It might be time to let Ari Gold buy out the NC State Athletic Department.

You're fired.

“Do not over look that fact that THIS Duke team gave VT problems last week”

Does the fact that Duke can make a turnaround in a few years and we cannot not even register?

  2. Wulfpack 10/10/2009 at 9:16 PM #

You mean this Duke team that lost to Richmond. Stop the excuses. Just stop it.

  3. Rick 10/10/2009 at 9:17 PM #

“If not, then our window for contention pretty much slams shut, and we can forget about a special revenue sports season for the next 10-20 years.”

    IMO that window is closed.

Here is what I keep thinking about. Right now we have LTRs and big donors keeping this program afloat. When those LTRs are paid off and people finally get sick of this and the big donors pass who will be there to keep donating? NCSU is losing its young fanbase by the droves.

You really need to trust your eyes, as well. State looked BAD for 3 quarters against Pitt, and for almost the entire way against Wake and Duke. I cetainly believe that I can tell the difference between a good opponent making you LOOK bad, and just being bad.

In week one, I saw the former. Last 3 weeks? Definitely the latter, only.

  5. Mike 10/10/2009 at 9:19 PM #

    Plain and simple –
    1. Duke was faster
    2. Duke was stronger
    3. Duke was smarter
    4. Duke was better coached

I might be willing to accept those 4 statements from some other teams, but no way (except #3) should that be said of Duke.

  6. Wufpacker 10/10/2009 at 9:20 PM #

NCSU84 – Please do not be offended, as I am not directing this comment at you personally, but I am damn sick and tired of losing to teams that we have no business losing to (and this goes for all sports, not just football) and then someone making the excuse that the team we just lost to is not as bad as we think they are, or as bad as they usually are, or whatever.

Maybe if Duke got every break and barely won this might fly, probably not, but maybe. But we just got our asses handed to us at home, by 3 TD’s, by Duke.

No way to spin that, I’m afraid.

I have seen high school teams not make the stupid mistakes we made today. I could have completed 80% of my passes today too against our zone. We made no adjustments, and Lewis proved he could beat us in our zone. We did nothing different to change it. Absolutely pathetic.

  8. Rick 10/10/2009 at 9:23 PM #

I do not even know that much about football but I do know there are some serious problems with our team and coaching staff and the talent level is not the only problem. I have read time after time that when we get better talent we will be OK. I am not buying it.

  9. BJD95 10/10/2009 at 9:25 PM #

I certainly regret hopping on the LTR train. One of the dumbest decisions I ever made. And I agree that our irrelevance and incompetence in all sports is alienating the younger element of our fanbase. I give it another year because it’s really the only one under TOB that’s been off track. One more season like this, and it’s clearly a trend.

    gtspack Says:
October 10th, 2009 at 8:28 pm Lets run TOB off like Herb Sendek, that was a real good move. In case nobody has noticed we are predicted to finish last in basketball in the ACC this year. Herb is the savior @ ASU. If you put Nate in the LB core, those short passes across the middle are interceptions. We have some great players who are OFS and a great recruiting class coming in. OH yea, we have nothing to look forward to in basketball.

I’m not going to waste alot of time on this but, for your info Sid
will be getting his players next year. The kind of players he wants,
the running type. As far as Nate Irving, I don’t know what game you
were watching but, there were passes all over the field that not even
the great Nate could have stopped. I hope for the sake of this university your not in power to make any kind of influencial decisions
about our Atheletics. Mike Archer was a failure at
Kentucky and for TOB not to be able to choose better than that should
raise a major RED FLAG. The day I heard the Defensive Coaching Staff
was not following TOB here from BC was the first day I startd to worry.
And, I hate to worry. I quess I better start getting use to worrying.

Remember this one? “SFN’s take: TOB > Paul Johnson”?

    Whoops.

  12. wbnation 10/10/2009 at 9:34 PM #

is reggie herring looking for a Defensive coaching position?

  13. Alpha Wolf 10/10/2009 at 9:35 PM #

Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue.

  14. GAWolf 10/10/2009 at 9:36 PM #

I lobbied for PJ, too. But that’s only because I personally watched him bring a Georgia Southern team into Athens and almost beat a UGA team that was supposedly top 10 in the country. A guy named Adrien Peterson, the one who plays for the Bears, was his running back and they ran it right up Georgia’s throats.

