Didn’t watch the blues. A structural engineer assured me the roof wouldn’t cave in and I lost interest after hearing that. Couldn’t care less who won or lost it.

I think we will show up on Thursday. If Maryland wins, it will be because they earn it, not because we show up with our shorts around our ankles like last week.

BJD: I understand your frustration, but I think you know the answer you seek but just don’t want to face it. A State game of any kind is nowhere as important to ratings in this state as the Duke/Carolina game. Should they have done the same for us, too? Sure. Was there enough motivation for them to? Nah.

Question: WHEN Wall commits to Memphis, will the NCAA even look at a program in Conference USA that just picked up the top 3 recruits in the Country? That’s Playstation or Movie like lore right there. Things like that don’t “just happen.”

Or does it? Has that ever happened before? Cal is greasy.

  3. BJD95 03/08/2009 at 6:57 PM #

Yep, Wake is definitely your #2 seed. Let’s make things interesting next weekend.

John Calipari is one of the 5 best coaches in college basketball. It’s no surprise top recruits want to play for him.

  5. LKNpackfan 03/08/2009 at 7:35 PM #

He also has a history of violating recruiting rules.

i really don’t expect to see Wall come to state. as i saw in his interview earlier, he is only going to visit 2 more schools, one of them will definitely be Miami, and the other will not be an ACC school.

yes i realize that he lives in Raleigh and knows our program well, and who “wouldn’t pass up an all expenses paid trip” to coral gables….
but if he was genuinely interested in State, he would be probably want to show interest by making an official visit. i really don’t expect him to end up at Baylor either…

“I hope nobody is actually surprised that Cousins signed with Memphis. We’ve been telling you that he wasn’t coming here for months. Wall ain’t coming, either.”
    .
I don’t think Cousins signed with Memphis, just oralled. A technical matter that won’t make jack-shit difference when he does sign.

“Remember back in December, when the CBS national feed wouldn’t leave a fucking regular season women’s game to show the State/Florida broadcast, even in our local market? Hell, I believe they even went to a full round of commercials before jumping to our game about 6 minutes in.

But WRAL made sure it’s beloved blue-bellied viewers didn’t miss today’s tip, even when the CBS feed was showing the finale of a conference title game. Fuck you, WRAL.”
    .
Stong message to follow? 😉 and thanks for fully expressing my sentiments.

^If we show up against Maryland and do a good job of taking advantage of our advantages we have a great shot of getting them … and it would be sweet to send those suckers to the nit. Let’s also hope they call Dave Neal for more than one moving screen.

If we do actually get past Maryland, I really like our chances against Wake and then it could really get interesting.

ok… so here is my view of wall from the game.

he sat right in front of Dwon’s brother, and beside some other kid around his age.

at the half, Jason Smith sat beside him and talked to both him and Clifton for a good ten minutes. I saw Robert Griffin exchange words with him as well.

Wall was on his phone a lot, looked bored… funny, i was too most of the game.

Aaron Bruce was there, and said hello to him as well.

on the most stalker-ish note, and absolutely worthless observation I could give… he had a soda and popcorn.

I got bored on my phone watching it at my house.
Hopefully, the real game starts tonight.

Too much money involved in these things not to build relationships. It has been done for years. No big deal. Good business if you asked me.

Just win baby……. and throw all our values out the window in the process.

Despite all the ‘relationships’ most BCS athletic departments LOSE money. Seriously, even if education and ethics are no longer a university’s priority…. how is this ‘good business’?

I know you and I disagree on this BJD, but I am glad that “Cal” isn’t here.

The guy is undoubtedly dirty, yet he has the perfect situation in Memphis. A city that worships the school (sorta like Greenville for ECU); a huge corporate financial backer in FedEx; and little to no scrutiny on how he’s getting the job done.

And he got to toy with us to milk a pay raise out of FedEx, err … I mean Memphis. I also highly doubt that any Memphis rag neh journalist will do an in-depth, inflammatory look at Memphis basketball like a certain hometown paper did about a school in Raleigh.

A slimeball like that has found his nirvana … He has found a place where he can do whatever he wants and people worship him for it. Look the other way and just win baby.

I’m not a Kansas fan, but I am so glad that Memphis came *this* close to winning a national title and then poof – they lost. Karma still works … sometimes.

Went to the Duke-UNC game today with my (UNC senior) son, whose wheelchair got me as his helper. It was a memorable game in a great atmosphere. Incredible noise level. As I watched the Heels cut down the nets, I wondered how long–how long? it will be until we cut one down. We are so far away from such a moment that I found it almost depressing.

