NC State head coach Tom O’Brien announced today that redshirt junior safety Javon Walker will have to take a medical redshirt because of persistent knee injuries.
“Javon is out and his career is over,” said O’Brien following his Monday press conference. “He’s going to have knee surgery and will take a medical. He met with the doctors… he could have helped us a lot. It’s tough for him, but it’s the right choice.”
Walker made four starts as a redshirt freshman in 2007, totaling 46 tackles and two pass breakups before injuring his knee in the game against Miami. He would miss the rest of the season was sidelined again in 2008 after needing another.
The latest setback will result in his third sugery in two seasons.
He will be placed on medical hardship and continue to pursue his degree at NC State.
The official loss of Walker only makes the Wolfpack younger on the depth chart in the secondary. This is tough news for any kid. God bless him.
