Wolfpack recruits dominate Georgia All-State Team

Tip of the hat to Pack Pride for the following video of NC State commit, Ryan Harrow. Friends of mine in Georgia told me at the end of the season that Ryan Harrow was the best player in the State of Georgia not named Derrick Favors this past season.

Georgia’s All-State Basketball team has been announced and the first team includes three of NC State’s prized recruits over the next two years.

    Cool … some good/refreshing news!

Now sit back and watch this thread detoriate into another debate and people calling each other morons and telling each other how they should think and what their opinions should be. Exciting stuff, really.

    We won’t let it deteriorate

Without reading too much into it I think this is a good sign, at least a little validation. Validation is good , right? Evidently alot of other people cocur that these are good players. Now lets see what Sid can do with em.

Sorry, meant to say concur not cocur. However, every time i click to edit my comment ends up as a bunch of mumbo jumbo.

Can some of you with a better memory than me talk about the last NC State players to make All-State 1st teams prior to coming to Raleigh? Thanks.

    fullmoon,

if you hit refresh AFTER you save your edit, it will appear normal.

Gonzalez, Ferguson, Fells, … I’m pretty sure Marquez Johnson was too. Past performance does not predict future success. I really am envious that you all can be positive. I was for a long long time but it’s gone. Our all-state guys will soon be lacing them up against consensus All-Americans coached by national championship winning hall of famers. I see no end to our two decade long mediocrity. I look forward to seeing these guys play and believe me, I am a cheerer not a booer but as I watch the games this weekend I can’t help but think that these teams would consistently beat us by 30 points. We are so far from being good.

Yeah, getting all-state players hasn’t really been the problem. The problem has been getting their focus to be “all-State” while they are in Raleigh. Hopefully that changes with this group.

This is a good crew coming in. Now let’s see how well that the coaching staff develops them.

Congrats to Harrow, Brown, & Howell…Hopefully they can breathe new life into our program…

Just heard a stat 10 of 20 starters in the Final Four are Srs and 8 more are Jrs…the foundation is being laid.

We are going to be good next year. Lowe proved that when he had a point guard. It’s like UNC without Lawson, they suck, but with him guys like Green look like all stars.. I am going to predict that Mays will win the starting job and our line up will look like this:
    1.Mays
    2.Brown
    3.Williams
    4.Howell
    5.Smith

with Woods, Horner, Gonzo, Degand & Thomas playing valuable minutes.

With Mays, Brown, & Smith carrying the scoring load.. We will finish in the top 6 in the ACC and sneak in the Tourney!

True enough. I’d love to see some real signs of being competitive and the Pack finishing in the top 6 of the league next year. That would be a very positive sign of improvement, and would at the very least result in bubble talk. Walk before you run.

Agree All State does not guarantee success at the next level.
But, it is great to see.
Also, with Harrow getting recognized as a junior is a very good sign. Maybe he can get the McDonalds tag next year.

What is the latest on Lo Brown qualifying?

  17. BSIE80 03/29/2009 at 7:54 PM #

So we have 2 scholarships left.
Any possibility of getting someone good through:
    Transfers
LOI releases from committments where coaching changes are made.

In other words, can we get anyone from Kentucky, VCU, Alabama, Virginia, etc….
I guess once all the coaching changes are put in place, we will see.

Any insider information on what Sid and company are looking at…

I still hope Leslie re-commits to State, don’t get me wrong….

But I feel like I am getting broken up with when I read his quotes recently. Making comments like “I was too young when I committed to State” and “I just want to see what else is out there” to “I was missing out on opportunities when I was committed”

    ahhhhhhhhhhh painful.

  19. BSIE80 03/29/2009 at 8:16 PM #

    com state, I agree.
We should push to get Luke C. or someone else that won’t hold us hostage.

  20. packalum44 03/29/2009 at 8:18 PM #

Congrats to these players for this recognition.

^BSIE80…Why would any of them want to come here and play for Lowe? Think about it from a player’s perspective.

For anyone who is on the fence or wants to give Lowe more time, I ask you this…Would you want to play for Lowe and why?

  21. BJD95 03/29/2009 at 8:22 PM #

Howell and Brown will get tons of playing time, and tons of responsibility from Day One. I hope these young men are ready for the challenge, and I certainly look forward to watching them play.

  22. BSIE80 03/29/2009 at 8:24 PM #

    Packalum44,

I am unsure why prospects select where they want to go to school other than, the location, the coach, the school, team mates, and any history they have growing up (school connections). Obviously, the best programs continue to be able to select who they want. The guys select these schools for the same reason as above.

I guess we need to ask L. Brown and/or Richard Howell why they want to play for coach Lowe…

  23. BSIE80 03/29/2009 at 8:31 PM #

Packalum44, playing time would be a good reason…

What is the latest on Lo Brown qualifying?

He hasn’t yet. His coach says that he expects him to. I interpret that as, “He’s in the ballpark.”

If he does not qualify and has to prep, I would say the chances of him re-upping with NC State are not as good as you would think.
