We are just going to turn the The Live Blog into the post-game entry for two reasons: (1) I can’t emotionally deal with putting together a post game entry and (2) BJD’s comments in the live blog and the comments from the community are fantastic (and often times hilarious). You might as well scroll through them.

Can one really describe the magnitude of any beating when the homers on the Wolfpack radio broadcast say, “Be glad you don’t have to watch this”? (as reported on Pack Pride’s message boards during the game on Saturday)

From ACCNow

Boston College coach Frank Spaziani is piling on the points against his old buddy, Tom O’Brien.

On fourth-and-goal from the 6-yard line, Dave Shinskie passed to Billy Flutie for a touchdown to stretch Boston College’s lead to 52-20 with 6:22 remaining. Eagles running back Montel Harris, who’s rushed for school records of 264 yards and five touchdowns, has been taken out of the game with the win safely in hand.

N.C. State hadn’t given up more than 50 points in a game since Oct. 28, 2000, in a 58-14 loss to Florida State in former coach Chuck Amato’s first season.

3:32 – The radio version of this Live Blogging will be pretty damned uninsightful. You been warned.

3:33 – One thought that I’ve been having all day is that we are fortunate to be playing this game on the road. The home fans are quite anxious (and rightfully so). A road game in a non-threatening venue takes alot of pressure off.

3:37 – Three and out for the Pack into the wind. Ruh roh.

3:40 – I hate Mack Brown, but I’m just cheering for this game to end. I’d much rather see USC face the SEC champ for the MNC, though.

3:41 – Wow, BC forced to punt. Hope we manage not to muff this one.

3:43 – Lots of excitement from the radio crew for a 3-yard catch. Thanks for getting my hopes up, Gary. Yeesh.

3:49 – 7-0 BC. Long 2 play drive. That’s more like it, Pack.

3:51 – Look on the bright side – at least we didn’t have to see it!

3:52 – Radio broadcast missed the kickoff. Good Lord. Can you say “bush league?”

3:54 – ABC graciously showing the hand shaking and ass patting after OU/Texas. Bastards. It was a shitty game. Move on, and let us watch OUR shitty game.

3:56 – I think Mack Brown almost gave Colt McCoy a tongue kiss, before settling for a neck caress and hug. Wilson scores on a sneak, game tied at 7. Maybe we’ll get to see the second half. Seriously, when have you EVER seen post-game circle jerks be televised over live scheduled games? ABC really thinks this is compelling viewing.

4:01 – Smith falls down in coverage, 60-yard TD from Shinskie. Everybody gets to be Peyton Manning for a day against State. Words can’t express how badly we suck. It was the first play viewers in the HOME CITY got to see on television, despite the noon gfame having been over for 8 minutes (plus 4 minutes of kneel downs and timeouts).

4:08 – 3rd and 1. Watch us not pick it up, then punt like morons.

4:10 – Just like I called it. So freaking predictable and pathetic.

4:16 – BC doesn’t throw downfield, and thus is forced to punt.

4:19 – Glad to see Baker being used in the passing game.

4:20 – RW gets away with an awful passing decision – should have been an easy pick.

4:22 – 4th and 2 from the 22. Easy call to go for it.

4:23 – It was an easy call, but still surprised we went for it. First down, Pack.

4:25 – I would go for it here, too. But we won’t.

4:26 – Remember this gutless decision when we’re down 28-10 at the half. I expect this will be the turning point of the game.

4:33 – Wow, Morgan with a well-timed hit breaks up a pass. There’s a first time for everything.

4:34 – State’s most effective 3rd and long defense – the blatant drop.

4:37 – Wilson makes his first really good play of the game. 1st and 10 inside the 20. Nice duck by Spencer to avoid concussion redux.

4:40 – Another stupid field goal. Very, very frustrating.

4:45 – Eagles driving against more very soft defense.

4:47 – 21-13, BC. Tailback walks into the end zone. 3 minutes left for the Wolfpack to answer. It’s critical to do so, as BC gets the ball first in the second half.

4:53 – Well, at least BC shouldn’t get the ball back with time to score.

4:55 – BC’s blitz gets picked up, but still nobody is open. Pitiful.

4:57 – Wilson overthrow is picked, BC does have enough time to score after all. Awful stuff from the awful Pack, Act III.

4:59 – 3rd and 10, BC runs up the middle. And picks up TWENTY.

5:01 – Another drop by an Eagle wideout negates a TD. Pack living on borrowed time. And barely living.

