NC State Football Gets A Big Commitment (Updated 9:45am)

NC State received verbal commitments from Chapel Hill’s Rob Crisp and Pete Singer tonight.

Crisp is a 6’8”, 280 lb OT from Chapel Hill High School who is ranked as the state of North Carolina’s top prospect and one of the top 100 players in the country. His offer list was larger than 30 different schools and his ranking with offers from almost everyone, including UNC-CH, Michigan, Georgia, Clemson, Maryland and South Carolina.

Crisp is an NC State fan who evidently comes from a very good family structure. He will be a fantastic addition to Coach O’Brien’s growing stable of stud offensive line recruits over the last two seasons.

SFN was told two weeks ago that the Wolfpack staff felt good about Crisp…and, that it wouldn’t be beyond the realm of possibility to land commitments from ‘two or three’ other Top 200 recruits before the summer camp season. Evidently the staff would like to kick off the recruiting season with with highly touted core of a class on which to build. State is expected to have approximately 20 scholarships to give this season.

Safeties??? Why you guys have to bring up safeties???

Well…there goes a good nights sleep for the next couple of nights.

    Safeties. Shit. Thanks.

^ You must have been a WR. 😉

Ten Four, Alpha. I don’t walk like a freakin’ human ? mark from baseball.

Never alligator armed a line drive either.

A psych prof once stated to our class, ” The human mind cannot recall pain.”

I spoke up. ” You never ran a 7 yard slant.”

Watching the South Florida game last year, I wanted to see Pierson play QB since he would be fast enough to run away from the Bulls’ DL and throw it away. Anyone else was likely to die back there!

  5. TOBtime 04/08/2009 at 3:10 PM #

I got speed for you on 2 different counts-old and modern. Golden Richards and TIm Dwight. Both could absolutely leave everybody else on the field in their wake. Both could also be brought down with one arm.
Pierson is fast but his big strength to me was he would knock you into next week if he got the chance. He seemed to live for those wide open high speed sideline collisions. He wasn’t normally the guy going backwards.
Cowdog, don’t hold it against us. Us little guys had to play somewhere!

Alpha, that either says a lot about your Grandma, or TOB’s staff. Hell, maybe both, my Grandma could kick my ass until the day she died.

Personally, I think it is a great, smart move. The kid can play if you have watched any of his video’s, and probably has a great football mind. Paired with an OL for a brother, he has the chance to further his knowledge base…and I personally think Offensive linemen are the most cerebral guys on the field outside the QB.

Singer probably has more potential that many are giving him credit for…..sounds like he is the perfect fit in the Pack.

Of course TOBtime, but ya coulda chosen say… bowling. 😉

Confession here. I’m obviously akin’ to wide outs. Hence the post about our receivers up further. I’ll take up their torch anytime. Specially Spencer.

You don’t know just how good he really is because of the drops of what I call the “big fly.”

If the sports psych works for the balls he has too much time for…watch out.

Oh, confession. When I was recruited, the Northern schools wanted me as a s-s-s-safety.
The Southern as a wide out.

Hah! That was an easy call.

Good corners will mess with your passing game.
Good safeties will mess with your GAME PLAN.

Coaches can account for fronts and backers, but you cannot account for the safety. You either get lucky and pick him up on a blitz or hope like hell he doesn’t rearrange a face plate or two on your best open field guys. (before they get there)

And I don’t really differentiate between SS or FS. Sharks I tell ya!

I hope this signing is a clear sign that last year’s domination in-state by the Bad Guys was a fluke, although I have to say, this guy was a homer if he grew up in a household with C-F long-term seat rights holders…

Lets hope this lucky connection to the top player in the state opens some doors to some players who might not be so favorably disposed towards us…

    I’m excited about Bishop.

“I love me some Wolfpack D-men that hit so hard you can hear them in section 30.”
    `
“In the good old days” I sat in Section 21 Row K. You could hear the grunting down on the field when somebody got hit really hard. The ultimate result was a snot bubble. That’s Adrian Wilson quality hits.

Ohhhh we haven’t let that stop us from missing on guys before.

^^^Some people you just can’t reach.

(Not you Noah…yet I have pondered if it was possible before…)

The story about Crisp and Singer reminds me of Bubba and Forrest Gump meeting Lt. Dan in Nam for the first time….Are you two brothers?

I think it’s absolutely “luverly” that TOB is stealing the Chapel Hill kids right out from under the Chief’s nose!

I’d a never thought I’d be an alumnus of a football school instead of a basketball school!

My inbox has been inundated by company’s selling Carowhine crap apparel the last two days. Even saw a driving range advertising “Carolina Golfbags” this afternoon.

    VOMIT!

How good was the white safety from a two years ago at BC that TOB recruited?

All-ACC for a couple of years IIRC.

ANd UNC loses another recruit. Hadley arrested for sleeping with a 14 year old. N&O today.

  15. choppack1 04/09/2009 at 8:43 AM #

Looking through my Winston Salem paper today and there was no info on the Crisp and Singer commits. Not shocking that they didn’t say anything about it. I’ve come to expect good state recruiting news to have a delay in reporting or be ignored all together.

  16. tractor57 04/09/2009 at 8:46 AM #

I trust TOB to target talent and the proper “attitude”.
He has proven over a number of years he can take talent that may fly under the media radar but can grow with work – and will do the work. A strong football program is now a given.

Hardest hit I ever saw by a safety was a number of years ago when Jesse Campbell leveled a Clemson back. I was 6 rows up in the stands and almost got some of the slobber . Other thing I can think that would have made that hit better was if it was a baby blue clad back instead of an orange clad one.

The W-S Journal usually has good pieces about State in their paper. They’re more like a hometown paper than the News & Disturber, that’s for sure!

    effectively, we GAINED a recruit–for at least one game a year. . . 🙂

Newspapers, because of their delivery system, usually stay out of the recruiting scene. They might do roundups from time-to-time if they need to fill a spot…but that’s not what they’re good at.

If you want a white safety who hits like a sledgehammer, wait until you see Brandon Bishop

Good lord, just watched his senior season highlight vid off google. That first hit was absolutely bone crushing… wow.
