Route 40+1 Runs Through Chapel Hill (NC State 41, UNC 10)

Boxscore |

Quick thoughts:

-N&O: Pack routs Heels, 41-10
-ESPN Video: N.C. State Pins Upset On No. 22 North Carolina
N&O Photo Gallery
-TOB 2, BMFD 0
-UNC: Was that last TD by State really necessary?
-A Dick Sheridan style UNC ass whipping
-ACC Records: NC State 3-4, UNC 3-4
-Total yard NC State 470, UNC 196
-Turnovers: UNC 6, NC State 0
-Wilson: 17-28, 279 Yards, 2 TD’s

Just say it over and over again. 41-10.

The game was not as close as the score indicated. This would really hurt poor Butchie, if it wasn’t “just another game” for him.

This was our Super Bowl today. This might be the last moment of glory until next September, but the smile ain’t leaving my face.

Also – this quote off the SI.com site captures it the best: “The Tar Heels played so badly they heard scattered boos late in the third quarter from the same fans who ultimately headed for the exits early. ”

I would say it was a bit more than scattered.

    Stay classy!

    I may never go to a State-Carolina game again….

Cause everytime I do, we lose! Staying at home, watching on TV, and us beating them is much sweeter!!

My State flag is flying from the front of my house for the next few days!!!

“kudos to Owen Spencer for his TD”

And kudos to RW for throwing to him again.

GaWolf & others, thanks for your “at the game” observations.
Wonder if the booing will make the N&O.
I’m having one hell of a day, State blows them OUT, and Ole Miss wins nicely. Yes, yes, party time, Yes, yes party time. 🙂
    Go Red Raiders

“When the Wolfpack’s hungry, we eat.”

Now that we have the game against the goats in hand, Guns Up for the Red Raiders!

The icing on the cake would be if Stuart Scott had to roll the hightlights on SportsCenter!

I thought about the 88 and 89 blow outs immediately after the game. Sweet, sweet memories. So nice to beat them at their place. Their fans sense of entitlement makes them delusional. We have more work to do, but tonight enjoy being the best in NC. Not a small feat. Think where this team was at the beginning of the season. We are now playing well and a very confident bunch. Kudos to TOB and the staff for pulling everyone together. What a great day!

wral.com has great videos of game and press conferences. Shaun Draughn says he still thinks the tarholes are a better team. Its a must see just to see his face and excuses. Great job today TOB and staff. You scared me a little bit Owen, but very proud of George Bryan and O. Spencer representing the Cape Fear area. I cant stop smiling and cant wait to see my coworkers Monday.

I don’t know if it was because those majestic pine trees surrounding the stadium, but there is no doubt that the BOO’s in Kenan weren’t just isolated, they were very loud and clear. If it isn’t brought up on in the N & O, it damn sure should be. Those powder blue BOO’s came from a home crowd who were watching one of their own, and a previously injured QB who had just been reinserted back into the starting lineup as of T-O-D-A-Y. That is not even close to the circumstances that had occurred prior to the N & O’s disparaging report on the NC State fans earlier in the season.

Will it be mentioned in that fish wrapper of a newspaper though? Hell no.

I’m glad I was there sitting in the middle of all the tarholes! Great game, great for recruiting, and great for all of the real State fans who didn’t say we were going to win 2 games this year!

In TOB’s post game interview he mentioned “Curtis” hasn’t lived up to being an NC STATE football player and isn’t part of the team anymore. Does anyone know what Curtis’s last name is and what he did? Thanks in advance

    Go Pack!!!!

  12. st8family 11/22/2008 at 8:55 PM #

    Butch Davis = Chuck Amato

    At a basketball school.

  13. Noah 11/22/2008 at 9:05 PM #

Does anyone know what Curtis’s last name is and what he did?

Curtis Crouch. One of the biggest wastes of talent of all time.

I think the diplomatic thing to say is that he didn’t buy into Obrien’s way of doing things.

I don’t think we can say too much about the booing of Yates – I know that we have done the same with our QB problems (Stone/Evans). However – the booing did not surprise me coming from a tarhole whine and cheese fanbase. Today has been a great day for our fb and bb teams. It seems that the football team showed up at Reynolds today during the bb game – which I really loved! It’s nice to have our teams supporting each other.

