Irving as honorable mention? I guess the injury had an effect becauset there is no one in the ACC more important to their defense than he.

Yeah, I kinda think Nate got screwed. . . His importance to this team is immeasurable.

I’m surprised Andre Brown didn’t at least get an honorable mention at RB. Nate would have been a lock for 1st team if it weren’t for his injury and several weeks out. And Willie Young only played his way to honorable mention with his work the last half of the season. T.J. kind of faded from view after everyone stopped kicking to him. Too bad for him. But as his production on kickoffs and punts dropped, his production at receiver picked up.

Beat me to it, Wolfpbluff…I thought Brown deserved at least an honorable mention considering his transformation into a North-South power back.

That and no one from our OL. Jerrail McCuller pops into my head as one who may have deserved more than he gets.

I forgot to say…Congratulations to Russell Wilson! Even being out or ineffective the better part of the first 1/3 of the season, he has outlasted and outshone everyone else for sure.

When do they announce POY and ROY?

I’m not sure why Dwyer (GT) was unanimous and RW is not. I think this means that this is how the voters will go in ROY voting as well. To me, Fr QB is much more impressive than Fr RB.

    from ESPN.com stats

    Dwyer
    190 carries, 1328 yards (7.0 ypc), 12 TD

    RW
    (pass) 139/252 (55.2%), 1769 yards, 16TD/1Int
    (run) 108 carries, 342 yards, 4TD

I imagine that you would have gotten good odds at the beginning of the year on a bet that Wilson and T. Lewis would be the all-acc QBs.

“To me, Fr QB is much more impressive than Fr RB”

For this reason I expect Wilson to get ROY.

I think we can expect great things out of Nate Irving and Willie Young in next year’s defense after getting only honorable mention. A rookie QB is harder to succeed in than rookie RB at GT. It’s not like they have to pick-up blitzing schemes for passing protection in that offense.

850’s formatting is quite hard on the eyes, but if I’m reading it correctly, Russell Wilson is the only freshman to make first team. He has more than three times the votes as Thad Lewis, too (when we weren’t sure Wilson was even going to win first team). Pretty damned impressive!

I would not take Dwyer’s recieving a unanimous vote at running back as an indication that he is a shoe in for POY, just that he was clearly the best running back in the league this year, and in that offense you could just about incert any talented back and get similiar results. I would imagine that in a head to head comparrison not position specific, that Wilson would get more recognition for what he has acheived this year. Dwyer’s 7.0 yards per carry is impressive, but I think that Russell averaged more YPC in addition to having about ten times more responsibility. 😉 No disrespect intended to Dwyer.

I’m convinced that you could insert any reasonably talented QB into this year’s NC State offense and have easily gone 3-9. 🙂

We ended up getting some great work out of our OL and RB’s this year but Russell MADE this offense. Kid was amazing.

RW absolutely deserved it, and I don’t know anyone that would make an argument otherwise. The fact that he didn’t really contribute in September will likely keep him from being the POY.

Nate didn’t get screwed. He only played nine games, so that hurt him. Tauiliili led the ACC and was second in the nation in tackles, while Curry and Herzlich both had more tackles, sacks, and tackles for loss than Nate, while Herzlich had six interceptions with two pick sixes. If Nate had played healthy all season, it would have been a different story.

Dwyer deserved it, and Andre Brown only had 728 yards rushing, and only had a single 100-yard rushing game (S. Carolina), so honorable mention would have been a stretch.

As for the O-Line, what a transformation from last season, and even that South Carolina game. But I don’t think any one of them really stood out, which is probably exactly the type of line TOB is trying to build, and I’m just fine with that. O-line might be an unappreciated unit, but people that know football realize that RW didn’t create all that time to throw on his own.

Where did the post on the New Raleigh story go?

That is definitely the most idiotic piece I have ever read.

Heard on TOB show that RW was the first QB in the history of the ACC to be named All-ACC.

  16. MatSci94 12/01/2008 at 8:15 PM #

That formatting is really bad, but I count 3 Fr on the entire list (1st,2nd,HM)

Wilson, Graham, and Darren Evans (VT-2nd Team RB)

RW is only going to get better. Congrats to him and the team on turning around the season.

    Congrats Russell and Pack!

    Well deserved!

Wonderful job Russell. Can’t wait to see Glennon some next year after Russell has dissected opposing defenses in the first half! We’ll have the 1st and 2nd team quarterbacks!

I’ll take Nate Irving over any linebacker in the ACC and any that I’ve seen play this year. Kid is special. Future first round pick. I also truly believe Russell could have a future in the NFL, despite being 5’10”. He’s way better than Jake Delhomme, I can tell you that much. Kid is good!

Congrats to Russell for a stellar freshman campaign. What a pleasure it is to finish out the season the way we did. Now lets get in a bowl, win one more and look forward to a great 09 season!
