Second Half Offensive Meltdown Dooms Pack

Stop me if you heard this one before – but after building a solid first half lead, the Wolfpack offense goes into a coma for the entire second half, losing 72-64. At least it was just shitty and braindead play, not effort (unlike the Maryland game).

State will be seeded 10th, and square off against Maryland unless VT wins tomorrow and the Terps lose later today. For the rest of the weekend, here’s what you should want as an NC State fan:

1) Maryland to beat Virginia. If the Cavs win, you are looking at 3 ACC teams projected to fall into the NIT (Maryland, Miami, Virginia Tech) ahead of NC State. Although there is no hard and fast rule, the only reason I saw for leaving Wake out of the NIT last year was that 3 ACC teams were already in the field.

2) UNC to beat Duke. From a “hoping for a miracle” matchup standpoint, we need to avoid UNC for as long as humanly possible. Perhaps someone else (I’m thinking FSU) can beat them for us.

3) Wake to beat Clemson. Coupled with a Duke loss, this would put the Deacs in the #2 slot, and Wake is by far NC State’s best possible Friday matchup.

UNI and Illinois St. tied in the MVC championship w/ 3 minutes left as the wait for the latest game of the century contiues …

Some of the other coaches brought in some top talent, sure, but especially over the past two decades, NC State has not been showing up on any of the #1 and #2 player’s in the country lists.

That’s a lie. What are those coaches names?

Les Robinson, during his first three years, was REGUlARLY involved with just about every parade all-american out there.

Jerry Stackhouse? Remember him? Donald Williams? Remember him? Dontonio Wingfield. Danny Fortson. Louis Bullock. Ray Allen. We were all in all of those guys (and two dozen more).

Are you seriously claiming that Al Harrington was not visiting and heavily considering NC State when Sendek was here? Remember Damien Wilkins? Remember Byron Mouton?

    Apparently you don’t.

You could take a dump in a bucket, name it the head basketball coach at NC State and it could come in second for a top-10 recruit.

Seriously — name me the coach at NC State in the last 50 years that was NOT heavily involved with top-10 players.

I say that it shows that our coach believes that he, as well as NC State, are more worthy of those types of kids then NC State has been in the past twenty years. I applaud his efforts in going after those kids when the NC State that he is now representing, hasn’t really given him any bargaining leverage, or even a leg to stand on when dealing with the kids of today.

Herb Sendek and Les Robinson didn’t want the best possible players? Have you lost your mind?

Les Robinson and Buzz Peterson would probably take turns beating you to death with a chair if they heard you say that. They nearly had a nervous breakdown after Stackhouse chose UNC.

Herb Sendek’s first class was a top-10 class. He brought in top-15 classes the first…what…four years he was here?

Are…you NEW to following NC State basketball?

Great ending between UNI and Illinois St. and all Enberg and Wenzel can talk about is Holes/Duke, Ty Lawson, big rivalry, no way Lawson misses the game blah, blah, blah …

Meanwhile, one of these teams will make the NCAA tourny and the other likely will be relegated to the NIT. But by all means, let’s talk about Duke/Holes instead of the tied championship game that you’re calling. I mean, we NEVER hear about those teams – *especially* when they play each other.

  4. wufpup76 03/08/2009 at 2:52 PM #

UNI should have the ball with about 1.2 seconds left in regulation on a shot clock violation … guess they missed that call. Announcers surely missed it as their minds were in Chapel Hole.

^Just to add, consider all of the back and forth on this site alone, regarding Sidney Lowe’s collegiate coaching abilities, then put yourself in his shoes, standing in some kid’s living room. Then remember that the kid is going ask, “Coach Lowe, who is it that you coach for again?”, and Lowe can only say, “N..NC STATE, BU, BU, BUT, PLEASE!!! Give me another moment of your time. This is NOT the NC State that you’ve grown accustomed to seeing in your short lifetime, I’m desparately trying to change all of that!” And the kid says, “I’ve got a younger brother, maybe he’ll be interested later on, but not me, not now.”

  9. Coach Abatemarco 03/08/2009 at 3:01 PM #

are they seriosly cutting away from the game to show a unc commercial and the starting lineups……..oh myyyyy

it is the end of the game 3pts and they cut away from ot…….arggghhhhh

  10. wufpup76 03/08/2009 at 3:04 PM #

Lame. I understand them going away from the championship feed in this area – but still lame.

