Good Russell Wilson Article From The Richmond Times-Dispatch

If you haven’t run across this excellent article on the Wolfpack’s starting quarterback yet, take a few minutes for a very enjoyable read:

“In the end zone seats at Carter-Finley Stadium, Harrison Wilson III watched his son Russell head right toward him, one snap at a time, a football in his hand — just like those evenings when they’d pass the ball until darkness sent them home.

“This was the moment Harrison longed to experience, and everything looked and sounded perfect, right down to North Carolina State’s band. The Wilsons always loved listening to the bands at games they attended, so Harrison missed hearing the music during the previous two months, when he had to watch Russell’s games on TV in a hospital.”

Russell Wilson may very well take the top spot in my not so long list of favorite NC State quarterbacks. Everything about this guy screams quality.

I’m glad to have him as a representative of my alma mater.

I love it. He’s a role model on and off the field. I’m good friends with a lot of baseball players around the state, and got to hang out with him when he first came to state through a guy from Fuquay-Varina who came up just short of playing ball at State. RW is an incredible talent, with charisma and character to boot.

He IS my favorite State QB…no question. I live in OIB, and my grandpa goes to cardiac rehab with Roman Gabriel (Gabriel is in rehab for wear-and-tear from years of football abuse) in North Myrtle Beach. The man is incredible, but he’s still warped from growing up in 1950s SE North Carolina. I can’t totally blame his social commentary, considering the times he grew up in, and the area as well; but times have changed and he refuses to. Rivers was, of course, a great talent, but there were some times where he could act childish. Wilson, on the other hand, is a complete gamer on-and-off the field. Even when FB season is over, I’ll be first in line for seats to watch him on the diamond. GO RUSSELL AND GO PACK!

It’s incredible to have a player of Russell Wilson and Phillip Rivers caliber in the span of just five years. Wilson seems to be the type of player that people will remember and compare to for years much like Rivers’ was. I’ll hold out judgment until the end of his career to determine who my all time favorite is of the two or any who have gone to State. Hopefully this trend of turning out high character and high quality players on and off the field will simply be expected under an O’Brien reign. Perhaps this is a sign of things to come.

A Carolina blogger, BobLee Swagger describes RW this way, “Russell Wilson is THE Total Package of athletic ability, leadership, character, academics and every other admirable character known to mankind.”

I wondered what BLS could be talking about, “every other admirable character known to mankind.” I think I’m beginning to get it now.

RW could be a detriment in recruiting the bling bling athletes who might feel uncomfortable around a such a leader. On the other hand, the higher character athletes might want to be around Wilson. But wait, isn’t that what TOB wants here? Maybe detriment is inappropriate to describe RW’s influence on recruiting.

I read the article last night and I didn’t really know what to say. All of the attention worries me somewhat. I mean, I am very, very thankful that this great kid chose NC State, but I think maybe we fans had better slow down a bit. It’s like when BobLee said, “known to mankind”, and that’s just it, this is just a kid afterall, let’s allow him a little leeway before we roll out the red carpet and crown him King. He is apparently a great young man, he’s playing great football and hopefully he will continue to do so, but either way, he still doesn’t need the added pressure placed on him by way of NCSU fans who have been known to jump up straight out of the garbage heap, and then immediately start expecting perfection. That’s me included.

Let’s enjoy right now, but guard setting expectations that may be too lofty for ANYONE to fulfill. I think maybe we should catch our breath, and then take it little more s-l-o-w-l-y from here on out.

^I wanted to add the word “against” in the next to the last sentence, but the new format said I did not have permission to edit.

    ???

Guys, I will look at the edit function. I did some pretty major version jumping today and unfortunately, it looks like I need to fix the editor.

On the day after Thanksgiving we really have something to be thankful for in Russell Wilson. What we really should be thankful for is the man who helped him develop into what he is today. “Get up off you butt and come on” is not something you will hear touted as benefitting a child from todays “coddle the kid” philosophy. I heard similiar phrases from my Dad growing up and they came back to me after I left home first for the Army and then for NC State. We should all be thankful for men like Mr. Wilson (and TOB) who WILL NOT accept mediocrity and who understand everyone born male is not a man. The person has to develop into it.

One thing I did notice about the edit box, it shows up on other threads and things I posted even yesterday.

That is going to work out great for me especially. No more getting caught in any lies, and all of my prognostication will be 100% correct(ed). I like that. 🙂

N&O story today by Tudor said Avent said Trestman said (got all that?) that RW was “maybe the most accurate passer he’s ever seen.”

    OMG. OMG. OMG.

I read that twice and still couldn’t believe my eyes. He did say most accurate passer he’s ever seen. I was sure he meant in his class or some other qualifier.
That explains the extremely accurate deep balls that Spencer has both caught and dropped. I also see why TOB wants RW to go for the big throw as well. If I were Beck, I’d have transferred out of here.
