Birmingham Sheraton (Team Hotel) No Rooms, except for the ones with the WPC package. Embassy Suites has rooms, you can get a discount if you go to the Papa Johns Bowl Offical Website.

    WPC travel packages= Rip-Off

  3. packalum44 12/08/2008 at 3:36 PM #

Packfns: I thought so at first. However, if you get the non-team hotel throught the WPC, it is cheaper than getting it seperate. Not to mention all the good hotels near the stadium and downtown area are booked.

packalum44: Actually it’s not cheaper to get the non-team hotel through the WPC. I just got my room at the Embassy Suites on-line. You can go to the Papajohns.com Bowl website, and get a discount on your room. It comes out cheaper than WPC non-team hotel package.

I’m sure there are some good trailer parks down there. Haha, for my Dutchman 5th wheel that is! Should be cheaper than a hotel, and on site tailgating! If anyone else explores that route please share your findings.

I know that this is completely off topic, but do y’all realize that not only are we in the running for John Wall, not only are we in the running for Derrick Favors, but now according to rivals.com we are in the running for…get this…Demarcus Cousins.

    Holy shit!!!

    ^ All cool names.

Not to sound pessimistic, but if I could put together a list of names we were once in the running for, I would have a great head start on an all-time all-NBA team.

Trick is to get their names on an LOI.

Hampton Inn Tutwiler, downtown, still has rooms. Appears to be a couple blocks from the team hotel on the downtown side on the interstate.

Anyone else had a bait and switch problem with Premier Travel? Ordered a room. Got it and a confirmation for the Wynfrey. Get a second email saying that I’ve been confirmed at the Mariott.

    I’m pretty piped.

The same side of the stadium seating is going to be kinda weird. Seems that both teams fans are sitting on one side. However according to the bowl website, you can get tickets on the “other” side on the 40 yard line. I need 6 tickets, priority only gets me 4, so I may have to get tix through the bowl. I hate to do that. Always like to support the WC. Does anyone know a way I can get 6 together through WC? I do have 4 kids, so I’m thinking I may beg to keep me together and not break up the family. Also, I wonder which team will be on the “other” side.

“you can get tickets on the “other” side on the 40 yard line…. I hate to do that. Always like to support the WC.”

Yeah, and I’d like the WPC to support me. Bought through the WPC for the Gator Bowl. Sat in the cormer, up high, about 15 yards past the end zone. We were hawked tickets on the 40 yd line coming thru the parking lots to the stadium. What’s a girl to do? Support the WPC and piss and moan about empty seats you can see between the 40s?

It was great to be there but what lousy seats. Never again with my WPC priority. The bowls hose the WPC, sending blocks of shit for seats.

Team hotel was switched from the Wynfry to the Sheraton.

I can echo that story, except we were on the ten yard line two rows from the top. It was cold and windy up there, and the Sherpas had to take some of the folks back down to Base Camp because they were getting altitude sickness.

The worst part was the people in airliners looking up at us as they circled the airport.

What ticked me off was that I could have bought tickets downstairs on the 35 yard line from the Gator Bowl folks. We checked and decided to go through the WPC because we wanted State to get the credit for the ticket sale.

Alpha – to be fair — the WPC allots bowl seats based on WPC member ranking. The better your ranking — the better seats you get. Sadly, the allotment process has a mix of good and bad seats.

You are right that the system is flawed. The allotment process puts each schools fans in one section rather than allowing access to other (better) seating (usually reserved for locals).

Surely it makes more sense for each team to have a “side” but it makes sense to let folks pay a higher ticket price for the better seats near but not in a schools allotment area which is a nice free market concept and would be more profitable for the Bowl.

They could always out a check box to denote that the ticket is for X school’s fan.

    tobaccordshow:

The same thing happened to me. The Marriott is much further from the stadium I believe. Wonder if we can cancel.

    Packfns:

Thanks for the information. I will try to cancel and go through their website. The Marriott is not what I signed up for anyway.

Just ordered my tickets through the WPC, I’d rather be in a section of nc state fans and in a corner than somewhere else personally…

Last time I checked the embassy suites still had rooms available.

  17. LRM 12/09/2008 at 10:46 AM #

Anyone see anything about how many ticket’s we’ve sold?

  18. VaWolf82 12/09/2008 at 11:19 AM #

Yawn. Wake me up when someone committs…and then remind me again when they actually suit up for the Pack.

I have exactly zero interest in following the latest utterance from a 16/17 year old kid. Luckily for those that like this type of non-news, the internet has plenty of places to go for this.

  19. LRM 12/09/2008 at 11:24 AM #

    VaWolf,

Exactly. I’ve seen far too many Damien Wilkins and far too few Philip Rivers, so I don’t pay any attention to recruiting. After all, no one hangs banners for the best recruiting class.

Just got an email from a friend that Russell Wilson is talking to WPC members on the phone to try to get them to buy tickets to the bowl game. Russell said that if my friend couldn’t make it, the football team will be having an open practice Saturday Dec. 20 from 4:00-5:30 at Carter Finley.

    Anyone going to the practice?

  21. Alpha Wolf 12/09/2008 at 3:43 PM #

^ A live or recorded call?

  22. PackBacker001 12/09/2008 at 4:22 PM #

Live. He said the caller handed the phone off to Russell.

  23. highstick 12/09/2008 at 4:42 PM #

LRM, yes they do hang banners for that! Haven’t you noticed the new National Chanmpionship of Recruiting banners that they are haning in the Deandump?

By the way, I love the way the media still keeps referring to our “mythical” State championship! If you don’t detect the slur, then you’re not paying attention!

  24. EverettBeez 12/09/2008 at 8:47 PM #

Highstick, a carolina guy came up with this state championship, so it has to be mythical. Just like when you can’t actually be the basktball champ (which goes to the winner of the tourny) you invent a new championship to claim, regular season champ. But when you play in the dome of the dead, you got to hang a lot of material up to absorb the sound of silence.

I’ve stayed at the Marriott downtown. Typical convention hotel. It was under renovation at the time. Sever shortage of elevators, and the atrium was really poorly lit. Its on the other side of the freeway from downtown, but the on ramp is right there so you can whip out to Legion. Not a lot to walk to though.
The SEC offices are around the corner, and I think they have a museum.

I’ve also stayed at the Hilton on HWY 280 & I-459. there is a sports bar and a large shopping center with several restaurants across the parking lot from it. It is a drive to Legion, but probably only 20 minutes tops.

I think we can all agree to this to one extent or another. However, just the fact that these kids have interest in our program is more than Herb could do. So it is refreshing news if only in passing.

Sidenote: I remember meeting Herb at a graduation once and thought to myself, “What kind of kid would be impressed by him? Who would possibly want to play for him? He is very dry and…yawn…boring” Whatever, he’s gone. We have a better recruiter and a better paradigm (as Herb used to refer to his coaching strategy). If nothing else, he leaves the cupboards less bare and Lowe’s vacancy is more enticing than what Lowe inherited.
