it is sad as a Pack fan when you are just waiting, hoping the inevitable will not happen THIS time, still got that glimmer that this one will be different, then…. Lucy pulls the football away from you yet again. Tough being a Wolfpack fan, but wait til next year — did see some great stuff tonight, just the same old problems, but great to see the guys scrap and play hard, hope we can keep building

Perhaps Lowe is playing a rotation that will work when/if we have a load of quality depth a la UNC. Other coaches have been praised for putting in their system before they had the players to do so.

    Good Evening Wolfpack Fans,

Listen up guys please !!! First off I want to give 100% credit to Sidney Lowe and the team tonight. They came in to Cameron Indoor Stadium and out hustled and out played Duke for about 32 minutes tonight and led right much of the game. Sidney Lowe had the guys playing hard and they played smart for a good bit of the game. The ending result score is pointless to be 17 because this was about a 8 point ball game at the most. We played our asses off and we all husteled and played together. I really feel we have made a turn for the better since the Ga. Tech game and if we would have hit that 3 by Johnny Thomas it would have gave us our momentum back and anything could have happened. All in all alot better than I expected and I think this showing should back off alot of the critisism and let us get back to being fans and being positive not negative. Let’s see if we can go down to B.C. with the same momentum and we will beat them . Only thing I wonder was why Javy played at all in the 2nd half I really liked Mays flow to the game and he protects the ball and he is smart, I am liking what I see out of Johnny Thomas great hustler and smart and if they would not have shot lights out behind the arch in the 2nd half we would have won this basketball game. We are very young in key spots the point and Mays is a good leader……….. If we can add John Wall to that class next year we are going to really have a solid basketball team I feel next year. Cousins I think is pretty much going to go somewhere else because we are low down on his list. Great Job Wolfpack hold your heads up high you have NOTHING to be ashamed of. Guys we need to all really step up and support the team and Sidney to give them more confidence for B.C. call the Sidney Lowe Radio show tommorow night and just say you appreciate the hustle and the way we never gave up! thanks guys !

Ben says in post-game he didn’t play well the last 5 mins and “I need to work on that.” Good attitude from Ben. I’ll take that guy.

No problems with rotation, just would like to see the execution.
It’s painful to see the mistakes.

    Can Horner make a 3?
If it is suppose to be in his range, then I would like to see Tracy and Ben start shooting them. This will open up the post for Trevor and CJ.

Degand needed a breather… he looked gassed from the 6 or 7 minute mark down til he sat for the last 1:45….
That’s my only problem with tonight’s rotation. We have to remember that Degand is still rounding into shape. He had 3 TOs early, due to nerves, and then 3 more through those minutes I described above, because he was tired.

There is about a 90% chance we shall collapse the last few minutes of a game. We have a bunch of effing PU**ies playing on this team. We need some thugs. We need the shackelford’s and washburn’s, We need so much help in the backcourt. Where have the Monroe’s and Corchiani’s enrolled the past 20 years? HUH???? Not at state. We get no thugs, no ballers, nuthing but puss**s! Where are the Ballers? Your weems, del negroes, chucky browns, L charles, cozells, whitts, lowes, thurls, gannons, WHAT THE F**K. Tired of this Predictable Fu**in SH**!!!!!! We used to eat Fu**in Duke for Lunch. Now we are predicted to lose to the Fu**s each and every time we play them. It wouldnt be right if we didnt lose like a bunch of Pusses in a puss school that we have become and pushed further and further with each passing year into irrelevancy. We dont even qualify as mediocre anymore. WTF????

hball57, there ARE wins out there for us: NC Central, UVA, and Maryland (maybe) at home. There are no road wins out there unless we can beat Georgia Tech again.

Tonight’s game was a little like the Duke game here last season, when we blew a 13-point lead in the second half and lost. Tonight, we blew only a 5-point lead in the second half. That doesn’t hurt quite as much.

    I feel better already.

King Rice is an assistant coach for Vanderbilt? who knew?

  11. PackGirl 01/20/2009 at 10:29 PM #

Why was Javi not taken out after the game and shot executioner-style?

I am so sick of the Javi bashers. He played very well against Duke last year and was given a chance. I think he played better than Mays (minute for minute) this game. But I better not state that aloud or I may be shot myself. He has not been given any chance to even get into the flow of a game since his injuries.

Scraping and playing hard is what we got from this team tonight.
Sometimes that’s all you can ask of this team with these players.
I know Sid wanted that till the end be simply ran out of gas.
Having to work so hard for each score and having Dook hit 3’s everytime you look up had to be tuff.
GREAT EFFORT GUYS-KEEP IT UP -IT WILL PAY OFF!

