Major Tom vs. Visor Boy – Live Blogging (Final Score – 34-0)

A great rivalry is renewed tonight, for all the nation to see in glorious high definition. That said, you are about to witness a major challenge – Tom O’Brien is bringing a knife to a gunfight (thank God he’s a Marine). But we’ll be watching and hoping anyway. Set your baseline appropriately – as long as we get everyone back to Raleigh alive and in one piece, that’s a positive after the week we’ve had.

Depressing fact for the day – South Carolina placed more players on The Sporting News’ pre-season all-SEC first team (4). That’s four more than NC State before everybody got hurt.

My personal prediction is South Carolina 31, NC State 7. And I believe that’s fairly optimistic. See you at 8:00 sharp!

8:17 – offensive offense so far. D looks good, though.

8:36 – Spurrier’s ego and the Pack’s defense keep the game scoreless. There’s no rational reason for SC to pass.

8:40 – If Wilson is playing QB, that would have been a State touchdown. Damn it.

8:48 – Our defense spending way too much time on the field. On the plus side, we just ripped a guy’s helmet off with a hit. Nice.

8:53 – Beecher may be the worst QB I’ve ever seen. Wilson back under center, thank God.

8:56 – Don’t get hurt, Andre.

8:58 – Oh God, Underwood misses handoff and Wilson gets crushed. He’s not moving.

9:01 – I think this is the end of the liveblog. I can’t believe this is happening. Everyone pray with all your heart and soul. Our living room is in tears.

Halftime – South Carolina 3, NC State 0. I’ll update when someone scores, in case anyone is relying on updates.

9 yard TD drive after gruesome Evans pick. 10-0 USC.

I’m going to shift to tape delay now. My apologies, but my heart’s just not in it.

You’ve got to be kidding me. Now we’ve got guys getting hurt walking off the field. And apparently no one took his place in the defensive backfield considering how wide open that receiver was.

Sickening. I still find it baffling that Evans is our best option after Wilson at this point. He is absolutely horrible. Should not be playing Division I football.

Also, nice 6 inch long little boy’s clip-on tie that commentator is wearing.

My bed is much more excellent than this game. later.

As much as I hate Obama bull****, might be more entertaining to listen to his crap rather than watch us get the crap beat out of us. Time to turn the channel.

Enough turnovers to open up a bakery shop. Snakebit with injuries again. Season record 2-10, maybe 3-9.

  6. tvp1 08/28/2008 at 9:48 PM #

fuck me in the fucking goat ass.

put in beck. I mean, he couldn’t possibly be worse.

If DEvans starts the home-opener, I am selling my tickets. As a lifelong fan, between the run-up and the Russell Wilson injury, Evans’ performance might just be the dagger in the heart.

  8. packville 08/28/2008 at 9:50 PM #

at least Beck can throw a longer INT

  9. packer74 08/28/2008 at 9:50 PM #

    Done.

  10. CStanley 08/28/2008 at 9:52 PM #

It would only be fitting to have Beck come in, bring the team to life, and then promptly get injured.

We can’t keep Evans off the field, for some reason.

  11. sf59 08/28/2008 at 9:58 PM #

until we have a decent OL we will not improve

  12. tvp1 08/28/2008 at 10:03 PM #

    Spurrier is a douchebag.

    Goodnight.

Sweet, Good for So.Carolina. I’d run up the score too. We stink. DE is a horrible QB. Should have just let MG take the snaps for experience and play for the next 4 years.

  15. PurplePeopleEaters 08/28/2008 at 10:08 PM #

    News flash: we suck.

I hope to never see Daniel Evans take another collegiate snap. In fact, I’ve been saying that for 2 years.

We get straight up shut out in our opener against a team that was frankly not playing that well until our defense mailed it in in the 4th quarter. Pathetic.

  16. DuPack 08/28/2008 at 10:09 PM #

Some body help me out!! Evans’s throwing motion looks worse than last year. What about the surgically repaired shoulder that was throwing better than ever before? If this play kept him in contention for starter until a week before the first game….sheesh!!!

  17. CStanley 08/28/2008 at 10:13 PM #

    Utter disaster.

  18. Packster 08/28/2008 at 10:18 PM #

Offense is just pathetic. A mediocre team just crushed us.

I was inspired by Obama & Bidens closing song. Very heartfelt. This country is heading in the right direction. State football is heading in the opposite direction. Maybe Im just drunk. Yes, it is that.

It sounds like Wilson had a very mild concussion. With Jamelle Eugene and Wilson back, we should have more punch. Spencer and williams are bound to get better, as will Graham. I just can’t understand why Evans is ever put on the field. Couldn’t we pick up a transfer as a walkon? Otherwise, Evans needs to just hand off the ball in there and be banned from passing.

  21. phillypacker 08/28/2008 at 10:24 PM #

Meabt to say a transfer as a backup

Daniel Evans has sucked for years he was a bandaid when there were no other option. I am tired of his weak arm and poor skills. He was a accidental hero his Sophmore year. Coach is to loyal Russell was hope and by default Daniel got to play again. Beck or Glennon should have played. I am glad the Cocks ran the score up. It felt like the anger I had towards Amato (maybe because its still his retarded recruits.)

Hey guys, I know it looks bad. But USC is likely the best defense we see all year. This year is about experience for young players, and my hope for this game was to be in it going into the 4th, which for all intents we were at 13-0 and Brown running hard. Without the freak injury to RW, we could have been in good shape. We are gonna win some ballgames this year, because aside from Clemson and maybe USF, we won’t see another team that good.
But there was some improvement on D. They were just on the field all night long and our depth is all young.

I’ve said it before, if DE is our QB we go 3-9 tops, I’d rather risk Beck until RW hopefully returns, he at least steps into his throws. Evans will throw off the back foot with that herky-jerky slingshot motion, even on the rare occasion when he wasn’t under pressure.

On the oh S**t side, our OL is a complete wreck. Hopefully Larson can improve, because Barbee is shaped like the Sta-puft man. And injuries, sheesh.

And next year in Raleigh, don’t think that little asshole display in the 4th quarter by the visor gets forgotten. This was a tough game that stretched out due to circumstances. Georgia is gonna wail on those bostages in two weeks, watch and smile when it happens.

And keep the faith, what I saw was a shorthanded team play hard and run out of gas.

I don’t see too many wins on the horizon, so is there any way to give our defense a break, while at the same time give the illusion of playing closer games, as well as creating an illusion of being a competitive D1 program? I guess what I’m really asking is, is there football version of the PO?

  25. phillypacker 08/28/2008 at 10:32 PM #

Spurrier will always be a little b**ch. Let him have his points. He’s still Spurrier and he’s still at South Carolina and his best days are well behind him.
