Update: Lowe Says He Hasn’t Talk To Costner About Costner’s Plans

Sidney Lowe said in a press conference today that he hasn’t spoken with NC State player Brandon Costner about about leaving the team.

“That wasn’t something I wanted to get involved in right now,” [Sidney Lowe] said. “We want him to concentrate on doing the best he can for N.C. State right now, and then we will sit down and talk about it.

“As an organization and program, we have to prepare for both. But right now it’s something we don’t want to talk about. We know it’s there but we haven’t discussed it.”

Last week SFN linked to an interview of Brandon Costner from a website called “Northstar Basketball Blog”. The interview was done done last summer but not posted on the blog until last month. It can be seen by clicking here.

The following was the set up to the interview:

The talented redshirt junior was at the Steve Nash Skills Academy “just hanging out” because he was “home for a couple of weeks [and] knew a lot of the guys there, so [he] just wanted to stop by and say ‘what’s up’.” The ACC star said, “It’s nice to enjoy. I’m a fan as much as I am a basketball player, and I’m a fan of all those guys [who participated in the event], so it’s nice to come and workout.” Brandon told me this when I spoke to him during the college players’ workout time, a session that included coaching from Steve Nash himself. I also discussed much more with Costner, such as his game, his time at NC State, and his future.

The “Q&A” format of the blog entry would infer that the answers given by Costner were direct quotes…but, no quotations are included in the Q&A part of the interview.

The N&O’s ACCNow posted an entry on this topic as a follow-up to the UNC-CH game this weekend.

N.C. State forward Brandon Costner said he has not decided whether he will return for his senior season despite an Internet report that indicates he is leaving.

A junior who redshirted when he was a freshman, Costner said the interview for Northstar Basketball Blog was done last summer.

“I definitely didn’t definitively say I’m leaving,” Costner said. “Just another one of those crazy Internet rumors that goes around about me. I’d rather people just shut up and stop making up stuff.”

I am guessing that this passes the smell test for at least two or three readers out there.

For the record, here’s exactly what was said:

NB: You don’t plan on doing a grad school year and playing your senior season [of eligibility]?
BC: No

    man what a great video.

My personal favorite is his coast to coast dunk at Wake a few years ago, also on youtube.

Costner’s experience would be great for us to have next year, knowing how young the team will probably be. He is not the Atsur type example I would necessarily want for the young guys but just the continuity he could provide and give Sid a good trusted option to go with late in games.

I am not sure if it’s Sid’s questionable substitutions or what, but it always seems like BC in on fire to start games, and then for whatever reason just kinda disappears until later in the second half. Maybe that’s just me though.

Hope he stays, I think next year could be pretty fun.

Well I will have to say that I am bout tired of these undecided youngsters. bout tired of their “I’m not sure” attitude. Yeah Costner comes back and says “I didnt say that” Blah Blah. I would rather have individuals that are more sure of themselves and their decisions, What you might could describe as UMMM, “A little more Mature”.

Screw these “teasers” and “Head Cases”. After Brandon’s Frosh Year I guess I could say ” Hate to lose him but if he’s gotta move on to the NBA, Well, Hay I understand.” But I’m Sorry that’s not the case now. We are dealing with a very confused player. But there are a few things that are different now in his Junior Year. He is not NBA material like I thought after his first year. Last Year was about as bad of a follow-up season for him to accomplish what he did that 1st year as I have ever seen. And now he seems to have his head back in the game a little bit but is still “Wierd”, to me. But now he can graduate, move on, etc. Whatever. I really could care care less what he does, what Wall does, Cousins, etc. Bout tired of it.If Costner , Wall, or Cousins dont make it here next season. How much worse are we really gonna be when you compare this program to the last 20 years. And these guys try to make national spotlights shine on them when they make their”FINAL” decision. Just like Favors did. And probably like Wall and Cousins will do. I dont care if Wall, Costner, Cousins or any other “Wierdos” decide to run with the Pack.At the same time I wouldn’t mind seeing either suit up in the RED and WHITE. But Dang all the emphasis around a bunch of youngins that are obviously confused about what they want to do. I respect Brown, Wood, and Howell alot more for signing on the dot at the signing day and at least that makes me feel a little more secure about them that are somewhat certain about what they want to do.

Well this post turned into a little more than I thought would, but what the heck. I just wish the team would turn out to be a little better than I thought they would, Goodnight!

It’s fine with me if he leaves. Time to get the Sendekians out for good and let’s get some good attitude player/leaders in that relish playing in this league and who will demonstrate it EVERY game.
    Not just occasionally.
