WF – Holes has been a good game and for as much sh*t as I give refs I’d like to say they’ve done a pretty fair job tonight of letting the players decide the game … This is a lot better than handcuffing one team while another team is allowed to play

It also helps when teams / players actually go on the attack and force the issue against the Holes … Both Boston College and Wake Forest have met the challenge and for the most part the refs have let them play

    Aggressive play > Timid play

    Rice > Lawson

    Teague > Lawson

Interesting stuff … Fun stuff! 🙂

GA Wolf – one question for you – who is the ugly girl here – our coaching staff or the players?

Evidence, would appear to suggest the staff. Seriously, can you list the accomplishments of said staff? I mean, at least these recruits were wanted by other major colleges, the same can’t be said of our HC, and Towe or maybe even Strickland.

Red – as usual – you give some good food for thought. One would one hope JJ’s reputed work ethic would have motivated the others around him…but what about the other 7 players Lowe has given a scholarship to – do they not count? Are they so lacking of the skills that the other 5 have that they can’t knock one of the same out of the rotation.

Me, I’ve accepted the fact that a combo of injuries, inexperience in the coaching staff, and putting this staff in a bad position have led us to where we are. As such, I’ve set my bar low for this year – simply wanting good effort and good execution…And to everyone’s credit, thus far, this team is meeting my expectations.

However, when I see folks denegrate the efforts of 3 players, primarily because their sin was to commit to this university w/ another coach (all the while ignoring the sins of the others whom have followed) – it annoys hell out of me. It’s kind of like blaming the financial crisis on “deregulation” – it’s looking for one boogeyman while ignoring the other ones so it can fit one’s view of the world.

I’d only ask you to look as far as our football team. We had a pro-calibre offensive lineman. He was suspended from our opener – and ended up being kicked off the team. The coaching staff gave him plenty of chances, and he may have even started a game or two this year – but you can guarandamntee the team understood that if you aren’t committed, you aren’t welcome.

Hell, we had a first team ACC qb who wasn’t publicly given the green light (actually quite to the contrary) until the opener. This same guy sat w/ the other 10 or so guys, while TOB congratulated all the OTHER guys who attended every SPRING practice.

OTOH, if these 3 are at fault – how have their transgressions been handled?

One thing you need to understand about b’ball players. By and large, they are prima donna’s – like American soccer players, if they weren’t soft to a certain extent, most of them would be playing football. (OK – that’s an exaggeration, but I like using to make a point – that the majority of basketball team has the emotional fragility of a poodle.) That being the case – the emotional well-being of the 8-10 guys who were highly recruited is a balancing act…it was something HWSNBN struggled w/ – especially in years 3-5.

One way of dealing w/ this is to get enough talent and alpha-males on the court so the “pack” takes care of this. Turn the channel to FoxSportsSouth – you’ll see a team w/ a personnell – w/ the exception of 3 lightly recruited guards – w/ an eery similarity to our team last year. This team is No 4 in the country now – I don’t know if they’ll win or lose tonight – but the chosen ones will know they’ve been challenged.

And that’s why I have some hope for the future…Lowe has signed and has commitments from some very powerful kids – hopefully, the “vibe” of the pack will change in the future. Hell, I’m optimistic enough to think that Degand, Mays and the staff can improve enough to give us a fun season this year.

Lineup two years from now will feature C.J. Leslie, Richard Howell, Tracy Smith, Lorenzo Brown, Scott Wood, Ryan Harrow, Julius Mays, and C.J. Williams, plus anyone else Lowe manages to land in the next class or two. On paper that’s a lot of talent. If we’re having anything close to a similar string on this board on January 11, 2011, Sid should start packing. I’m optimistic we won’t be talking like this then.

Yes, it sucks that we have to acknowledge we were “supposed” to lose to f’n Clemson. Unfortunately, there is no overnight cure. There is one thing that is sure to delay the return to competitive basketball, however, and that is to risk losing the next two recruiting classes by kicking Sid to the curb. Not that Jed would do it anyway, but it would be massively counterproductive.

    Rambunctious Roy is raging!!!

And the Holes have had to go to a zone …

  5. wufpup76 01/11/2009 at 10:00 PM #

Ok … danger zone … now the refs are taking charge

Fouling out james johnson on an off the ball play is Step 1

  6. wufpup76 01/11/2009 at 10:02 PM #

Teague is some player … I’m not above/below openly admitting that I am jealous of Wake having him

  7. SMD 01/11/2009 at 10:06 PM #

I am not above admitting that I wish we had athletes like either Wake or the Holes.

