Probably the wrong place for this so delete it, move it or whatever…
In the N&O this morning Chuck Amato had his usual justifications and look-through-rose-colored-glasses comments but one comment stood out:

“Without elaborating, he also said he knew what was wrong with the team in 2006 but didn’t want to fix it in the middle of the season.”

Was he talking about Trestman? That would have been my take on it. I am a Marcus Stone fan and I believe an offense such as the offense that the big Florida QB runs could have been dangerous. How many hits could a DB take like Stone put on the FSU linebacker (Nicholson?) (probably still available on YouTube)

I don’t think Chuch has come to grips with his part in losing all the good coaches he ran through. Assistant coaches is IMO where the rubber meets the road in college football success.

In the last couple of days, I have read several of Amato’s comments on the job he did here, on his abilities as a head coach, on his perceptions of reality and the job he WOULD have done…had he not been unfairly removed from his post.

My conclusion from this reading is: Thank god we fired this man.

Geez Noah… Don’t you have anything positive to say about any coach? 😉

For those who like QB play, Oklahoma-Texas kicks off soon (1 vs 5). It should be a nice rivalry game.

    How about those wahoos!

What happened to ECU? Or is it what happened to UVA? Maybe it isnt such a bad thing we dont play UVA this year lol.

    Abandon Ship!

So much for Stoops beating whiner Brown again. Texas actually looked good in the 2nd half -if you call 400 yds passing and 5 TD passes good. That was quite a ballgame and I was surprised at the inability of OK to run the ball.

  9. RAWFS 10/11/2008 at 5:06 PM #

Texas deserved that win — they found a way to contain an explosive Sooners’ offense and found a way to move the ball almost at will for three quarters.

At the beginning of the game I thought no one in the country could beat Oklahoma. Now I think that the national title race is as wide open as it has been for years.

Just keep Ohio State away from the Title Game.

We need Tennessee to hire Butch away, stat.

Too bad TOB wasn’t here when UNC had incompetents running their program…he could have really cleaned up.

Wouldn’t it have been so sweet to see the officials screw the Heels in the “shadows of the pines”?

I think Butch is getting Bowden’s season that he’d hoped for. Weak schedule and you get a few breaks, you never know what happens!

  12. RAWFS 10/11/2008 at 6:42 PM #

Somehow Carolina withstood the powers of Touchdown Jesus and just barely held on for the win.

Carolina played an outstanding final thirty minutes of defensive football and it carried the day for them.

I did get some hope that the Pack will be able to run on Carolina.

“I think Butch is getting Bowden’s season that he’d hoped for. Weak schedule and you get a few breaks, you never know what happens!”

The “breaks” they got was to Yates foot, otherwise they’d be 6-0.

I’m seeing ol butch slap is at the top the list for TN AND AUburn. I don’t think the pansy heels could outbid either one of those. The holes having a great year could be a blessing in disguise…

^Tubberville came closer to sealing his fate at Auburn yesterday … That is not a great Arkansas team the War Eagles lost to

  16. wolfonthehill 10/12/2008 at 7:35 AM #

^^ If a team can’t withstand a single injury, no matter who that player is, they don’t deserve to be 6-0. So I’m sorry – but that’s a pile or horse manure.

Point 2 – That’s like saying that, if the Pack had Wilson and Baker and Eugene and Hill and Irving and Bowens and James available for every game, we’d be 6-0.

Finally – that being said, uncch DID win last night despite the loss of Yates AND Tate, and that’s quite impressive. At the same time, I don’t believe that last call should’ve been fumble (he had it pinned to his body til he hit the ground, and THEN it came out)… meaning ND should’ve had the ball at the uncch 7 with 4 seconds to go. I give them a 2 in 3 chance of scoring on that last play… and uncch wouldn’t have been “screwed”… they would’ve lost.

  17. RAWFS 10/12/2008 at 7:50 AM #

if the Pack had Wilson and Baker and Eugene and Hill and Irving and Bowens and James available for every game, we’d be 6-0.

If we had a decent offensive line, and a solid defensive backfield, we might be 5-1. Seriously.

glad unc won.acc needed a decent win.win should help their recruitig and that is ok with me.i want ncsu to be competitive with a good teams not only able to beat bad unc teams.

  19. wolfonthehill 10/12/2008 at 10:34 AM #

^^ So except for our weaknesses, we’re a pretty strong team, eh? 🙂

  20. Texpack 10/12/2008 at 11:31 AM #

Oklahoma has been unable to run the ball against anybody this year. Texas will probably not go undefeated, given that they still have Mizzou in Austin and TT and KU both on the road. The Texas/OU game yesterday was a fantastic game. You also have to ask yourself how good the SEC really is after yesterday.

  21. smile102 10/12/2008 at 12:14 PM #

“meaning ND should’ve had the ball at the uncch 7 with 4 seconds to go. I give them a 2 in 3 chance of scoring on that last play”

The odds of a 2 pt conversion are in the low 40%s. From the 7 instead of the 3 would be far lower, so, possible but not likely.

  22. wolfonthehill 10/12/2008 at 1:03 PM #

^ Not given the success that Claussen was having. It’s not a game of random chance… he was hot… the Heels’ defense was, well, on its heels… so you may have your opinion, but I find it more likely than not that, given one more chance, ND scores and wins.

  23. Dr. BadgerPack 10/13/2008 at 11:14 AM #

I’ll throw this in the open thread… The injury Gods have turned their wrath toward Chapel Hill.

Brandon Tate is done for the year (for the record, it’s disappointing to see anyones career end with an injury– but he should make nice money on Sundays if he recovers).

He did not have the ball when he hit the ground. It started coming out while he was on top of the defender. It was a fumble.According to the way the rules read both of those reversals were correct, but why did it take four minutes to see that? Can’t wait for thursday.
