ACC “Hatred Index”

I first became aware of this via link to the Hole board, but it’s still an interesting time waster for a Holiday weekend (with little expected NC State news). Since we are not a message board, we can’t have elimination-style voting. So, just use the comments to list the other ACC teams in order of dislike (1 being the most hated, 11 being the most liked/tolerated). Personally, I have to split the hatred by sport – I mean, who could possibly hate Duke football?

    3. Clemson (I live in the heart of Clemson, and can’t stand their teams or their fans. Ever since they won their football national championship they think that every year since they should have won it again. And in basketball they only pull for their team if they are winning, otherwise they don’t give a shit about bball.)

    Speaking of unc and current events, I believe it was recently deceased, and former Sen. Jesse Helms, who commented years back when asked about funding for the state zoo in Asheboro, “Why don’t we just build a fence around Chapel Hill, everything’s already there.”

    Football most hated:
    1. Clempson, Clemmons or however they want to try to spell it this week.
    2. Anything Orange, including Number 1 above
    3. UNCX

    Basketball:
    1. UNCX
    2. Clempson
    3. Duke

    Let me tell you, friends and neighbors . . . there is a HUGE chasm between #1 and the rest of the list. My hatred of the Holes cannot even come close to the mere contempt I feel towards other teams. So here’s my take:

    1. EweNC
    2. UVA – moved up the ladder after a run-in with their fans at a road bball game in the late 80’s
    3. FSU Semen Holes
    4. Miami
    5. BC – as time passes, I find BC moving up the ladder, too.
    6. VT
    7. UMD
    8. Clem(p)son – Barnes mutual hatred of the Holes improved my opinion. Yea, he’s not there now but those were good times.
    9. Dook – while I often pull for the Dookies as a team, I do find myself wishing some individual players fall into a very large deep dark pit.
    10. GT
    11. Wake – as I really hate many of the fans of other ACC team, I have personally experienced positive good-spirited fun around the Wake fans I’ve met.

    It is really interesting to see all of the different perspectives – many of which are driven my personal experiences with games and definitely dependent upon one’s age and what was happening in their formative years.

    The following is mine:

    Football:

    1. UNC

    But, I have one fascinating admission. Even though I ‘hate’ Duke at a level that rises each year…I still actually pull for Duke over the top 6 or 7 teams on my list.

    Odd, isn’t it?

    Re Duke–yeah, I understand the dislike for them given their level of arrogance here in the late K era, but I remember when they were just another program with no National championships back when they were on par with us. However, it was sort of a guilty pleasure seeing Duke beat the snot out of UVa for like 11 years in a row in hoops after that 41-point beatdown UVa laid on them in the late Ralph Sampson/early K era.
