team.

OOOOO…OOOOOO…I’ve got it. Typically the guys who are defensive backs are so because they can’t catch very well. Let’s take all of our receivers (who can’t catch very well anyway) and make them DB’s. Current DB’s to the bench(or home) We’ll shift our RB’s to receivers as they can’t do any worse catching the ball. Let’s run protective passing schemes with extra back(s) for blocking (like Green Bay vs Minn if you saw it)and hit the 3 guys we send out. Wilson can be the guy to lean on for our running yards. Let’s fire the special teams coach (Do we have one?) and the defensive coordinator as a show of good faith to the Pack fans. Who’s with me!!!!

Unfortunately I do not see us winning 4 more games. We’ll do good to beat Md at home and God please let us win our last game. O’Brien is a good coach…I’ll start to pass some serious judgment next year. The rest of his staff I am having trouble with. Our opponents are eating us up with the short pass and run game yet we insist on throwng long balls only? Coordinators are looking very bad right now. TOB needs to make serious changes.

Next, I want to talk about this curse thing. I know the history of our basketball curse but I did not realize it spilled over to football. I am sure you all have friends that you have joked with about how it is a curse to be a Pack fan. Pack fans are the most mserable. I’m glad I have 3 kids to occupy my time now so that I did not get the opportunity to watch the miserable debacle Saturday.

Finally, I think we should all try prayer. Let’s all ask for forgiveness for whatever we or our school has done to warrant such a miserable fate to remain a sub-par football program. I know I am sorry. I apologize. I give. Can we please get better now?

I don’t believe that NCSU’s athletics are cursed. I do, however, believe that “mediocrity” is acceptable in our athletics dept. As long as the money flows in and there are “fannies” in the seats, nothing will change. As a lifelong state fan and graduate, I am tired of “waiting till….” when it comes to State athletics.

It’s The Curse of the Valvano. (Not to be confused with The Curse of the Bambino, though both are equally real and scary.)

I’ve said many times the SFN community should take up a collection to pay some spiritual-sort to perform an exorcism/seance/chicken-plucking to get rid of this thing.

Is it just me or has anyone noticed that RW in one and a half seasons has not called one audible??? We all know that he is intelligent enough to read the ‘D’ and make an audible but maybe the receivers are to dumb!!?? I see man coverage on guys like Graham or Spencer with no help over the top and they run a five yard route and drop the ball half the time. Against Duke there were a couple of times the safeties started walking up and I was thinking, wowww the slot guy will have his man beat deep….but what does he do– runs a 4 yard out and drops the pass!

  14. PRivey17 10/12/2009 at 2:22 PM #

Actually, I got a little feedback and decided that if this is going to be realistic there should be some Tar-Mart (or Wal-Hole) fans in there as well. Attempt #2:

I’m not sure that Russell Wilson has the authority to change the play at the line of scrimage. It would be interesting to pose that question to Coach O’Brien. Has anyone else noticed that there is never any presnap motion in our offense? (not that it matters, because our offense and defensive schemes are exremely vanilla)

  16. rtpack24 10/12/2009 at 2:34 PM #

No one ever goes in motion. RW never changes play that I can tell. TJ is usually fastest man on the field and we have run 0 reverses for him. No fake punts, no blocked punts. We are a very bland football team.

  17. pack44fan 10/12/2009 at 2:47 PM #

If we as fans know what’s coming on offense and defense before the play starts, then I’m sure any opposing coach does as well. I think the “skinny post” play has been ran at least 10 times the past 2 games. I always heard that the offense under Trestman was too complicated. I think we have done a “360” and are now too simplistic. I also wish the defensive coaches would at least try to “bump” the other wide receivers at the line of scrimage occasinally to at least slow down these 5 and 10 yard completions.

..”.if we win our next two games what will you say? If we beat UNC again this year what will you say?”

I’ll say “how freaking bad must BC and FSU be to allow us to beat them at their places”. I’ll say “geeez, UNC just blew a prime opportunity to put a huge hurting on us, they must be as bad or worse than we are”. Basically, what I’m saying here is that no matter what happens the rest of the season, there is still no excuse to lose AT HOME, BY 3 TD’s, TO FREAKING DUKE. I don’t care how much improved they are this year (and I do believe they are significantly improved). They might be better, but they are not as good as we made them look this past Saturday. The same way we made Wake look better than they really are. Is anyone really surprised that both Skinner and Lewis had career days against us? Is this really a riddle to anyone? I got news for you…most QB’s we face this year are going to have career days against our defense (secondary). SC’s QB must totally suck, or at least he did on that day…but then again he didn’t have the benefit of scouting gamefilm like subsequent opponents have. But, make no mistake…our only hope for any more wins this year is if we can outscore the opposition.

“Empty seats is all they will understand.”

Empty seats alone won’t do it. As long as the tickets for those empty seats have already been bought and paid for, boycotting the games themselves will not get the job done. In fact the powers that be would love that…they get their money but in return don’t have to worry about putting a quality product on the field/court. What needs to be done for them to “understand” is for the cashflow into the university, athletics dept., and the WPC to slow down to a trickle. If this happens, and the seats are empty because the tickets weren’t purchased, only then might they get the picture, and I’m not sure they will even then.

“Besides, I can’t imagine why (especially after teh 1st qter) we didn’t bang it out on the ground. Duke has one of the worst run defenses in the country and it would have kept the ball out of Duke’s hands.”

Precisely what I was thinking during the game, as well as since the game. I don’t understand this at all. Baker had something like an 8.1 YPC avg. on Saturday. I realize that if we ran more that this 8.1 YPC avg. would likely not have remained as high, but I doubt it would have dropped to a point where would couldn’t have been successful on the ground, and at the same time controlling the tempo of the game and minimizing Duke’s possessions. I just don’t get it.

“I know the history of our basketball curse but I did not realize it spilled over to football. I am sure you all have friends that you have joked with about how it is a curse to be a Pack fan.”

The “curse” definitely applies to more than just basketball. Considering that the “curse” is something we’ve brought on ourselves, and continues to perpetuate itself because of ongoing decisions within the athletic dept., as well as the university as a whole, it becomes obvious that it should affect all sports, especially the revenue sports. In case you’re not getting my subtleties, the “curse” currently is personified by Lee Fowler. Before him it was Todd Turner. The choices to appoint various coaches, or to permit others to continue in their positions, is also contributory to the “curse”. An administration and athletic dept. that does not care about the quality of the athletics at NC State is the root cause of the “curse”.

The only other curse(s) is/are the ones that we as individuals have placed upon ourselves by choosing to become, and choosing to continue to be, fans of intercollegiate athletics at North Carolina State University. In principle, this should be an easy curse to rectify. In practice, however, its much more difficult which is why it is a curse in the first place.
