Heading into the 4th quarter, ECU 21-17

* ECU’s second touchdown of the day came on the FIRST play from scrimmage after Nate Irving left the game (probably for good) with his injury. This means that BOTH of ECU’s offensive touchdowns of the day have come when Irving was out of the game.

* Dwayne Maddox, Irving’s replacement, looks lost out there.

* This means that both of ECU’s TDs today have come while NC State’s defense has been without our best defensive lineman (Cash); our best linebacker (Irving); and our two starting safeties (Johnson & Walker).

* The unsportsmanlike conduct penalty called on NC State’s Jamelle Eugene in the 3rd quarter that moved the ball from the ECU 12 was absolute bullshit. Two difference ECU players stayed on top of Eugene while pushing him into the ground with pressure while talking junk. Eugene didn’t even retaliate and got a flag. This wouldn’t make me as mad if I hadn’t watched ECU players bark and taunt so often today while State’s players have definitely turned the corner from the Amato years. I feel like I am watching Dick Sheridan’s boys out there. It is nice.

* Jarvis Williams, and ALL of our wide receivers, have GOT to start catching the damn ball and holding on to it.

* Don’t discount the impact of State’s ball control on offense heading into the fourth quarter. The Pirate defense could be getting tired. State’s offensive line continues to look good.

* I don’t understand how ECU’s wide receivers are allowed to hold on the corners as consistently as they are with no penalties called.
