“If we could get the non-violent drug offenders out, take the criminality out of drug use than we would have plenty of room to put those that commit violent crimes away for a lot longer time. As it is today they let a rapist out before a crack dealer because of mandatory sentences.”

I wholeheartedly agree, there are many many people crowding our jails and prisons, putting a excessive burden on us, the taxpayers that simply shouldn’t be there. Look at Holland…barely noticeable crime rate. They don’t have a “legalized” system, they simply have a more reasonable approach to recreational drug use. At home, designated areas, and so forth. Believe you me, if the US were to follow the same path (and tax it) it would, for one, lessen the burden on the jails (and therefore the taxpayer), and make a sizeable dent in our deficit. Think about it logically.

Lots of opinions and theories on how to handle someone that has committed a crime. Many prisoners are in jail not for getting busted for drugs themselves but for drug related crimes, which a big one is stealing to get the money for the drugs. One reason why a majority of sheriffs and law enforcement experts don’t endorse making drugs legal. The drug users are still going to committ crimes to get the money to buy the drugs.

As far as Lowe II, I guess him admitting he was the one that had the gun and putting himself in greater sentencing jeopardy played a part in myself agreeing with the ruling. Also, the fact that he didn’t let someone else take the fall for what he did, and that is not the norm.

“Lee (Fowler/Todd) Turner, Harris’ attorney(s), said that King assaulted Harris and pepper-sprayed the basketball coach without justification” (but that they were sorry for any inconveinence that Coach Harris may have caused, that they are more than willing to turn over all of his personal records and financial statements to the authorities, and told the authorties not to worry, that they will personally take care of ruining Larry Harris’ coaching career from here on out.)

How often do people steal to get beer money? I’m sure it happens, but probably not as much as it would if beer cost a hundred times as much.

If drugs were more legal (I don’t know if anyone wants to make heroin or crack available at the local supermarket), you would obviously see a drastic reduction in price.

Actually, if pot were legal, I imagine most people would simply grow their own. It’s a pretty strong plant. You just need to learn how to recognize the male from the female and then make sure you seperate them. One or two good plants properly grown would provide a casual user with enough, I’d think. I’ve never grown pot, but I can’t imagine you’d need a field of the stuff.

One of the real problems with the current drug policy is that so much of it is built on a lie. The federal government has been lying to you for most of the last century about the dangers of drugs. During the 40s and 50s, the official word was if you smoked pot, you’d become a violent communist (I’m not making that up) and you’d go on a psychopathic rampage with just one toke. You’d also be hopelessly addicted and there were several higher-ups in the FBI who were often quoted as saying marijuana made people become homosexuals. This was the official government line.

So what happens? A kid takes a drag off of a joint and immediately realizes that his parents, his teachers, his preacher, his role models, his city council, his police, his congress and his president…are completely full of crap. Well, what else are the full of crap about? How about PCP or crack?

And that’s why Sidney Lowe jr. robbed that guy! 🙂

I’d say Noah just summed it all up like the true Carolina Baby blue pot smoking anti govt liberal commie I always suspected he was. You got a van with flowers on it to? And whats up with the homo stuff, you one of those Tar heel boys that got in touch with his gay side while somking pot with your Baby Blue friends? Wow, legalize pot, govt is lying to us…..you riding a UFO while typing this stuff too? But I do have two questions, how do you know the price of drugs? And since when does govt. control equal lower prices?

But great to know you psychic too, cause so far you the only persson that knew what the kid was thinking and why he did it.

    Go back to Franklin Street!

This is a somewhat flawed argument. Only weed has been decriminalized, and Holland is actually rampant with crime. It is right on par with England’s murder rate and the word is lawmakers there are seriously rethinking the legalization of weed.

the victims were selling weed from their apt/dorm and Lowe II and this other guy broke in. the other guy had the gun, but Lowe II was said to have broken a glass bong over one of the vistims heads causing some injuries

Hey…whats all the fuss? This is great news for NC State basketball! Anything that keeps ’em talking about something other than that pathetic team we have is a plus in my book!

    🙂
