Wolfpack recruits dominate Georgia All-State Team

Tip of the hat to Pack Pride for the following video of NC State commit, Ryan Harrow. Friends of mine in Georgia told me at the end of the season that Ryan Harrow was the best player in the State of Georgia not named Derrick Favors this past season.

Georgia’s All-State Basketball team has been announced and the first team includes three of NC State’s prized recruits over the next two years.

Really BJD?? even though Uk wasnt even a top 10 team for either player??? More than likley neither player has even walked on the campus or even interested in an SEC school before Cal took millions in UK. I would atleast hope that could keep some hope open….

“If Calipari leaves Memphis out in the cold, without a coach AND without a Point guard, good God he better never go back. He may end up on The First 48.”

    Ha! 🙂

    Good show … depressing though.

Noah, Nate Irving is pretty athletic himself. Him and Terrell Manning will be a formidable duo next year. I fully expect Nate to be the best linebacker in the ACC. Also count on Sterling Lucas, Dwayne Maddox, Ray Michel, Audie Cole, and William Beasley to be improved, maybe quite dramatically. That happens when you have a great coaching staff. Linebacker position is solid. What worries me is the secondary.

BTW, Aaron Curry of Wake Forest might go as high as #3 in the draft. I thought Nate was only a shade below or as good as Curry.

Wall listed interest in Kentucky at one point. I don’t imagine Cousins (or most of Memphis’ bigtime recruits) give Memphis the time of day if not for Calipari.

If they would go to C-USA to play for Calipari, why not one of the meccas of college basketball?

  5. Noah 03/30/2009 at 9:48 AM #

    Forget about Cousins and Wall.

Regarding the football defense, I think we’ll be okay with our starters in the secondary if we’re healthy.

Deandre Morgan and Dominique Ellis are two good corners. Javon Walker and Clem Johnson are two good safeties.

The question will be with the backups at cornerback. I think the true freshman from Florida will get a long look at one of those spots this fall. CJ Wilson will probably be the backup at the second spot.

The weak spot of the defense is on the DL, but even that isn’t a huge worry. The defense will be pretty good this year.

I like the football conversation leaking in here…I’m pretty excited about it. I’ve heard some good things.

Regarding basketball – it’s an indisputable fact that HWSBN had a better overall ACC record (including tournament appearances) than our current coach. Of course, where HWSBN lost a lot of support (permanently) – were in years 4 AND, especially 5.

To those of us who have made through the Robinson years and HWSBN years, still wear red, and to whom it matters that NC State wins – it’s a scary fact that the Lowe’s record is worse than a coach who divided the Wolfpack nation.

This doesn’t mean that Lowe can’t turn it around – I hope he does. Like I said, this season was his best in the key areas of preparation and execution.

    “Forget about Cousins and Wall.”

Agreed…I’m already over Wall. Unless you are shuttling in one and doners like Memphis or you are one piece away they can be more trouble than they are worth.

  8. Noah 03/30/2009 at 9:59 AM #

John Wall would be a program-changing recruit for Lowe. He’s talented enough that he could conceivably by Lowe enough time to get over the hump.

I just don’t believe he is even thinking about coming here. I don’t think he wants to be a savior. I think he wants to win a national title and go pro…so he’s going to follow Calipari.

DeMarcus Cousins, as I mentioned earlier, never even visited NC State.

  9. Noah 03/30/2009 at 10:01 AM #

If you want to be on the lookout for some good news, look for a news story on Michael Lemon getting his felony assault charge dropped to a misdemeanor.

If he gets it reduced, he’ll be here in the fall. And I think he’d make an immediate impact as a pass rusher.

If he doesn’t, he’ll have to be play somewhere else.

It will be nice if State could just get some guys that LOOK like basketball players. Big Ben described as a ‘throwback’ player- Slow, white kid that fights hard but has limited ability, decent on the boards and has a mean hook shot if you give him 10 seconds to set it up. Costner, The Big Lazy, enough said. Furgie-Horner, please. Fells at least is built like a college athlete and when he was good he was very good but clearly never was able to get his head around the college game.

I watch the DII championship game on Saturday and for the life of me can’t figure out why these two teams have better athletes than NC State.

