New D.C. bowl has N.C. State on its radar

May said the EagleBank “would love” to have N.C. State, in part because the bowl would be only a five-hour drive from Raleigh and would be accessible for Wolfpack fans. He said the bowl expects Navy to bring a strong crowd. Of course, Tom O’Brien’s status as an alumnus of Navy certainly doesn’t hurt the story line.

ESPN”s Heather Dinich has gone so far as to predict that the Wolfpack will represent the ACC in the EagleBank Bowl (link).

NC STATE

Why they’ll make it: Quarterback Russell Wilson. He has been the difference in the Pack’s three-game winning streak. The defense, though, has also been better as NC State has not allowed 20 or more points during the streak. Also, because it’s playing for bowl eligibility, which Miami already has, and again, home-field advantage.

Why they won’t: The defense will struggle to stop Miami’s numerous playmakers, and the Hurricanes will be able to execute a balanced offense against the Pack. Miami is also looking to redeem itself from an embarrassing loss to Georgia Tech.

PREDICTION

NC State will represent the ACC in the Eagle Bank Bowl, and for the first time in conference history, the league will have nine bowl-eligible teams.

There will be at large slots this year. The Big 12, for example, won’t fill all 8 of theirs.

The Pack always travels well and we are on many bowl games radars. Bowls also like teams peaking at the end, which is certainly in our favor. We just have to take care of business Saturday.

As for Miami playmakers wreaking havoc on our D, wasn’t that also supposed to be UNX’s pan for us? I dont remember any player having a big day against us. I remember some games where the D was absolutely exhausted and could not stop someone late, and that has changed as our O has matured and kept the D on the sidelines some.

We shut down the U last year, and hopefully that inspired confidence that we can do it again. I dont think we will lay the rotten egg we did last year.

At 4-4 in the conference, we can be eligible for any bowk but the BCS. The rules state a hgiher bowl can only drop one game in the standings to select a lower team, meaning we could not jump a 6-2 team if we finish 4-4. But we could jump a 5-3 team. I am not saying we would end up in Atlanta or Jax b/c that wont happen, but we would be wanted by the bowls.

“Western Blvd. is like looking up Yasmine Bleath’s skirt compared to College Park which is more like looking up Hillary Clinton’s.”

No comment, I just wanted to see it in print again…

Speaking of bowls, do you think UNX will change its blue hue (rhymes with “who blew” “boo hoo” and “boo boo”) jersey to match the turf in Boise if that’s where they wind up?