5:06 – No way was BC set before the clock kill. But no flag, and the field goal is…good. 24-13 is your halftime score. I’m pretty disgusted, and second half updates might be a bit less regular (I also have a headache).

5:31 – Third and long, no coverage or pressure by the Pack. Lather, rinse, repeat. This season is over, folks. We’re just playing out the string at this point.

5:34 – Third and four is converted easily, for some variety.

5:38 – 2nd and goal from 10 (after our first Willie Young sighting), BC runs up the middle untouched for six. Today, we aren’t even getting into position to miss tackles. We just stand around holding our nads. 31-13. Glad we got those field goals back when this was a semi-competitive game.

5:50 – 38-13 now. Yes, it was possible to play worse than we did against Duke. I may pop in with a random insult here or there, but this ends the regular live blogging. Go take a walk or something.

6:02 – (By LRM) I’m gonna be really pissed if all those BC fans were right about TOB. (Sorry BJD, I couldn’t resist)

Hey, I’m just as pissed as everyone. Don’t go to the game, not sure I will for that matter. Fact is the seats are paid for wether you show or not. Point was only people it hurts the wallet is the vendors in the stadium which are mainly church and civic groups.

  2. drhammondo 10/17/2009 at 6:39 PM #

If Mike Archer is still our DC by the end of this week, I will most likely have a pair of tickets for sale in Sec. 215 if anyone is interested. I really cannot take watching this team anymore!

  3. PackBacker001 10/17/2009 at 6:42 PM #

It’d be nice if our receivers could actually hang onto one, if only to keep the clock running and end this nightmare.

  4. old13 10/17/2009 at 6:42 PM #

Forget boycotting games. The only way to get the administration to listen is to stop making $$$ contributions to ANYTHING NCSU – WPC, Alumni Association, Engineering College, Annual Fund, etc. (AND WRITE LETTERS!)

  5. papackman 10/17/2009 at 6:43 PM #

How much do we pay TOB and company $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ who’s the sucker in this deal…..NCSU again. This should display of play should really help recruiting!!!!!!!

  6. tuckerdorm1983 10/17/2009 at 6:52 PM #

look, last year we may have gotten ahead of ourselves. RW carried the team. However, teams learned to defend his running. It doesn’t help that this year our defense has more holes in it than a 100 pounds of swiss cheese. We may be the worst team in the ACC this year. With all that said TOB knows how to build a team and he will do it. Chuck the chest left our program in shambles. TOB will produce. He is a known quantity. He knows what to do. Give him time. He arrives late in his first year and gets in little recruiting. Second year he brings in some players and they red shirt. In his third year his recruiting class is very strong. One step back this season, but three steps forward.

  7. Wulfpack 10/17/2009 at 7:00 PM #

One step back this season? Judging by who’s feet, Mini Me?

TOB is getting his ass handed to him in a way he never has before. Your preaching patience. That’s fine. But TOB won’t hang around to see the progress if this keeps up. This is some bad football he’s putting on the field and he knows it.

  8. StateFans 10/17/2009 at 7:13 PM #

Patience guys. Just ‘wait til next year’! You’ll see that after another year of highway robbery by Uncle Jed that the entire culture of the Athletics Department will change. It is all about continuity with coaches and patience. Just wait til next year. You’ll see.

  9. EdMar 10/17/2009 at 7:15 PM #

It was so bad our local radio station quit carrying the game and started the NASCAR pre race coverage.

What did TOB said after the game?

I wonder who TOB talks to during the game? A real estate agent? A travel agent?. Maybe his retirement financial advisor?

I also mentally checked out from this team. I bet bye will beat us next week.

  10. TOBtime 10/17/2009 at 7:20 PM #

Tuckerdorm, I could agree with you if there was ANY fundamental football being played. The ability of this defense to even find the field is beginning to amaze me. The gel that held this team together during the last month of last year is obviously gone. At some point there has to be accountability for our pathetic showing. I hate it for TOB and can’t say I saw this year coming. I guess I’ll have to go back to Pack92.

  11. PapaJohn 10/17/2009 at 7:21 PM #

Where’s all the people that were saying, “this isn’t so bad, we’ve seen worse, they’ll turn it around” last week????
    This was pathetic!!

Just a few thoughts off the top of my head:

    1) Montel Harris had 264 yards rushing with 5 td’s today.

    2) UVa is 2-0 in the ACC

    3) 78% of those polled on the front blog page actually thought BC would be held to 39 points or less today. Yes, I was one of the other 22%

Two comments I read here that I totally agree with:

    1) TOB is the best coach were are going to have available to us for a very long time.