Sid if nothing else works just recruit some athletes instead of throwbacks and big lazies.

  12. Thinkpack17 03/30/2009 at 10:04 AM #

Yeah John Wall IS a monster, and he will definately buy Sid some more time. But what he does is come in and gobble up valuable experience we need to be giving to Javi and Mays. Then he leaves and we are right back to square 1.

  13. UpstateSCWolfpack 03/30/2009 at 10:15 AM #

Well, I see Curry is going to Duke, and a Duke fan here at work says Wall was on campus last night. Not, sure that is anything to brag about, how many State games was he at this season? If he goes to Duke, I am going to be very disappointed. Go anywhere but Duke. They have been so late in courting him, it would just be sad if he went there. Maybe it would be good though if we miss out on Wall. I don’t think Lowe should even get another year, and if Wall shows up for his one-and-done college year, it could buy Lowe another season.

Speaking of Calimari and UK, this thread is pretty entertaining:

Some of the arguments contained within seem awfully familiar … Particularly the stuff about the local papers (going back to the Sutton days)

  15. Noah 03/30/2009 at 10:20 AM #

I keep waiting for one of these one-and-done guys to be the next Randy Livingston or Felipe Lopez.

  16. BJD95 03/30/2009 at 10:23 AM #

Wall would buy Lowe an extra year because we would almost certainly make the NCAAs with him. It would also turn around the atmosphere surrounding the program to be, you know, good. Better atmosphere and more exposure means better recruiting and program momentum. Ryan Harrow comes in for 2009-10, so I wouldn’t be at all concerned about hindering Mays’ development. He projects as a backup combo guard, regardless.

That said, I think there’s maybe a 1% chance that Wall comes here. But that’s definitely not a good or even neutral thing.

  17. Thinkpack17 03/30/2009 at 10:23 AM #

I don’t think Cal is going to UK. He is using them, just like he used us. To get a big, fat raise. Looks like the Spanish club will be going to taco bell instead of Spain this year.

  18. Thinkpack17 03/30/2009 at 10:25 AM #

Who is a back-up combo guard?

    BJD: Juilus Mays.

“It will be nice if State could just get some guys that LOOK like basketball players.”

Could it be the offseason S&C, or lack thereof?

  20. BladenWolf 03/30/2009 at 10:41 AM #

Sweet dunk from Harrow. Larry Harris is doing an outstanding job in Georgia.

Cousins should have come, but staying at home with GT was understandable.

Walls following Calipari around like a little puppy (Memphis or UK) is also understandable since he is a “one-and-done” prospect. Good luck in your future endeavors Mr. Wall.

I think with the right coaching Brown and Howell will help next year. If we could land a serviceable Juco big man, then we might crack the top 6 in the ACC.

    I like the positive thread.

  21. Thinkpack17 03/30/2009 at 10:42 AM #

    Sorry BJD…you lost me.

“It will be nice if State could just get some guys that LOOK like basketball players.”

Costner was just a pudgy bastard, I think genetics doomed him. McCauley “looked” like a b-ball player, I mean the white thing he can’t help. But he always showed up fit and ready, and he was indeed an athelete. He could run/jump with the best of them. He’s not that quick, but shit…he’s 6-10.

  22. Thinkpack17 03/30/2009 at 10:43 AM #

What’s going on with that kid Roscoe Davis?

I wonder about this too, and certainly hope that more guys can come in looking like Tracy Smith next year.

  24. choppack1 03/30/2009 at 11:27 AM #

OTOH – Pitt didn’t had 2 guys in their starting line-up who looked like they were no strangers to CiCi’s pizza buffet.

  25. MrPlywood 03/30/2009 at 11:29 AM #

Alpha, I have thought about that many times. Goal One for me would be to make sure that the team was in better shape than any other team out there. Superior endurance alone can win you some games.

Re: Calamari – I think he’s going. Evidently he told his Memphis team that UK is the “Notre Dame” of basketball, as in, prepping them for his leaving. Had he accepted the State job I think there would have been speculation about his leaving almost every year, and he would have dumped State in a heartbeat for UK . Can you imagine the uproar if he had Wall/Cousins in his back pocket to play for the Pack then he bolted with them?