The wral tv web feed was great! And thanks for providing the link to the unx chat forum. I too laughed when the color announcer thought it would be “classy” to not score. WTF. It’s a football game. They had just said how we were ABC fans – and then they think we should not score – whatever.

  15. redfred2 11/22/2008 at 9:14 PM #

Speaking of Chuck Amato, and conceding the fact that there is a problem with overall depth on the roster, but I was just waiting to see if anyone was going to comment about how the CURRENT roster performs when healthy? Anybody gonna break down and give old Chucky Boy some credit for at least having the ability to spot talent in certain areas?

    I didn’t think so.

  16. redfred2 11/22/2008 at 9:23 PM #

You wouldn’t know it by listening to the announcers, Butch Davis’ and unc’s problems were more attributed to the players, or rather to certain individuals, but unc got B E A T by a better prepared, better coached football T E A M today, plain and simple.

  17. Wufpacker 11/22/2008 at 9:27 PM #

^^ He was an assistant football coach for what? Twenty-something seasons? And then a head coach for seven seasons? I would certainly hope that he has some ability to spot talent in football players/recruits.

His inability to get those players to play sound, fundamental football, to play as a team, AND ESPECIALLY keep them from making stupid errors/penalties at inopportune times was more his problem than recognizing talent.

Well, that and the inability to keep a staff around.

  18. redfred2 11/22/2008 at 9:33 PM #

^Whoa, easy there, I agree with all of that. Just saying that the personnel that CA left behind, which was much maligned earlier on this site, can play FB when healthy.

My God, what a truly epic day. I have been following football since I was about 10 years old, almost 18 years ago, so I have no recollection of the 48-3 and 40-6 shellackings. Today was a day I will never forget. This was not one of Mack Brown’s 1-10 teams either. This was a team still in contention for a conference championship…and we utterly SHIT canned them.

Simply stated…we beat the ever living hell out of those boys today. We were more prepared, more motivated, and honestly, more talented than them today. Somebody brought up the play where we called the Nicks reverse. We were ready for everything they threw at us. Hell, if our guys could catch the damn ball on a consistent basis, this game would have been 63-10 easily.

I am so damn proud of TOB, RW, and our entire team. I’m not sure I could enjoy a game more than today’s. We looked like a damn good football team today. And it couldn’t come against a more deserving bunch. All I’ve heard about is Butch going to UT, Butch getting a raise…well, give that son of a b**** a raise. We’ll continue to whip his ass year after year.

A truly great win for the cause today, and a HUGE victory in the battle of Good vs. Evil.

State Champions and one more to go. I guaran-damn-te you we don’t play like we played against Maryland last year against Miami.

  20. Tar Heel Fan 11/22/2008 at 9:34 PM #

Congrats to the Pack. Your guys showed up today, especially Russell Wilson who lives up to the hyped. It is painfully obvious UNC stopped playing football after beating Georgia Tech. So enjoy the leg up for the next year, you definitely earned it.

Check out this iq add I got at the bottom of Dinich’s article on the UNC/State rivalry, I almost feel out my chair!!

    “Avg UNC Fan’s IQ = 102

Are You Smarter than the Avg. UNC Fan? Take the Fast IQ Test Now!”

    The answer is….yes.

  22. redfred2 11/22/2008 at 9:42 PM #

    Thanks Tar Heel Fan.

BTW, you weren’t one of those terrible BOO’ers were you? I’d hate for you to get taken to task for the same kind of stuff that us lowly Wolfpack fans do.

  23. CStanley 11/22/2008 at 9:46 PM #

I guess it’s fitting that I went back and You Tubed all of Sheridan’s late 80’s/early 90’s victories over UNC. Today’s game brought back a lot of good memories and was almost nostalgic in the way we pushed their ass around all day.

Russell Wilson is an amazing young QB. His biggest problem…those around him not rising up to his level of play. Once they do that, we will be a VERY dangerous. team.

  24. redfred2 11/22/2008 at 9:47 PM #

“I almost feel out my chair!!”

Um, is that legal in this state?

  25. turfpack 11/22/2008 at 9:57 PM #

As a H.S. coach in the Raleigh area – the job that TOB his done
this year with the injurys, young players, very little depth, playing of walkons, and with only 40 to 50 players -is one hell’ve job
    He’s my COY
RW is my ROY and POY
Also -all the coaches I know across the state really like coach TOB.
    This can’t hurt recuiting either.
Most coaches think he’s going to build a powerhouse in Raleigh.