  12. wufpup76 03/08/2009 at 9:34 PM #

Davidson is probably NIT bound … They lost to Charleston (again) in the SOCON semis … I’d be surprised if they made it, anyway.

Funny play at the end of Niagra-Rider … Rider was up 3 with 4.something seconds left and tried to foul a Niagra player to send him to the line … Only the Rider player went right past him and missed the foul, and the Niagra player banked in 3 from about 30 feet to send the game to overtime. Awesome 🙂

I think it’s worth repeating: “First you lose close, then you win close, then you win big.”
I don’t think Bowden was talking about that process occurring during one season. It’s also worth considering before your lizzard brain points out that the spread wasn’t exactly close, that desperate measures at the end of a close game taken in an attempt to pull it out, distort the final score. Sending Jack McClinton to the free throw line every 10 seconds drove the final point spread up.
    .
The litmus test for my true feelings for the team’s progress is, how do I feel about our chances before the game starts, not how do I feel about the final result. While my thoughts about Degrand are more and more negative, Degand’s demise could be a blessing in disguise. We may think we know who should be playing and who isn’t cutting it, but rest assured the players who practice everyday know for sure.
    .
In the game day thread somebody lashed out at Javi with something like, “Do you really think you are the best shooter on this team?” Well, he may not be, but the boy has come a long way from when he was afraid to shoot to where he believes he can carry his team on his back. That young man is going to shock some people before he leaves NCSU. And if the BB program doesn’t want him, I’d bet cash money TOB would find a place for him. Somebody should a ask Sid did he need 10 or 15 minutes rest when HE was our point guard. Sid, give him a blow but get his ass back in the game.
    .
Who the hell is this “other” Smith? That young man sank two freebies as cool as could be. Somebody just may have to give up some play time in 09-10.
    .
One comment on the state of State: IMO it isn’t just a matter of whether of not, 3 years should be enough to give an indication whether or not Sid can coach or not. He didn’t come here to “restore us to acceptable levels success,” he came to return to the place where we have better than good chance to beat both blue bellied teams in our house, in their house and any court in between.
    .
He couldn’t mail in 2 or 3 seasons until “his players” got here. And he “his players” may not be those 5-star recruits. I think the TOB philosophy is right for NCSU at this point in time. Sid is going to have to play his players to find out who’s is a gamer and who isn’t. Costner could be a great player, but IMO he’s not a gamer. I see Ben as being a gamer tho his physical limitations don’t serve him in the ACC. I suspect CJ is a gamer. Mays likely is a gamer, just not ready to play with the men he has to battle.
    .
The true winner, the guy I want with me in an alley fight? Javi Gonzales. I may be wrong (I was wrong several years ago when I thought I was wrong and I wasn’t) about Javi, but I don’t think so.
    .
Sid is not going to do anything shady, stretch the rules or in any way embarrass himself or the university. We at NCSU may have to get used to the development of talent. There’s s say that athletics builds character and that me be true, but I think the corollary, “We recruit character and build athletic teams” may be the way at NCSU. And I for sure one don’t care if we never get another “one-and-done.”
    .
Go State. Bring on whoever shows up to play us Thursday. I for one and behind you. Just keep me away from the fucking zebras who sellout to the intimidaters. Get some hockey refs in there. They don’t take shit off players or coaches. Your ass (or in the case of a coach, your player rep) is in the box and you’ll play short-handed for 2 minutes. A hockey ref is the last official in any sport I would mess with.

^^^I’m not a Kansas fan, but I am so glad that Memphis came *this* close to winning a national title and then poof – they lost. Karma still works … sometimes.

Well said, Wufpup! Not only that, it was C-D-R that said the poor FT shooting would NOT come back to haunt them. i love that He was WRONG! One of the BIG problems with the current NBA rule (one and done) is that players that have NO (Not ONE) intention of graduating college would much rather go to Memphis than a “real” BCS Div. 1 school. Memphis has lower standards for the basketball program as it does for their university. The MAIN reason Calipari did not want to come to State was NOT money, it was admissions standards. He’s assured of 25-30 wins a year and can recruit ANY high school player. I hope the NCAA takes a look at not only the Memphis program, but the “one and done” rule. It’s ruining college hoops and the idea of student athletes. I think they need to go the same rout as baseball, or at the very least 2 years of college (instead of 3)or straight to the NBA.

I’ll restate what Wufpup said, cause it bears repeating, “I’m not a Kansas fan, but I am so glad that Memphis came *this* close to winning a national title and then poof – they lost. Karma still works … sometimes.” And, I’ll add, I think Wall is ALOT more important than Cousins. It Is a guard’s game. If we get Wall and another big, we will be MORE than fine for next year!