I’m still confident that TOB can create a winner here… he just has a lot more work to do than I realized before today. Our D has been outed and the rest of the year will be more of the same. If Archer can’t make adjustments and figure out some way to just slow the other team down, we won’t win another game.

Frankly, I think Archer needs to go. He’s done enough damage.

  15. Wulfpack 10/10/2009 at 9:36 PM #

That’s a big whoops. I am starting to really like PJ. I love the way he gets in his team’s face ON THE FIELD.

TOB is being WAY too passive for my liking these days. I honestly am beginning to question whether or not he is really in it. Where’s the fire?

I did see some of that against USC where he directed it at the refs for those bogus missed calls. Time to get on the players, young or not. This type of play is unacceptable.

  16. Rick 10/10/2009 at 9:39 PM #

“I’m still confident that TOB can create a winner here… he just has a lot more work to do than I realized before today”

Some of the work he has to do is because of his own incompetence.

  17. Wufpacker 10/10/2009 at 9:45 PM #

^ TOB might have some faults, and does deserve some of the blame (probably most of it since he’s the head guy) for the current situation overall, but incompetent is one word I don’t think can be used to describe him.

  18. BJD95 10/10/2009 at 9:50 PM #

He is doing a bad job THIS SEASON. He’ll have next year to fix things and get this program back on track. If he doesn’t, then he’ll retire sooner rather than later. And we will hire the cheapest guy we can find and insist that all he really needs is time. Maybe we can find another buffoon alum or semi-alum. That way we can add “one of us!” to the mix. Some rubes will always buy that one, as we’ve learned.

  19. Rick 10/10/2009 at 9:50 PM #

I am sorry but incompetence is the right word for the first coach to lose to Duke at home in 25 years.

  20. MattN 10/10/2009 at 9:51 PM #

This is absolutely 100% inexcusable. Someone on the coaching staff MUST lose their job for this.

I’m not kidding. Someone has to pay the price for losing to Duke.

  21. Rick 10/10/2009 at 9:52 PM #

“And we will hire the cheapest guy we can find and insist that all he really needs is time”

Agreed, we are like the Walmart of college athletic programs.
We make money but our product is pure crap and for some reason people keep buying it.

  22. msapack 10/10/2009 at 9:53 PM #

To be fair, Lewis didn’t play that badly. There were at least three drops so his percentage should have been 86%.

  23. BJD95 10/10/2009 at 9:58 PM #

That’s a damn fine analogy, Rick. To make it sting even worse – Carolina has the Wal Mart fans, we have the Wal Mart athletic department.

  24. 61Packer 10/10/2009 at 9:59 PM #

This LTR seatholder started to leave the game tonight when we fell behind 42-28, but stayed on to see if we could screw it up even more, which amazingly we did. Football hasn’t reached basketball’s depths yet, but we could be heading in that direction soon if someone doesn’t stop the bleeding.

I like Tom O’Brien as our head football coach, and I do think that eventually he’ll get this program turned around and going in the right direction. I don’t feel the same way about Sidney Lowe as our head basketball coach; I don’t think he’ll ever get our program back to a respectable level.

But because we’ve been down for so long, however, I’m afraid that we’ve reached the point that we can no longer allow any more time for “rebuilding” our two major sports. State fans have had to deal with an incompetent athletic administration for 20 years or more, which has resulted in our two major sports programs tanking. With the core fan base’s patience all but gone, I think a complete housecleaning may soon be the only thing that can save us from two more decades of this crap.

I’d like to see a sweep from the top, including Mr. Fowler and our basketball coaches, and notice should be served to the football staff that we’ve got to do better soon or they’re next. No more 7-year deals. In an era when the ACC overall is reaching new depths in football AND basketball, we simply can’t allow ourselves to be bad when everyone else is mediocre, and we certainly can’t allow ourselves to be very bad when everyone else is simply bad.

We’ve been playing “catch-up” in this league for too long. Tonight’s game was a perfect example of what happens to you when you’re always playing catch-up.

Here’s a challenge to the SFN community – who will be the first to create a quality photoshop of LF as a Wal Mart greeter? I’ll make sure you get credit when we put it on the front page!
