    BJD,
That is too absurd to be true.
It would require little head jed to actually do some work.

    Great post, 61Packer.

I have to laugh at TOB’s quote that Duke’s offense is sophisticated. It may be but they sure didn’t show it today. I saw the same 3-4 plays out of the same formation all game and we never adjusted. I lost count of how many times this play was run:

Duke would line up 2 receivers to the left and the inside receiver would occupy the safety. The outside receiver would run a slant behind that guy and our cushiony corners would give up a 7 yard reception, plus YAC. The funny thing is, I am watching the Iowa-Muchigan game and I saw Iowa line up in the same formation, and Michigan was in a defense that resembled our setup. But Michigan had a linebacker who was on the line of scrimmage run diagonally backwards after the snap to take away the slant.

Really I can’t fault the effort of the players today. But the lack of adjustments on the defensive side was pathetic. Also, not going for it on 4th down with 8 minutes to go and down by 2 scores was a poor tactical decision.

Don’t fire a coach, “Fire HWKBBALL”! We should never lose to Duke in football! That is just totally unacceptable losing to a bunch of Ivy League wannabees!

Oh, BTW HWKBBALL stands for “He Who Knows BasketBall”!!

Fire him for kicks, if not for cause!

  5. highstick 10/10/2009 at 10:09 PM #

Now, BJD, you know Lee would much prefer to work in a bait shop!

  6. VaWolf82 10/10/2009 at 10:32 PM #

I witnessed the defensive trifecta today:

    – No pressure on the QB
    – Receivers left wide open
    – Poor tackling

robzucc, I hope your not hanging your hat on the upcoming basketball season. I’m just saying I see a future in our football program and none in basketball. TOB was slow but steady at BC and I think your going to see the same here(but with a higher ceiling). I do agree that Fowler must go.

I sold my ticket to today’s game and watched it on my DVR. We stink in every facet — awful defense, awful special teams, dropped passes, stupid plays and most of all awful coaching. This is terrible football.

Imagine how bad we’d be without RW and TB. I actually feel bad for these guys.

Last year at Maryland when I watched them drive the length of the field in about a minute to win, I thought we should have fired Archer on the spot and not let him get on the bus home. Then Nate came back and the defense didn’t suck just enough to let us go on a run. Nate’s not coming back this year. There’s no NFL caliber player waiting to come in and fix the fundamental defensive problems that we have.

I’ve said it on the boards from the second we hired Archer. I don’t understand that hire. His results at Kentucky didn’t merit being hired. His results here don’t merit holding onto his job. It’s time to cut bait. I can call plays better than he can.

I also thought during the head coaching hire that we should get PJ. I’ve defended him (particularly after the Miami loss this year), but I still think he was the right choice and I still think we’d be much better off than we are now.

For all those who are saying that it takes time, I’ll admit that it does. At the same time, does anyone actually think that TOB started behind Cutcliff at Duke? Duke had NOTHING and Cutcliff built a team that just stomped us by 21 @ home today. Cutcliff > TOB.

Fire Lee Fowler now. It seems that we’re going to have to make tough decisions in both revenue sports soon. Heck, I actually feel better about basketball than football. Fowler needs to be as far away from our department as possible.

The most pitiful performance EVER by a Wolfpack football team.

No, getting beat by Furman in consecutive years was worse. Then we hired their coach and his name was Dick Sheridan……

Anyone who is paying attention realizes that this situation just isn’t working out with TOB. It seemed like a good fit but it simply isn’t. He has never faced the kind of questioning and pressure that he will face the rest of this miserable season. He definitely strikes me as the type who won’t react to criticism well. I think this thing is going to get incredibly ugly by the end of Nov.

Frankly I would be fine with us going to TOB quietly now to go ahead and work on a buyout. I really think we need to go find the next young thing as a head coach and try to get some enthusiasm into this dead program. There is a reason that BC was so happy to see TOB go and why they have taken the next step (2 division titles) once they dumped him onto us.

  11. NCSU84 10/10/2009 at 11:09 PM #

    For all you TOB haters:

    – Did we go to a bowl last year?

    – What is TOB’s record vs UNC?

    – Was TOB successful at BC?

And yet, people are now asking for his head – Amazing.

  12. RBCRowdy 10/10/2009 at 11:10 PM #

if you think its bad now, wait until they don’t make a bowl game. They wont win 4 out of 6 with 3 on the road.

  13. gtspack 10/10/2009 at 11:16 PM #

Thank you NCSU84, very well said!!!!!

  14. tunnelpainter 10/10/2009 at 11:19 PM #

Since graywolf mentioned help from a 1-AA team, maybe we should look at NDSU’s Mike Breske or Stephen F Austin’s David Gibbs for some defensive coordination.

  15. Par Shooter 10/10/2009 at 11:26 PM #

We could do a helluva lot worse than simply offering Cutcliffe a chance to move within the triangle. He has clearly made a lot more progress in Durham in less time that TOB has been marking here.

