With only 6 regular-season games remaining, today’s win assures us that we will not have two seasons in a row that end on a 9-game losing streak.

It’s nice to have a win…but it was against the last place team. I think that this game says more bad things about GT than good things about State.

^It doesn’t say much good about Ga Tech, but keep in mind their last few games have all been very close. They beat Wake by 2, lost at FSU by 4, lost at home against Maryland by 1, and lost at Va Tech by 5. Then we crushed them by 21. You can say they suck, and you’re not far off, but we just handed them their worst loss of the year.

The biggest improvement in Smith’s game today was the fact that he actually passed the ball. He will realize that passing slows down the double team. CJ Williams as a shooter could be a critical part for us down the stretch. 16 TO’s are a bit easier to stomach when you score 85 points than when you score 65 points.

Va – I’m no eternal optimist here, but the NC State team that took the court today gave the best overall performance in the past two years. I don’t give a crap who we played… it was still an ACC team, a team that took us to OT on our home court a month ago.

This game made it obvious that we’ve dramatically improved, and done so in a startling short period of time. Let’s enjoy it…

I agree as well. It was a good game-even if it was against an inferior team. It was on the road and we gave it to em pretty good. I’m happy with the outcome. I dare say, even with the GA-Tech’s record, they are inferior ONLY by evidence of their record as I believe them to be a DANGEROUS team. Someone said it before and I’ll say it again, there are probably quite a few teams out there (perhaps even including us) that would rather not face them in the ACC Tournament.

“What I find particularly pathetic is that if the guys are playing this way now, they had the *capability* to play that way earlier on. *To me*, that speaks to coaching because you’re not getting the utmost from everyone the whole season.”

SMD, I think you’re absolutely right, but I’d go even one step further. I’d say that these players, even when they were kids back in the first grade, were good enough to play EXACTLY the way that they did today. That there was never any need for them to develop any further or to figure out how to work together as a team from that point on back in the first grade. And that anything that they may have learned beyond their first year in grade school is just a waste, and there are no excuses otherwise, and it all falls back on the coach’s shoulders once again.

    Good lord…

Nice game by the Pack today. Sid seems to be settling down with his subbing and the result has been a couple of wins. Nice effort by Tracy Smith today too. We turned it over too much but we never quit and put them away nicely.

I’d have to say that the differences between Degand and Javi’s playing styles is also a contributing factor in the turnovers. Degand plays the perimeter and drives, pretty much waiting to see his teammates get open on their own. Javi goes anywhere and everywhere, sometimes where he shouldn’t, forcing the action and giving his teammates angles and options that haven’t been available to them until just recently. Their reactions to Javi’s willingness to do that should continue to improve, and that should continue to improve the effectiveness of the offense accordingly.

Va, sounds like listening to the guys on ESPN after the Wake game. It couldn’t have possibly meant that NC State might have improved just a little over the past few weeks, it was instead ALL about how Wake is slipping.

I’m not going overboard, but I am pretty happy to see this thing finally starting to take hold. I do need to settle down and curb my excitement though.

What I need is a downer, or just a good ole shot of sobering negativity…

WHERE IN THE HELL IS N O A H !!! when you really need him???

WHERE IN THE HELL IS N O A H !!! when you really need him???

lowe still sucks. Blah blah blah.

(I’m through with basketball. I’ll only be chiming in on football from now on)

  16. redfred2 02/14/2009 at 8:42 PM #

    “Blah blah blah.”

    Nay nay nay nay nay

It’s tough isn’t it. Don’t worry Noah, the Wolfpack BB team will lose another game, I assure you. Then you can come back on and strut your negativity like a peacock once again.

BTW, Is that unc football you’re speaking of, or what?

Good win for the Pack even if it was a bit ugly at times. One thing I’ve noticed over the last 4 or 5 games is the higher number of steals we’ve been getting. I haven’t looked at the acutual stats, but I have to imagine that over most of the season we’ve been averaging 5 or less. Over the last stretch it seems to be closer to a double digit average. You can certainly afford to turn the ball over more if you are rebounding and getting a good amount of steals. Man if we can keep the TO’s at around the 10 mark…

    Let’s keep it up Pack.

Reggie Miller pointed out on TNT that during the NBA all star shooting contest that both Lisa Leslie and Michael Cooper were wearing pink shoes in honor of Kay Yow. Nice to hear Coach Yow as well as NC State get a mention on national TV and a nice gesture by Leslie and Coop.

Good game today by the boys, I was impressed by the balanced scoring and the efforts of Smith on the boards and McCauley providing leadership and rebounding even though he hasn’t been scoring.

Good road win. Maybe this team is getting it together. Still a lot of games to play, but we know we will play in the ACC/Big 11 Challenge next November. That’s something. Ok, maybe not, but better than this year.

  20. redfred2 02/14/2009 at 9:51 PM #

Let’s see now, we win two in a row in conference play, one against one of our original ACC Big Four rivals and a team currently ranked in the top ten, and then win one on the road by 20+ against a team that narrowly beat us in the closing seconds at our place just a few weeks earlier.

And then what do you hear…

“(I’m through with basketball. I’ll only be chiming in on football from now on)”

I’m sorry too Noah, I truly hate that the Wolfpack is now winning some games too. Damn that Sidney Lowe, I personally hate him so much that I’d rather see him lose, and the entire NC State BB program going even further down the tubes, then ever to admit that I MIGHT have been wrong about him.

Now that my friends, is the type of an NC State fan that wecan tell our kids about, and one can only hope that they will aspire to be just like him some day.

Javi continues pushing the ball and playing pretty well. IF we can get out of throwing the ball out of bounds or not taking care of the ball in a press we might be alright.

  23. Wulfpack 02/14/2009 at 10:23 PM #

Very nice win for the Pack. Didn’t get to watch. Hope we bring it wednesday night.

Va, sounds like listening to the guys on ESPN after the Wake game. It couldn’t have possibly meant that NC State might have improved just a little over the past few weeks, it was instead ALL about how Wake is slipping.

After the State game, WF had dropped 4 of 6 to GT, VT, Miami, and NC State. You can’t really be surprised that someone was talking about WF slipping….which says absolutetly nothing about whether or not State has improved over the last several weeks.

  25. redfred2 02/14/2009 at 10:29 PM #

They’ve certainly made some improvement, but it’s not over. We’ll still see many more poor decisions and goofy mistakes, but I really like the fact that because of the continued decision to give certain individuals PT when it may not have APPEARED productive, is now proving to be a HUGE positive for the duration of the season. Sidney Lowe can now look down his bench to see it full of players who have played substaintial minutes together in gameday situations, and he can draw from that when someone is struggling out on the court.
