I used to wish State would have played UW while I was in Wisconsin. Then, 10 minutes into the game when everyone was asleep, I’d be able to grab an arena full of wallets. 🙂

Of course, an errant 3 pointer would have probably ended up waking someone.

Northwestern will be a very tough match up (hell they all are for that matter)They return a very good point guard,3 other starters included an all big 10 2nd team forward.Their rpi was some 33 positions better than ours this past season.

I feel the whole ACC>Big Ten Challenge is getting a little stale. It would really be nice to rotate the challenge with other conf’s. I would love to see us get to play the Big East again though I am sure they would beat the heck out of us but at least all our teams could play. If we were playing them this year I could see us playing either G’town or Setan Hall. Maybe Cinci. We know the Big East hates the ACC so it would be fun.

If I had to bet on either the ACC winning next season’s ACC-Big Ten Challenge or the Wolfpack beating Northwestern, I’d go with State. I don’t see a single game where the ACC team will be the clear favorite this time, and the Big Ten could actually dominate the upcoming Challenge.

ACC basketball isn’t going away overnight, but if its current talent level of coaches doesn’t soon improve, this league’s era of dominance is soon going to be a thing of the past. We may never evolve into a football league, but we could sure degenerate into one.

Northwestern has a real Princeton coach. They are big and should have made the tourney this year.
I hear the uga big kid is heading to gt.
I also hear Monte is in indy trying to sign Rick Mount.I too fell for the Davis headline as well.
Any word of our other non league games? Please not another ooc 300 rpi.

  6. Wulfpack 04/22/2009 at 6:20 PM #

What era of dominance for the ACC?

This will be a discipline game for our young team. Northwestern can beat you if you beat yourself and don’t have anyone at the hoop to guard against the backdoor.

I agree with everything that 61Packer posted above and almost posted this exact thing earlier on. I don’t see the ACC winning next year. I actually think we have a chance to be one of the few wins for the league (Clemson at home being another and ironically Duke on the road). There are many toss up games and the Big 10 has more home games.

I also agree about the talent level of coaching in the ACC. Unless it improves, we’re going to have a harder and harder time attracting top flight talent as the Big East will get all of the ESPN hype. UVA just made a step in the right direction as Bennett is a good coach, but other programs need to show some improvement. When Purnell, Greenburg and Skinner are the B list coaches in the league, you know we’re in some trouble.

“I also hear Monte is in indy trying to sign Rick Mount”

When I was a teenager, I remember an SI cover with Rick the rocket Mount. Is this his son?

  9. Noah 04/23/2009 at 7:51 AM #

Back in very early Les Robinson days, Rick Mount’s son was transferring from Purdue and considered us briefly. I think he ended up at a lower-level school. I never heard from him again, so I’m assuming he wouldn’t have contributed much here.

^ Since we’re talking recruiting, 850 The Buzz’s Blog is reporting that John Wall cancelled a meeting with K yesterday (perhaps today?). Will probably reschedule this after his Miami Official (this weekend).

Does anyone here know if we are even still seriously recruiting John? I’ll completely understand if this question is ignored, as this epic tale of recruiting has many of us beyond weary (or utterly indifferent).

+1 for utterly indifferent… (One step beyond weary for me.)

Gee, gave this place a rest and you are still talking bout wall?

Andy Katz from ESPN has a write-up on Sidney and the history since Lowe took over and his thoughts about upcoming year.

    http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?entryID=4092120&name=katz_andy

  14. Noah 04/23/2009 at 3:05 PM #

Huh. So, Lowe fielded interest from NBA teams. Wow. That sounds…so familiar.

Clearly, Katz has an anti-Lowe bias and he just wants to hurt our recruiting. Why else would someone post that? I mean, other than it being completely true, of course…

  15. Thinkpack17 04/23/2009 at 3:27 PM #

^^I think I missed something…how would that hurt our recruiting?

  16. wufpup76 04/23/2009 at 3:37 PM #

Some interesting stuff going on hoops-wise …

In addition to the Katz article, ACC Now has an article on Sidney and the upcoming season:

    http://blogs.newsobserver.com/accnow/lowe-excited-about-fresh-start

Also of interest, Lawson and Ellington are gone – as is Stephen Curry. Don’t think Gerald Hendersen’s announced his intentions yet unless I missed it.

  17. Noah 04/23/2009 at 3:42 PM #

I think I missed something…how would that hurt our recruiting?

It wouldn’t…but everytime something gets posted (that’s true, mind you) about personnel moves, both potential and actuallized, that was the rationale for urinating on it (metaphorically speaking, of course). That and, “YOU MUST HAVE AN AGENDA!!!!!”

    Yeah. To share accurate information.

  18. Thinkpack17 04/23/2009 at 3:56 PM #

    ^^Ahh. Gotcha.

  19. TheCOWDOG 04/23/2009 at 4:55 PM #

Fielding phone calls, as the Katz article puts it, and expecting phone calls as Lowe puts it, is a bit different than pursuing.

I’m not going back to the former posts for semantics….but…

I can’t read any negative intention coming out of this piece by Katz.

In fact, it might have been written with up flavor.

I guess it’s how one approaches it, but dumb ass me tried a couple of angles and came out feeling a little better than luke warm.

Actually saw some bubbles starting to form from the bottom of the pot.

  20. frankiepack 04/23/2009 at 6:01 PM #

WTF another 6’1 guard? I don’t understand any of this ,the so called “phone calls”. Being excited now. What is sad that people are buying into this crap.

Interesting take on college basketball in the state for next season:

RTC’s take on the ACC / Big 10 challenge with our game vs. the Wildcats possibly being the deciding game:

I can’t read any negative intention coming out of this piece by Katz.

There isn’t any by Katz. It’s a total puff-piece. But it confirms part of the rumors that have been floating around.

  24. 61Packer 04/23/2009 at 7:14 PM #

Just read the rushthecourt.net posts mentioned above.

It’s become quite obvious in the past 3 years that the primary men’s college basketball teams in our state have been UNC, Duke, Wake Forest, and Davidson. Despite heavy personnel losses next season, those three ACC schools will be good again next season, and Davidson will also be good because Bob McKillop isn’t leaving. The only mention of Wolfpack basketball was that we’d probably lose the ACC-Big Ten Challenge game next December here vs Northwestern, a team that’s never made the NCAA men’s tourney.

Truly a game worthy of ESPN-U.

Sorry for all the links, but this one is too good not to link:

He he he! As if I needed more reasons to hate …

Be sure to check out the article RTC links too in the post as well … Color me shocked that he’s like that.