One specific thing that just baffles me is the saga of Justin Byers. He played 3 different positions tonight (field CB, boundary CB & safety) and he plays them all terribly. It’s as if they MUST play him and try to cycle him through different slots trying to hide him. Letting the punt hit him was just icing on the cake. He is small, slow, cannot tackle and cannot cover. Other than that he’s a pretty decent DB.

  16. Broccoman 10/11/2009 at 12:02 AM #

If TOB doesn’t deliver 8 wins next year, I think he should resign.

I’ll give him one year’s pass. This was the hotseat game to me.

His past record means he should get a chance to turn this around, but it’s time for results next year.

  17. turfpack 10/11/2009 at 12:10 AM #

WHAA! Basketball is bad, your kidding me right. This is not the team I saw in practice a couple months ago-WTF!
NCSU ATHLETICS – IT’S IN THE GAME-OF SUCKING!!! WHATEVER.

  18. PhilipRiversWannabe 10/11/2009 at 1:07 AM #

I’m not calling for O’Brien’s head just yet. Yeah we suck. Our offense started out great. And yes I know that we screwed ourselves over in the 2nd half. But if I want anyone’s head, it’s Mike Archer’s. Never in my life have I seen such poor tackling. Nor have I EVER seen such soft coverage. WTF?!? Yeah I know he runs a bend but dont break, but guess what it broke! We just started the Thad Lewis for Heisman campaign for God’s sake. Get rid of him and Justin Byers ASAP!

  19. Broccoman 10/11/2009 at 1:15 AM #

Archer’s head at a minimum must be gone at the end of this year. If that happens, TOB will get a pass. Anything after this year sucky from Archer- TOB must be held accountable. Disclipine without results as the same as buffoonery without results in my eyes.

“Agreed, we are like the Walmart of college athletic programs.
We make money but our product is pure crap and for some reason people keep buying it.”

Now that right there is just plain insulting….to Walmart.

gtspack and NCSU84, First of all gtspack I did not mean this Basketball
season I was talking about 2010. Before we throw one of our own under the bus, he stated from day one he wants to run. He could not do that with Herbs guys. Remember one thing if you remember anything, Sidney has
never coached at the College level before and thats all TOB knows.
Ok now to TOB, NCSU84 its not about the TOB haters, its about did
you or anyone think in their wildest dreams that first of all we would
ever play a defensive game like that? Yes I know we are not a fundlementally sound tackling team but, watching this team play
for the last 43 years I, have never seen a coach at STATE put a product like that on the field. That includes Tom Reid. All I know is what makes this incredible and I’m not trying to single you two out because I have heard the explanation from others of, we went to a bowl at least we beat UNC along with he was successful at BC. Yes, 8-4,9-3 and usually finishing behind two or three teams. It’s
not like he was winning the Big East and thats what we hired him for,
to challenge for the ACC Title and NC. Am I the only one who feels like Saturday was the worst day in Carter-Finley Wolfpack Football History?
With that being said, I think I’ll tell you the most embarrassing moment… With 3 plus minutes to go in the game, We have to watch
Duke take a Knee against us. You see, I didn’t mind after I knew Furman
was coached by Dick Sheridan and the akron game was 20-17 with Amato
at that time was starting to lose the team. That, seems to be Something I’m starting to see with TOB. Well, your going to have to include Duke now when you say at least we beat Carolina.

  22. whitefang 10/11/2009 at 6:53 AM #

Although I wasn’t there, Saturday sure as hell wasn’t the worse day in C-F footbal history. I was there when EZU tore our goal posts down, afterall.
Fortunately I was at UVa Saturday to see my kid. I thought they were bad and we were good, but I actually think they would beat us soundly at this point. WTF happened in 2 weeks? Hell at least we gave Wake a damn game.
In any case I do think TOB will figure this out. I am not ready to run him off by any means. But I do think the athletic dept. overall is going to feel the results of this in the pocket. Anyone who doesn’t think our basketball program is a disaster is delusional. All we had to hang our hat on was football, and that hat rack has crumbled for now. I am afraid the exodus I heard about from C-F will be mirrored by an exodus of money from the athletic coffers.

  23. Wulfpack 10/11/2009 at 7:46 AM #

I have never seen a Wolfpack team play that miserably, play that uninspired in front of a home crowd at CF. TOB must fire Archer. TOB must begin to win. Honeymoon’s over.

  24. GAWolf 10/11/2009 at 7:47 AM #

What happened in 2 weeks is that a great coach in Grobe outed our shitty defense and another great coach in Cutcliff did his job, watched film, and followed Grobe’s lead.

Cutcliff is very familiar with Archer, remember. They were in the SEC together. If I have time I’m going to try to find what they did against each other in the 2005 and 2006. I have a feeling I know what I’ll find.

    “For all you TOB haters:

Why is being unsatisfied with a coach’s performance mean you “hate” someone?

    But for a retort…
How many winning records does he have at NCSU?
How many bowl games has he won?
How many times has he lost to DUKE?
Why were BC fans so glad to see him leave?
