MU and NC State have agreed in principle to a home-and-home series beginning this season at the RBC Center in Raleigh, N.C.
The series had been in the works for the past month or so, with NC State working behind the scenes to move a guarantee game in order to accomodate MU.
Having recently been able to do so, the Wolfpack will now host the Golden Eagles on Dec. 22 at a time yet to be determined. The contract is expected to be finalized shortly.
I kind of look at playing Marquette as our “Big 10 Challenge” game that we won’t have this year.
It’s nice to play a team with such a historically strong connection to our program – NC State defeated the Golden Eagles, then coached by legendary Al McGuire, to win our first National Championship in 1974.

About a week after we learned of this series the Charlotte Observer decided to run an article about it. The paper’s article on Friday, July 25th did provide a little value as it highlighted a few dates for other games this season.
N.C. State’s 2008-09 nonconference schedule also includes games at New Orleans on Nov.15 for the season opener, against Davidson on Dec.6 at Charlotte’s Time Warner Cable Arena, home against East Carolina on Dec.16, and at Florida on Jan.3.
It is not suprising that the Charlotte Observer’s sister, the N&O ran the same article this morning. Check that. Almost the same article. The N&O’s article actually had a couple of extra paragraphs of relevant information near the end of the story. I wonder why Charlotte chose to omit the extra, but valuable, information?
In 2009-10, N.C. State is scheduled to play at home against Florida and visit Arizona and Marquette. Fowler also expects to get an ACC-Big Ten Challenge home game in 2009-10.
Arizona will visit N.C. State in 2010-11.