I also wonder why Mays did not play more in the second half. If memory serves me correctly, Javi played decent against Duke last year, esp. defense on Paulus and getting in his face, and perhaps Sid thought playing Javi could rekindle some life into him. I thought Mays played a good first half, and he brings more offensive threat than Javi.

hball57 and wulfpack – look at my comments at the 9:30ish time frame- I saw the same thing you did, then they called the touch foul on Degand vs. Singler – a huge 3 point swing…when Duke had a 1 point lead. Oh well, I’ve actually seen us get jobbed worse and more blatantly in Cameron. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again- you need to beat Duke by 15 in Cameron to beat them by 1 point to win and need to beat them by about 7 to win by 1 at home.

“If Thomas could shoot, Fells could ride the bench, such an idiot. For every 1 good play he has 10 bad plays.”

If you came away from the game w/ this thought – you need to watch a little closer. Fells was playing great – and doing an excellent job on Gerald Henderson – until he got that 3rd foul call on him. It was a touchy call, but a foul. That was clearly a game changer. For one thing, IMHO, Sid was a little slow to bring in Thomas – who had done a decent job on him. He tried to keep Fells in the game, but I think we lost some of the aggressiveness that got us the lead.

Still, that’s just armchair QBing at this point – he deserves credit for a good gameplan.

“King Rice is an assistant coach for Vanderbilt? who knew?”

^I think he’s been w/ Kevin Stallings for a while now (perhaps even before Stallings came to Vandy?) … He’s also the same King Rice who will charge into the stands and challenge you to a fight if he doesn’t like your harassment from the stands! (Yes, this happened – more than once, I think)

A shocker that he went to the Hole? … Noooooooooo 🙂

I really enjoy what I’m reading out of these comments.

I, as others, believe this game came down to Duke being completely lights out, Courtney Fells’ 3rd foul call, and lastly the bump that Degand got as he was going up for an easy layup, and no call. I think had we gotten that call, we keep the momentum as we would’ve taken the lead, and Duke had somewhat calmed down a little at that point. I think we had a great effort all around with the exception of Javi and Horner. Say what you will about Horner saving us in the Ga Tech game, but all he did was hit free throws, which I think we could have done anyways (But that’s not the point, the point is this game). There was also another call where Tracy Smith was quadruple teamed, and went up, was hacked and no call. I think that hurt, because we didn’t go down low too much more following that. Degand and Mays played well, and I think Sid was attempting to keep Mays confidence high. Duke’s defense and atmosphere can hurt a freshman, and Degand was playing well with the exception of the first few minutes.

We also lost so momentum when Javi was put in. He does not deserve to be put in. No offense to the kid, but he’s not ACC Caliber. I think he is kind of our basketball version of Daniel Evans. He tries, but once he comes into the game, no on believes in him, and just simply put he isn’t that good. Once no one believes, we’re all screwed.

I think if we bring this same attitude, and we play smarter, and continue to grow, it’s possible to finish this season at 7-9, and if we sneak in a victory or two, 8-8. The future is beginning to look bright as I’ve always said. Let’s take our focus off of the loss, and let’s look forward to BC and bring it to them. Play hard D on Tyrese Rice, and hold him under 20, and we should win.

By the way for the record… DEMARCUS COUSINS WILL BE TAKEN AN OFFICIAL VISIT TO N.C. State In the NEAR future. He will also be taken an official to Kansas State and Memphis. Memphis APPARENTLY only has one more scholarship to offer. They are in the running for several folks, including Wall Lance Stephenson, and obviously Cousins. Cousins also has interest in Wake Forest, and Virginia Tech. Va Tech appears to be close to out of scholarships also. Lastly Favors said UAB is no longer a possible location, they are COMPLETELY OUT .

  19. wufpup76 01/20/2009 at 10:40 PM #

^^Fells was the only one who came remotely close to holding down Henderson … That is, prior to picking up that 3rd foul

I like JT a lot, but there’s still a lot for him to learn and improve on … And thus far he has proven not to be a shooter – hope this turns around soon

  20. WolfEyes 01/20/2009 at 10:45 PM #

WOLFPack, I believe Favors has already committed to Georgia Tech.

I’m not an admin, but let’s all try to remember that everyone has a right to their own opinion … So try to stay away from the name calling / attacking fellow commenters lest we become that which we all despise (the Idiot Boards!)

    GO PACK!

Really this is getting very very lame ……….yes lets all give Sid credit for tonight? Is this tee ball? Effort is something I would expect not something every once in awhile to applaud,
Ben,Fells and Costner are carrying us and all you Sid guy’s wanted them on the pines just 2 games ago?