    2) NCSU . . . the new Duke of ACC football

Don’t expect any miracles the rest of this season. Be content with any win we get from here onward.

There is something really screwed up to have taken this big of a step backwards from LAST YEAR, a year where we were very average.

I’ve been a reasonable TOB fan up to now, but now that I’ve moved 2 hrs from Raleigh, I’m going to be very tempted to just save that $1000 a year 2 home LTRs cost me. I haven’t made my payment for this year and I keep getting the reminders. I’m tempted to send in a note saying

“When this program starts performing, my checkbook will start performing.”

  17. WolftownVA81 10/17/2009 at 7:54 PM #

Something drastic needs to happen to change the direction of this team. Defense and special teams continue to stand out as particularly poor in my opinion (thought the offense was flat all day today as well). I like TOB, but time is running out for him. We were making all the same mistakes as the last several weeks.

I’ve already quit giving NCSU any $ and have written a few letters and emails. All that’s left is to emotially disconnect if things don’t change. Today we turned the TV channel in the third quarter to watch real football (battle of the Techs). Guess we’ll just have to wean ourselves from dependency (or blind loyalty). My only hope is that the interim Chancellor will step in and fire Jed as step 1 (I will contribute to his buyout if it’s a question of cash.)

This is just a down right shame. The NCSU family deserves better than this from its athletics. The question I have to ask myself is: was two years of enjoyment while I attended NCSU from 1979-1981 worth the subsequent years of disappointment and pain?

  18. WolftownVA81 10/17/2009 at 8:00 PM #

Another thought occurred to me. If we are a performanced based football program, does that apply to the coaches as well? I think we were definately out coached (again) today. Who will accept responsibility for was we saw on the field?

  19. ADVENTUROO 10/17/2009 at 8:03 PM #

A UNX Fan quipped that BYE or IDLE or NO GAME SCHEDULED was a 4 point favourite this weekend over UNX.

Based on what I saw today, I would say that next week, our BYE will be favoured by at least a full touchdown…

I can NOT believe how we have performed over the past three weeks.

TOB is a VERY smart individual and coach. I will have to defer to his wisdom and expertice….If he does NOT know what is wrong, he needs to find out. If he does not know how to fix it, he needs to come up with a solution.

I began planning a much needed Christmas vacation today as we certainly will NOT be going to a bowl game.

Perhaps we need to give our receivers a resin bag so they can hold onto the ball.

Perhaps we need to teach our DL how to RUSH and TACKLE

Perhaps we need to teach our OL how to BLOCK and CONTROL the opponent’s DL on running and passing plays…

Perhaps we need to finish off that fifth of Crown Royal that we been saving for that “special” moment….because, after three weeks, the only thing special will be some coaching personnel changes.

Seriously, TOB should be able to make SOME changes by year end. It makes no sense for folks to call his radio show and shout “Pack your bags and get out of town…” That is TOTALLY crass and stupid. It just gives the MMS, whose UNX Grads are salavating to write ANYTHING about ANYBODY but UNX.

Let’s as Jimmy V. said, have our 24 hours of mourning….then get on with the season. Monday Morning QBing from here AIN’T going to change what TOB does, the weather, or the stock market….so ….

BLOG ON….if it makes you feel better.

I will keep my pledges and also attend the remainder of the games…

We continue to move backwards. Disappointment has turned to discouragement. Pitiful D again this week. How did we get to where we can’t stop anyone and can’t score much either?
The division was/is wide open. Shame we are just watching.

  21. wolfpack95 10/17/2009 at 8:55 PM #

    We HAVE become Iowa State.
Who cares about the rest of the season b/c the football team certainly doesn’t.

I wonder if we will win the ineptitude award for worst performance by a BCS school in FB and BB? Right on track…

Thanks Pack for messing the bed once again. Change the sheets, put archers house up for sale, and have fun running hills in practice. BOHICA Heels!!!!!

I agree with what others have stated. The foundation of our athletic program begins with the AD. Uncle Jed has served his useful life and the time has come for a change. With all of the head coaching selections Jed has presided over, none have worked out that well. I am not ready to give up on TOB or Syd, but if things do not work out, we need an AD in place who can make the right decision. Having said that, I realize we have an interim chancellor, and an interim chancellor will not likely fire an AD. There is too much riding on the AD decision and a smart interim chancellor would leave that selection to the next person. So for now, we must accept what we have.
