NC State Football Gets A Big Commitment (Updated 9:45am)

NC State received verbal commitments from Chapel Hill’s Rob Crisp and Pete Singer tonight.

Crisp is a 6’8”, 280 lb OT from Chapel Hill High School who is ranked as the state of North Carolina’s top prospect and one of the top 100 players in the country. His offer list was larger than 30 different schools and his ranking with offers from almost everyone, including UNC-CH, Michigan, Georgia, Clemson, Maryland and South Carolina.

Crisp is an NC State fan who evidently comes from a very good family structure. He will be a fantastic addition to Coach O’Brien’s growing stable of stud offensive line recruits over the last two seasons.

SFN was told two weeks ago that the Wolfpack staff felt good about Crisp…and, that it wouldn’t be beyond the realm of possibility to land commitments from ‘two or three’ other Top 200 recruits before the summer camp season. Evidently the staff would like to kick off the recruiting season with with highly touted core of a class on which to build. State is expected to have approximately 20 scholarships to give this season.

^ I agree with that post totally Noah. Isn’t Spencer going to be a Jr this year? He COULD be the big play guy in 2010. He’s shown a great ability to get open and separate from DBs, but his hands have been…uh…not good.

Who knows, maybe TJ Graham turns into that guy for us..

Football is an oasis in an athletic desert.

Great news. Way to go TOB & co.

    Welcome to the Pack!

    I LOVE what’s going on with football. . .

but, being a Pack fan is akin to being a beaten dog, and I’m always wincing and looking over my shoulder for that rolled-up newspaper to swat me in the ass.

This is HUGE! Crisp stated “he is a man of his word”. A life-long NC State fan. I have no worries about him wavering. In fact, I read that he and Singer may consider graduating early and enrolling in January.

I think this helps with Creecy – in a big way, as well as others.

Crisp gets it. He and Singer both want to really help in pulling guys into this class.

How good is Crisp? He was rated as best OL at an event last year (ahead of Xavier Nixon). He is the real deal!

Congratulations to TOB and staff…more importantly, congrats to Crisp and Singer. Those guys will have the honor and pleasure of playing for a top-10 coaching staff on what will be a top-10 team in the not so distant future. Welcome to the Wolfpack Family!

I think Spencer and Graham are good #2 and #3 receivers.

Bowens was sort of that guy. I am hopeful Jay Smith might turn into that guy. He showed a couple of flashes last year.

What I’d really love is someone like Haywood Jeffires. Michigan always seemed to have one of those guys. Good size, good speed and a penchant for timely big plays.

Mario Manningham, David Terrell, Braylon Edwards, and about 20 other guys over the last 15 years or so.

We’ve got game-changers everywhere else on offense. We need one at WR.

TJ is our X-Factor at receiver. He has the talent to be great.

The News and Observer reported that Crisp and Singer are brothers. Did I read that right? Are they like “best friend” brothers…or actual brothers?

  9. old13 04/08/2009 at 9:13 AM #

Thinkpack17, I read somewhere that Singer’s parents are Crisp’s guardians. Why? I have no idea. But Crisp is black and Singer is white – obviously not natural brothers.

Add to it Brandon Barnes’ younger bro in a future class. He is a life-long Pack fan too…

As for Brandon, if you have not seen him lately, he’s taken great advantage of the weight room. He’s cut like a greek statue now.

off topic but did anyone else get your “survey” from the WPC????? timing is very interesting as it asks what makes you want to give $ to the WPC, etc. then at the end it asks if you have any comments. perfect place to put your 2 cents in about Fowler. again, its probably no big deal, but the timing is very interesting

Crisp is adopted. Singer is the biological son of the adoptive parents.

I haven’t seen him, but the younger brother is supposed to be the better athlete of the two.

“Crisp is adopted. Singer is the biological son of the adoptive parents.”

Wow, that’s a great story. I would like to hear more about that.

Great news when we Wolfpackers needed it most! Welcome to two great student/athletes.
Just thinking . . . Is Dick Sheridan too old to serve several years as athletic director? I think he and O’Brien would easily work well together, plus he could be a guiding force for Lowe (btw Sheridan truly knows bball having coached high school champions in SC), or smart enough to make a new bball hire if needed. Sheridan as AD (if only for a couple of years to steady the ship)would certainly give us much needed leadership and credibility in our weak athletic department. Plus, I imagine we could get him fairly cheap compared to today’s market. To me, this would give the Wolfpack Nation a huge morale boost not to mention the desparately needed guidance that our coaches/teams/fans need.

What is up with the off topic – David Horning post? Did I miss something from another thread?

  17. JimValvano 04/08/2009 at 9:45 AM #

You know…Crisp is a two sport star.

He’s just higher rated for football.

and on another note…Sheridan wouldn’t be a bad choice as AD, but he is a little long in the tooth.

Noah and anti-smurf – good stuff.

For those that follow casually, but none-the-less follow football recruiting – have heard that this year’s NC high school is very good and that our staff is pretty amped about it and our chances.

When you combine this stuff w/ TOB’s statement that he was very excited about the 2009 (this year’s incoming freshman class) – well, let’s just say perhaps our staff didn’t go big in state last year for a reason.

A number of people have weighed in on the wide outs.

Owen Spencer continues to impress. From what I heard, a little sports psychology has been used on the problem with the ” big fly. ” It’s never been a hand issue as he continually caught the in and out patterns off his breaks. ( NO time to think.)

All-ACC for this guy. Speed and separation.

Jay Smith has made a big move and expect him to
battle Williams and Davis for the #2. And then there’s Graham….maybe.

Also heard that James Washington may be just too good to redshirt. Return man/RB/WO.

Hey, this ol’ wide out likes this bunch.

  20. JVM4PACK 04/08/2009 at 10:01 AM #

Two things I definitely have not completely given much thought about that were just mentioned…grooming Tom O’Brien for the AD job and/or bringing in Dick Sheridan. In the immediate forethought of those 2 possiblities, I think those are extremely good options. Of course I would not want to undercut the tenure of TOB at his current position due to the promise and growth our football program is showing.

  21. Alpha Wolf 04/08/2009 at 10:17 AM #

I haven’t seen him, but the younger brother [of Brandon Barnes] is supposed to be the better athlete of the two.

He is. And Brandon was good enough to draw all the big name schools.

  22. old13 04/08/2009 at 10:19 AM #

JVM4PACK, that would probably mean keeping Foulup as AD for a few more years – UNACCEPTABLE!

  23. wolfpackdawg 04/08/2009 at 10:21 AM #

He’s cut like a greek statue now.

    Aren’t we all?

Alpha: ever since I got a pure desk job, I’ve had to fight off looking like Peter Griffin. Fast food and a desk are no way to go through life.

  24. codebrown 04/08/2009 at 10:24 AM #

This guy is an absolute monster. TOB and Bible know talented OLs that’s for sure.

Not to be the anti-christ but are Crisp & Singer a 2 for 1 deal? How good is Singer? Not too many white safety’s around although he could switch positions…and not that it wouldn’t be worth it to get Crisp. 🙂