  11. Coach Abatemarco 03/08/2009 at 3:06 PM #

wow sure would have been nice to see how n iowa went up with 6 seconds left and to see the last 6 seconds split screen….

  12. wufpup76 03/08/2009 at 3:12 PM #

Sure am glad we got to hear and see all of Danny Green and the walk on’s happy gay dance for “Jump Around” instead of the ending of the UNI game.

    UNI wins by 3.

And that was a total block on Hansjob and he naturally gets up bitching about it. “Nobody makes me bleed my own blood. Nobody calls fouls on me. My WILL be done.”

  13. Coach Abatemarco 03/08/2009 at 3:15 PM #

    psssyyyyycchhhhooooo T rarrrrrrrrrrrrr

how can ty lawson play with so much pain…….man i hope he does not hurt his toe any more. that toe could lead to his death or something

ouch zooobeekkkkkkk that had to hurt……foul on zobek..

It really doesnt matter to me weather UNC winning a game helps State or not…

I probably wouldn’t pull for those commies over osama and the taliban…us being scared of playing them is our problem, and hopefully it wont be that way much longer!
to me thats how rivals work…haha the ole ABC club.

i`m done trying to analyse this season in my head…if i rewind to about a month ago, i didnt see us winning more than 3 games in the ACC, and i dont think anyone else did either. we doubled that and are taking steps forward, however small they may be. still not completely convinced that sid, et al…can get the job done, but i`m encouraged. it would be nice to add a 5 star recruit to the class…

“Herb Sendek and Les Robinson didn’t want the best possible players? Have you lost your mind?”

#1’s Noah, I’m talking #1’s, Favors and Wall, the best available.

Also, Les Robinson DID NOT HAVE the TEN YEAR dead space involving NC State’s identity crisis like Sidney Lowe has to deal with right now.

Also, I never even implied otherwise so don’t be an ass, of course LR and HS wanted the very best, they just couldn’t deliver it. Lowe’s got what they left behind to go on, and that ain’t helping his cause one damn bit.

  16. Wulfpack 03/08/2009 at 3:56 PM #

Yea Red, Herb really inherited one juggernaut of a program that the great Les “play in game” Robinson built.

NC State – where we celebrate finishing 2nd or 3 rd in recruiting and 10th place ACC finishes.

  17. Noah 03/08/2009 at 4:12 PM #

#1’s Noah, I’m talking #1’s, Favors and Wall, the best available.

Jerry Stackhouse? Al Harrington? Schea Cotton? Damien Wilkins? Hell, we got commitments from two of those guys.

Also, Les Robinson DID NOT HAVE the TEN YEAR dead space involving NC State’s identity crisis like Sidney Lowe has to deal with right now.

Well, Robinson created his own dead space. And the “dead space” that Lowe inherited included five straight NCAA tournament appearances.

Also, I never even implied otherwise so don’t be an ass, of course LR and HS wanted the very best, they just couldn’t deliver it. Lowe’s got what they left behind to go on, and that ain’t helping his cause one damn bit.

Again — we got commitments from Schea Cotton and Damien Wilkins.

Les delivered three top-25 recruiting classes, believe it or not. And if you look at HS rankings, Sendek’s first four recruiting classes were infinitely better than Lowe’s.

And one more time — Sendek took over a program that had not had a winning season in six years. Lowe took over a program with five straight NCAA tournament appearances.

I get that you hate Sendek. That’s fine. (personally, I didn’t really care one way or the other) And I get that you have an obscene crush on Lowe. Also fine. (everyone knows that I despise him)

But what you are saying just isn’t true. It’s not even close to being true.

  18. howlie 03/08/2009 at 4:15 PM #

    Wall commits to Pack.

All this season’s logs rendered moot.

  19. DT44 03/08/2009 at 5:07 PM #

Is that news, or a hypothetical scenario?

  20. DT44 03/08/2009 at 5:31 PM #

    Hello–anyone here??

  21. redfred2 03/08/2009 at 5:46 PM #

So, Robinson created his own deadspace, I’m not defending him. SOOOO, what is YOUR argument there???

“Les delivered three top-25 recruiting classes, believe it or not. And if you look at HS rankings, Sendek’s first four recruiting classes were infinitely better than Lowe’s.”

Well whoop tee dooo!!! Didn’t both of scenario’s just work out fine and dandy for NC State.

