NCSU ends BS of ECU in BCS w/ W in OT

I would love to embed this video from the N&O but the “Old Reliable” (chuckle, chuckle) doesn’t share embed code in their videos. If you watch it, pay special attention to Jarvis Williams’ touchdown catch at about 1 minute and 30 seconds into the clip. WOW! That field-level angle provides a great sense for how awesome that catch – and throw – was.

i hate to hate-on Tysiac again, but i have found the most amazing quotes from players/coaches in other papers. That’s kind of why i wish N&O wouldn’t do a round-robin with their reporters covering the local teams.

Quote by Andre Brown from the huddle before the winning TD:
“Russ (Wilson) came into the huddle and said, ‘We have a good one. Andre put it into the end zone,’” Brown said. “I knew when I heard that, there was no denying that we were going to win this game. They were going to put the ball in my hands, and I’m a senior and I was going to lead this team.”

I try not to get too emotional when i read this stuff, but THAT is the kind of leadership you can’t teach. Imagine a RS-Freshman pumping up a senior!!… In the Huddle in OT!!

    TOB (nuff said):
“The way we played football for 60 minutes made me proud,” State coach Tom O’Brien said. “They played like my kind of team.”

ESPN had a really cool bit of video they showed during the game. It showed the team in fairly casual attire, standing outside the bus waiting to go into Carter-Finley, and there was TOB. He looked like a tourist in europe or somewhere. And the players were just standing there, very calm, and then just as calmly TOB said: “Let’s go” and they went into the stadium. The announcers were saying how it appeared that TOB is genuinely loved by his players and how he has such command over them and a calming influence.

    More quotes

Andre Brown on Toney Baker coming to him before kickoff and saying:

“He came to me and said, ‘Run every play with me on your mind because I would kill to get out there,’’’ Brown revealed later. “And I did that. I ran with Bake on my mind every play today.’’

    Jarvis Williams:
“We haven’t been in that situation, but we practice it all the time,” N.C. State wide receiver Jarvis Williams said. “It was a rival. We couldn’t lose this game. Anybody with Carolina on their jerseys has to go down.”

    And the TOB Era begins……………..

Need to give Mike some love to…what a defense.

“Anybody with Carolina on their jerseys has to go down.”

    That’s just awesome…

WOW! The same team shows up for the remaining games this season we’re going to a bowl. Great job Wolfpack and coaches!

CDC just announced that the injury bug that has infected Raleigh for the past 3 years has officially moved into Chapel Hill. QB TJ Yates is out for the season.

Did anywone notice what was written on Wilson’s armband. “Psalm 91 Trust”. I think the word Trust says it all for Saturday. The coaches trusting Wilson by opening the playbook. Wilson trusting the OL and his receivers. Oh and by the way…Psalm 91, Verse 3: Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the FOWLER, and from the noisome pestilence.

“Anybody with Carolina on their jersey has to go down” should be put up in the tunnel coming out onto the field. I have told people for years that anything with unx in it’s name is stupid looking for a place to happen.
Good to hear the uplifting talk coming from the players and especially how they are playing for EACH OTHER. It’s the same feeling that is so hard to explain to people when you have served in the military – the other guy is your brother and you’ll do anything for him. TOB seems to be getting that spirit into our football team quite nicely.

Side note: anyone who, like me, is an utter insomniac can catch the game at 3am on ESPN. Might also come in handy should you want to DVR it… I’m sure a bit will be condensed as it is in a 2 hour slot, but usually they only cut out crap anyway.

I’m downloading a torrent of it over at tenyardtorrents. The original seeder has logged off, but I’ve got about 65 percent. Hopefully, the complete version will be up later. There were about a dozen people sharing pieces this morning.

Regarding Irving, I think it’s a high ankle sprain.

Regarding Yates, I’m surprised that a broken bone would keep you out the entire season. Four to six weeks seems far more likely.

  11. Mike 09/22/2008 at 8:55 AM #

Is Yates out for sure? I had not heard that, and last I heard x-rays were negative. But I haev just one question – and I know this is a Pack board – WHY OH WHY IS THERE ANY WAY ANY ZEBRA CAN CALL THAT GROUNDING IN THE END ZONE NOT GROUNDING? AND WHY OH WHY DID THEY PUT IT ON THE 2 YARD LINE?

Oops, sorry that was 2 questions. It was a beautiful thing coming into the office this AM. The first thing the Tar Hole fans said was “we were robbed, we took that ball away at the end.” My response was “So, would not have mattered, Paulus would have thrown another INT anyway.” That guy certainly was not ready to play QB, but if he takes after his snotty older brother, he might be able to kick for the Holes.

The ankle sprain NI suffered did look bad on tv, his ankle was essentially leveled by a hurdling McKeen. Walking off the field and trying to go in the 2nd is testament that the man is a warrior on the field. It is a shame because he seemed to be getting better each game and was on the verge of dominating. If its a high ankle sprain then we’re looking at FSU game at best.

Maddux will get better once he watches some film and bangs with the first teamers more. He is a very good player folks,we are extremely fortunatate to get him at State.

The fumble at the UNC game was in no way a fumble. It was like Byers’ non-fumble. The guy grabs the ball and only after the players are down did the defender take it away.

All the coaches deserve a big hand for this one. I noticed that Jason Swepson is the man in the middle of sidline huddles when the offense is on the field, McCallum does the same for defense. It’s great to have well designed schemes by coordinators but it is critical to have intelligent communicators on the field directing the young men.

  15. Ismael 09/22/2008 at 10:02 AM #

That phantom fumble would never have happened if the refs had got the INTENTIONAL GROUDING IN TEH END ZONE. The announcers said it was because they were tyring to determine if he was gonna actually get sacked. My explanation woudl involve $$$ and/or incompetence.

I bet Butchy was about to break somebody in half after that game.

SFN, if you view the page source of their page you can snag the embed code. Here it is, if you want it:

    “embed src=”http://media.vmixcore.com/core-flash/UnifiedVideoPlayer/UnifiedVideoPlayer.swf” id=”player_swf” name=”UnifiedVideoPlayer” play=”true” loop=”false” quality=”high” allowscriptaccess=”always” allowfullscreen=”true” wmode=”transparent” type=”application/x-shockwave-flash” flashvars=”player_id=af6181e424b0c9db604997daab05f36c&token=e20da3b66f5fb1bec40be748dd32d0e4″ pluginspage=”http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer” align=”middle” height=”332″ width=”400″>”/embed”

I love that video, too, and had to share it on my page. It was great, and you’re right, one helluva throw and one helluva catch on that Jarvis TD.
