Congrats on your impending marriage Jeremy. Come to think of it, watching Wolfpack basketball is a lot like pre-marriage counseling — a lot of promises and then no show…

“But ____________________(please insert the past or present coach of preference here) found something he likes and he’s going to stubbornly go with it, no matter how many games we lose because of it.”

It’s hard to understand, but this is NC State that we’re talking about, and things just don’t E V E R seem to change too quickly around there.

    “pre”-marital counseling

    ???

Admit it, you were thinking about the honeymoon, the BB game, or something else the whole time.

It’s not until AFTER, that’s when you’ll need anything like that anyway.

That’s when you’ll really become, and I mean a bug-eyed, blinking like a goof ball who doesn’t even know what world he’s now in, you know the Tyler Hansbrough type and caliber, of a listener.

JK, JeremyH, good luck to you!!!

I dont think we can blame Sidney for the poor point guard play But we CAN blame him for offering them the chance to play at NC State. I think we would be better off just having Fells run the point

  5. Rick 01/10/2009 at 5:09 PM #

I am not as upset in this one as the last. We got beat by a better team.

“I think we would be better off just having Fells run the point”

    Well, alrighty then…

I am still not willing to totally blame Lowe for this crapola. He has made some mistakes thus far for sure, but when the older players aren’t out there setting an example by it giving their all, it just sets a bad tone for the rest of the team. Some will argue that that is ultimately the coach’s responsibility, but he can’t make them want it for the entire 40 minutes, any more than they want it for themselves. I am also wondering if that isn’t possibly why Lowe seems so deadset on constantly shaking things up by inserting different faces into the line up?

Where is shoostingguard??? I’d really like to know what he is thinking about right now.

“I think we would be better off just having Fells run the point”

If you mean “I think we would be better off just having Fells sit the bench” then you are correct

    TURNOVERS TURNOVERS TURNOVERS….
I truely believe we had a chance to win if we could limit turnovers. The gaurds look like they dont want the ball in thier hands. Sidney used to be a point yet he cannot recruit or teach the ones he has. Give them confindence. I hate to say it but it seems like the basic skills of basketball is what kills us. Passing and dribbling are two things we cannot do, and Sidney does not do anything about it. He never gets fired up at the players when there doing good or doing bad for that matter. COACH the players even if you have to take them out to prove a point. I just dont see why everyone jumped on Sidney’s bandwagon so soon…..

I simply LOVE the argument that we shouldn’t be too upset, since we weren’t supposed to win anyway.

By that logic, we could remain the laughingstock of the league for eternity, and we should be OK with every single ACC loss… since we were supposed to lose anyway.

This is Clemson, folks. If they have a better program than we do, which they obviously do, therein lies the problem.

Hey, I just logged in, wanted to say, I kept looking for the coach to pull a 12 year old kid from the stands and stick him in the team huddle and ask him if he could hit a lay up…….I saw a very lazy team in the first half, so I shut the televison off and did some yard work………….

  11. Packster 01/10/2009 at 6:17 PM #

Some real questionable substituting in the first half of this game. Has anyone besides me noticed that anytime we tie the game Sid takes starters out? He needs to play the first 5 more and just leave Javi on the bench.

  12. Packster 01/10/2009 at 6:28 PM #

Also….we are just way too causal and sloppy protecting the ball. Costner has real offensive talent but lacks heart….and I just don’t know what has happened with Mac.

  13. JEOH2 01/10/2009 at 6:54 PM #

Turnovers are our most obvious changeable burden…but what we really need is passion and leadership…

Since Julius Hodge graduated we haven’t had a passionate, take-no-plays-off leader that actually wanted the ball in the game’s most crucial minutes…you can’t necessarily blame these guys, because that’s frankly not in their personalities…but we need a player to step up in that role…if not a coach…

  14. redfred2 01/10/2009 at 7:07 PM #

^If there is going to be any kind of sudden turn around, it will be because Lowe concentrates on recruiting a strong interior presence. Someone who has the drive as well as possibly the ability to set a tone that the others could follow and maybe benefit from.

Oh wait, I’m sorry, that won’t help at all. Lowe already tried that once didn’t he.