You say I have a man crush, WTH???!!! EVERYTHING, and I mean EVERY-little-THING about NC State BB RIGHT NOW does not revolve around what Herb Sendek did or did not do! And THANK GOODNESS FOR THAT, or we’d be stuck in neutral for another ten years!!!

YOUR argument is like so many others, you folks cannot, and will not, allow a period of time for REAL change and the possibility for REAL improvement. You guys are Lee Fowler clones, you were completely happy with the status quo, your little feelings got hurt, and you’re now embarrassed simply because we aren’t comfortably rooted in the middled of the pack anymore.

Sorry, I can’t help you with that.

  22. DT44 03/08/2009 at 5:51 PM #

    Howlie—can I get an answer??

  23. redfred2 03/08/2009 at 5:52 PM #

I do not like Sendek, but I’m not in love with Lowe either. I’d say it’s kind of like a steady diet of nothing but cottage cheese for a decade, ANYTHING is better for awhile.

  24. redfred2 03/08/2009 at 6:14 PM #

I would just like to point out that some people, the same people who have totally trashed Les Robinson in the past, are now using his example, along with that of Herb Sendek’s, as the GOLD standard for how the NC State BB program should always be handled, and from now to eternity, I’m guessing anyway? That whosoever deviates, or has any variances whatsoever from that well worn path to no where, be it either negatively or positively, is simply considered a complete ass, and shouldn’t be in Raleigh, eventhough THEIR favorite University was the one who asked him to come in the first place.

  25. TJEVERETTE1984 03/08/2009 at 6:34 PM #

    Wolfpack Nation:

I am a very positive person and also a realistic person but some of the previous posts have really angered me and bothered me alot. I am sick of hearing about anything thas has happened in the past it is irrelevent. Nobody wants to her about previous recruiting or previous coaches THEY are who got us in the situation we are in now. They sat NC State back many of years because of their lack of coaching and the complete wrong system to compete in the ACC at a high level.

I will not get into the past with those names because quite frankly it is exactly that the past. Let me remind some of these crazy ass remarks that have been made today about Sidney Lowe having to sell our school to people. GIVE ME A BREAK!!! This is N.C. State when you put on that red and white you are putting on and representing rich tradition and a great program. We have been down for quite a while and it has been a work in progress these 3 years and we HAVE improved ALOT if you can sit here and say we have not improved then you no longer need to watch any basketball games because you are a idiot.

Sidney Lowe is the BEST recruiting head coach we have had here in the past 10 years NO QUESTION in my mind. I get so tired of hearing we are coming in 2nd for guys… I would much rather make it to a 50/50 chance to get a TOP player in the country in which we had with Favors,Cousins, and Wall still undecided THEN not even be on the radar. It shows we are going after the best and not settling for decent players but we want the best. When you put on that red and white you better come to work because Sidey Lowe is installing a great program and it is on the rise! We will be SOO much more athletic this upcoming year and he will find us a big man to bang bodies for depth reasons until we can get CJ Leslie here.Sidney Lowe is a very smart man and he knows to get us another big body to help with Howell (BEAST) Smith (BEAST) Costner who will be back next year and Horner. We are going to be alot better next year then some of you think we will be. John Wall will come to NC State because Memphis was his only other choice than us that he is really considering and Memphis has Cousins and the other kid Nagy or whatever that is supposed to be a outstanding guard plus they have a all american at memphis already that hurt his lottery this year so he will be back next year. There is simply no room at Memphis for John Wall to go in and shine and show how great he is. So he will come to NC State and lead us and provide us with the point guard play and the uptempo we want to run.

If every post you want to throw out here is going to be negative how about hit the red X in the top right hand corner of your computer and close this page out and never re open it. The true NC State fans are positive about the outlook of the way things have turned around the 2nd half of this year and we look SOOOO much better than we did 2 months ago. Next year is when you need to judge Sidney Lowe’s coaching not these past 3 years having to coach with Herb’s players who are meant for a totally different offense.GUARD PLAY GUARD PLAY GUARD PLAY that is what we are lacking and with LO Brown Scot Wood and John Wall PLUS the following year Ryan Harrow we will put NC State back in the NCAA tourney and back on the map for all of those who think we are dead. There is a sleeping giant in the ACC and people have been overlooking and next year everybody will find out because the sleeping dog has just been kicked and he is ready to get up and show what we are building here at the GREAT N.C. State University!!!!!!!!!!!

ACC Tourney coming up and we are ready to see if we can make a run, as I always do I am going to leave you with a Jimmy V quote. Thanks guys!