  15. Greywolf 03/08/2009 at 9:48 PM #

OK, I tried to edit to add Tracey Smith to my gamer list but got a message that I did not have permission to edit. Am I on probation for too long a post or something?

and I can edit the caca.
ditto Memphis and the 1& done rule, too.

  16. wolfp83 03/08/2009 at 11:17 PM #

Ed89 your right about wall because JJ Hickson or any player
that plays that position will not have the impact. A guard
gets everybody involved. A John Wall makes a Brandon Costner
a great player not a good player like he is.

    Wolfpack Nation!!!!

We got a great draw in the ACC tournament starting on thursday night. We get a Maryland team which is very beatable and we will show up and play hard and make them pay for the disrespect of Vazquez shooting that 3 at the end of the game. Friday we will get our rematch with Wake and we will beat them no question in my mind because we are better than Wake Forest. We manhandled them the first time and the 2nd time we gave it to them and we will win this game. That leaves us with 2 to play Sat & Sun and I feel the Tarheels will make it to sunday and I just hope we can get through Saturday so we can have 1 more shot at them. They are beatable and that game does not mean as much to them as it will us and we should play hard and compete. Get your heads up state fans this is go time and we have the opportunity to do something special!!

I will comment on the DeMarcus Cousins thing quickly, he is not a big dissapointment to me because I was counting on him coming nor do we really need him honestly…. I mean I would not run him away but its not a big loss because we will have Howell,Smith,Costner,Horner to rotate next year in the big positions. I honestly think it is a great thing for NC State because now there is no need for John Wall to come anywhere else but here.

Lets face it he is not going to Baylor, he has NO feelings to go to Duke I heard that from a good source and Baylor simply has enough players with cousins, xavier, and the kid they already have that was going to leave early but will stay now. so John wants to go somewhere and shine and uplift a program for a year and then go pro and he will do this at NC State. He will stay close to home to be with his mom and learn under Sidney for 1 year and then he will go to the NBA.

Normally I would say I hate 1 and done players but this is a fantastic scenerio because we have Harrow coming in the following year and he is AMAZING!!!! very underrated and will pick up right where John Wall left off and he is a 4 year player. So everyone just sit tight because with Wall,Brown,Howell,Wood, 1 juco player a big man im hearing to bang boards we are going to be a very athletic skilled team next year.

I also want to clear the air that someone on some website said CJ Leslie was backing out of his commitment to NC State that is just a complete false accusation he is signed and very very HAPPY about coming to NC State!!! GO PACK

  18. Wulfpack 03/09/2009 at 5:13 AM #

We are “better” than Wake Forest? Seriously? How do you figure? Do you ever look at ACC standings or seedings? We have shown we can beat Wake, but we aren’t “better” than them by any stretch. They will be heavily favored if we are fortunate enough to beat MD.

  19. BJD95 03/09/2009 at 6:35 AM #

I will always hate John Calipari for screwing us over like he did, but part of me will always like him because he was absolutely the perfect coach for NC State. In my mind, I can still envision what Tobacco Road would be like with Cal on our sidelines. It would have been awesome.

  20. Rick 03/09/2009 at 7:24 AM #

“First you lose close, then you win close, then you win big.”

I am so tired of this quote. And it is NOT a guarantee. IF it happens that is probably the way it happens but I am tired of people pulling it out.

  21. Rick 03/09/2009 at 7:25 AM #

“In my mind, I can still envision what Tobacco Road would be like with Cal on our sidelines. It would have been awesome.”

As soon as he started winning the N&O and other media outlets would have “found” something to crucify him.

  22. ms termeaner 03/09/2009 at 7:50 AM #

Please stop with this quote. We have not exactly won close or won big.
This team has zero idenity and it has been this way the past few years. Whose at fault? Players for sure, but the bottom line is the staff and the head coach.
Finishing close in recruiting is not a great accomplishment it is just good PR or false hope.
Time to move on ,unless 6 wins and 10th place is a great step forward.

  23. Rochester 03/09/2009 at 7:57 AM #

Leslie is not technically “signed” yet. He is only a junior. He could back out just like Chris Wright did, without any penalty or need to be released from an LOI. I hope he doesn’t go that route, but just wanted to point out that technically he could.

  24. ms termeaner 03/09/2009 at 8:01 AM #

Oh thanks I thought that was wrong ,but I was not sure how binding it was.

  25. smile102 03/09/2009 at 8:23 AM #

“First you lose close, then you win close, then you win big.”

The very much more likely scenario is: you lose, you win some, you win some,….. you never win big.