    NEEEExxxxTTT suggestion please.

  15. redfred2 01/10/2009 at 7:14 PM #

Something that is not being discussed, is the effect that this very obvious lack of team leadership is having, and will continue to have, on the development of the players who have recently come into the program.

  16. Afterglow 01/10/2009 at 7:16 PM #

No doubt turnovers were unhelpful but shooting 21% wasn’t good either.

As for Lowe’s rotation, I wonder if he’s just doing this for down the road play-otherwise I can’t understand the reasoning. It seems disruptive; I think that’s why we’re so inconsistent across the board. I hope he starts to get into a regular rotation soon but I kind of expected to see that already.

I didn’t expect us to win this but I did expect to see some semblance of a team start to form-even while losing. They-as stated before-play scared. But I even wonder if it’s more just being unable to get into a rhythm.

Anyone have soul they would be willing to transplant?

  17. Afterglow 01/10/2009 at 7:21 PM #

Yeah, leadership but-how can you step up if your not on the court? The more I think about it the more I wonder if these substitution patterns are what’s killing us.

    Daily Update:

I feel exactly the same way. . . it is much less painful/frustrating to just be indifferent. . .

as far as Sid’s questionable sub-ing, my guess is he is trying to get these yahoos some experience in order to build a little depth. . . it seems to be a total act of futility, however!

  19. TheCOWDOG 01/10/2009 at 7:35 PM #

Cowdog lost his password and after a week of not getting a new one from WordPress, he took matters into his own hands and comes back in the third person.

Look, I’ve said before and I’ll continue pointing this out to all the guard bashers. We had 18 TOs today, again, as in the previous 3 losses, 6 over the acceptable coach speak line of demarcation. As in our previous losses the frontcourt accentuates itself with a minimum of HALF of them! In fact, this is the first time in 4 losses that the backcourt matched our frontcourt with ball security ineptitude.

I’ll say this once more too, those 3 frountcourt guilty parties are supposed to be the heart of this team, at least by expectation, certainly not by demonstration. I’ve been on this soapbox for a long time.
These 3 are UNCOACHABLE. Period. And Lowe’s only alternative is to let the younger guys play, give the trio a minor role and get on to the future. A move like that ultimately tanks any hope for this year, but come on, does anyone see McCauley,Costner and Fells rise up and carry this team?

Noah, from your previous search for people uncommitted to calling for Lowe’s head or lending good reason to retain him,I submit let’s see what we have after the turnover. Ironic…the word.

But I damn sure have my eye on the Mayan calendar

  20. NCSU84 01/10/2009 at 7:41 PM #

Is it football season yet? Oh, I forgot, football season just ended. Damn.

  21. buttPACKer 01/10/2009 at 7:44 PM #

2012, is that what you mean COWDOG? isn’t that when the Mayan calendar ends, and thus the world, and with it–mercifully- NC State BBall?

  22. redfred2 01/10/2009 at 7:46 PM #

    Afterglow,

Please tell me which player(s) you are refering to as far as being unable to cement their role as the team leader, because of a lack of PT?

  23. buttPACKer 01/10/2009 at 7:47 PM #

I don’t think Prometheus–to jump from one ancient culture to another–endures the suffering, endless suffering, of a Wolfpack BBall fan. . .

  24. TheCOWDOG 01/10/2009 at 7:57 PM #

Absolutely b’Pack’r. If Sid doesn’t get it done by March of 2012…all and I mean ALL bets are off 🙂

I have to agree with a lot of the posts on the board. We lack AGRESSION offensively and defensively. We let EVERYONE we play dictate to us. For once, I would like us to do something where the other team has to adjust to us. Count on this team to be pressed the rest of the year until we figure out how to bring the ball up the court and then attack the basket. When we did beat the press and cross midcourt, we just slow down and pull the ball back out instead of attacking. You have got to make the pressing team pay or they will never quit pressing you. Quit playing so freakin TIMID!!! Horrible substitution patterns. We should never bring in multipe subs, never!!!! Sid take a lead from Roy, substitute in the first half, settle on your best after halftime. Is it just me or do we NEVER create any turnovers with our nonagressive defense… GEEZ!!
