God Almighty lashes out at State, again. Part MMXIII (Updated 5:10pm)

sigh...

As usual, we State fans “will get nothing and like it!”

Two noteworthy items from this week’s coaches presser:

1. Daniel Evans to start against William & Mary.
2. Anthony Hill is out with a chest injury.

Lord have mercy on our souls. Please.

Additionally, Coach O’Brien has announced the depth chart for Saturday’s game against William & Mary. You will note that Jamelle Eugene is also absent.

This means that in the second game of the season, NC State will take the field without SIX of our twenty-two starters for the year. And, these aren’t just any starters, in addition to missing our two starting safeties the Pack is without its starter at the four primary skill positions on offense – quarterback (Russell Wilson), tailback (Jamelle Eugene &/or Toney Baker), wide receiver (Donald Bowens) and tight end (Anthony Hill).

Congrats to Norm Chow and the UCLA Bruins over Tennessee last night.
Ever wonder what could have been instead?

I’m fine with Evans against W&M and great to sit Eugene, Hill and Wilson (as if he was available). This is a game for the OL and WR’s, IMO. Get your timing down and work on your routes. Larson… snaps baby, snaps. Beck should get some series, no matter how good Evans looks.

Long term, this SHOULD be little more than a scrimmage.

A Hill is out: stinks for the team in that he would have a good game in regards to shaking the rust off more from being sidelined last year. Keep our fingers crossed that he will be back for the brutal stretch of games upcoming.

The upside is Bryan, Kushner and the very young and lightly recruited FB’s will be thrown in on alot of snaps. These position players are crucial in the Bible/TOB scheme, adding Colby at FB and Mario at TE will makes these positions formidable alongside the guys after they are seasoned.

Everyone who visits this site to follow the football program has to shift some if not most of their excitment towards rooting on the development of this young base of TOB players. Pinning all hopes on wins this year, leveling insults at upperclassmates and questioning coaches should be……oh screw it, I’m dreading the terds who sit in my section already.

I think everyone had low exectations for this year, but most were hoping to see vast improvement and were anxious to see what Wilson, Brown, Baker, Hill, Bowens, etc. could do together. This was a development year, a building year. Instead, it’s turned into much of the same as last year, even worse, in terms of injuries.

Hard to get excited when you can’t even field a decent team. Injuries are part of the game, but it’s become the whole game for us the past couple of seasons. We are due a serious break.

I know its sad but I enjoy Tom’s interviews more than the games. His persona seems to have infiltrated the locker room. Our players have been making the most impressive and witty comments. Its almost like they teach you in Business 101, the “tone at the top” sets the mood at an organization. Our guys seem to be more humble and team oriented as well. They defer credit to teammates and coaches. Contra-Amato style.

Mos recent example, comments from Nate Irving:
“I don’t think that we can gain confidence from just the first three quarters. Football is played a four-quarter game. Until we can put together four quarters, we still have a long way to go.”

“I don’t play for the league. I play for NC State. That’s all I can worry about right now.”

Our guys seem to be more humble and team oriented as well. They defer credit to teammates and coaches. Contra-Amato style.

“I was just being in the place I was supposed to be and doing what the coaches asked.”

I also think it has been under-looked. But we didn’t kill ourselves with penalties. We only had one false start.

Here’s my take – I was really impressed w/ how we looked when Wilson was in the game…While the offense didn’t move the ball early, at least we weren’t making alot of mistakes. Defensively, I was thrilled.

When Wilson, I wasn’t surprised w/ how we looked – especially since Evans struggled out of the gate.

The team deflated when DE came in.

“The team deflated when DE came in.”

The phrase “OH NO! We suck again!!” comes to mind…

Even though we failed to score there were plenty of positives from the game. D had 4 picks thanks to the pass rush, Andre ran for 101, Irving played like a fanatic, and Byers impressed. Had our offense put any points on the board in the 1st half the D would have been extra motivated towards the end. Everyone discredits the offense, but we were playing shorthanded against the #8 defense in the country.

Hoping for a solid, mistake free, and dry game this weekend.

    GO PACK!

    here is reason 2014: http://blogs.newsobserver.com/accnow/packs-eugene-out-wilson-questionable

“In what could be a significant loss for the Wolfpack, defensive end Willie Young is questionable with an ankle injury. Young led N.C. State in tackles for loss last season.”

although the part about wilson being classified only questionable is pretty good news.