This game has been a thing of beauty to watch. Imagine that – having athletes who can get up and down the floor and score 80-90 points per game. It must be nice! 🙁

  8. wufpup76 01/11/2009 at 10:07 PM #

Ish Smith and Harvey Hale sure can make some NC State like decisions (pretty bad, in other words)

  9. wufpup76 01/11/2009 at 10:11 PM #

    McFarland!!!!!!!

  10. wufpup76 01/11/2009 at 10:16 PM #

    Really bad decision by Aminu

    just let him go!!!

  11. wufpup76 01/11/2009 at 10:26 PM #

    0-2!!!

    0-2!!!

    Still tied for last! YES!

I’m not a fan of Wake Forest, but I really, really like Dino Gaudio … He comes off as a very geniune, hard working good guy … And Wake actually plays defense under Gaudio (not meant to disparage Skip, RIP)

    THANK YOU DEMON DEACS!!!

Oh, and don’t worry unc fans, you folks will probably have the luxury, the notoriety, the advantages in recruiting, that being picked #1 brings next season as well. It may not mean much in reality, when BB season finally rolls around, but you sure as hell can’t beat all of the perks that come with it the rest of the year anyway.

^ He reminds me of a used care salesman.

Anyone know about the 2 defensive tackle recruits we landed today? I know we really needed some guys at that position. Hopefully we can dominate the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball in a year or two.

  14. wufpup76 01/11/2009 at 11:07 PM #

Just saw where there were 56 total fouls called in the WF-Chapel Hole game … so much for my comment about letting them play

They did call 28 personals on each team, so maybe what I should have gone for is that the refs were being somewhat consistent for both teams as opposed to the one (and only …)

  15. Wolf74 01/12/2009 at 7:24 AM #

We need to recruit some athletes. I went to a Junior College game yesterday and they had more athletic players that we have. They also played with emotion.

Lowe has had time to establish recruiting. The players he brings in this time MUST be players. Otherwise, it is time for some assistant coaches to find another place. If things don’t change shortly thereafter, it will be time for Lowe.

Fortunately we have a level headed AD that wants to win so he can keep receiving a paycheck so we don’t have to worry. HA!

The Wake UNC game was incredible to watch. Hard fought game.
Wake is scary good. Great guards and terrific big men.
We are not even in the same universe as these two teams.
McFralane punked Tyler “the will” Hansbrough and Teague punked Ty ‘the jet” Lawson.

And Guadio is a much better coach than Prosser.

it is absolutely hilarious to read all these posts laying out detailed lineups for 2011 or 2012 and positing that because all those players are better than our current players, therefore we will be a better team. Folks, wasn’t Courtney Fells a top 50 player? The fact that we have some guys coming in that were good in High school means absolutely nothing until they get on campus and we see how they do in the college game. I guess this is a common human psychological reaction: cope with the bleak present by dwelling on an unrealistically rosy future. NC State fans are like the poor widow who can’t pay the rent, but keeps buying lottery tickets because some day she’s going to strike it rich.

We now have lost 10 gms in a row in the acc, when does it end?

  19. kyjelly 01/12/2009 at 8:53 AM #

2012? Heck I hear tell Sid really has a great class coming in 2022.

  20. TOBtime 01/12/2009 at 8:59 AM #

Way to go holes! And was hansblow really crying about teams getting physical? Hilarious! Let the pansy blue screaming begin! Maybe Chris the heel can explain what’s going on with the yet-to-be crowned national champs.

  21. Alpha Wolf 01/12/2009 at 9:10 AM #

All I can say is that last night really underlined the gap between us and the good programs. Either Wake or Carolina would have beaten us by thirty if not forty points.

Choppack1, if you’re referring to Wake’s players you have to be kidding me, with regards to guys being lightly recruited. Look up the player rankings for the 2006, 2007, and 2008 classes, which form the back bone of Wake’s team.

McFarland’s a three star recruit, but the other major contributors are all four and five star guys.

  23. Alpha Wolf 01/12/2009 at 9:26 AM #

^ Yep, that’s true. That was a heralded and highly sought corps they brought in over there.

  24. frankiepack 01/12/2009 at 9:36 AM #

^ A novel idea all individuals but molded into a team??
