Pack Pride vs The Wolfpacker

This is a topic that we have never discussed here on SFN and it is time to get it out there as my premium subscription to Pack Pride has recently expired and I cannot decide if I am going to renew it. I have severely limited familiarity with TheWolfpacker.com because of (1) my historical ties to the old StateFans.com that evolved into Pack Pride and (2) how bad TheWolfpacker.com used to be years ago.

A very quick glimpse of the two sites indicates that the message board community at Pack Pride is significantly more vibrant than the Wolfpacker – but, is the multitude of stupid people and the biased moderation of many of the personal attacks allowed on PackPride worth the ‘vibrancy’?

I am not going to say anything else right now…but, I would welcome some detailed input from the community on what you perceive to be the strengths and weaknesses of each site relative to their content, layout and message board communities.

Thanks!!!

Have subscribed to both for several years. There is certainly a difference in how each one comes across.

Yes, PP is more ‘vibrant’, if that’s what you want to call it. I haven’t visited their monkey boards in a long while, but the premium service is getting as bad as the monkey boards ever were. Of course, the gestapo is responding accordingly. Seems like every idiot with $100 and a keyboard feels obligated to make their mark. PP Chat used to be very good, but it has degraded to the point that it is nothing more than one smart-a** after another trying to out-wisecrack the other. If you’re not part of the ‘in crowd’, you will be ignored. Hard to sort out any useful information anymore. The traditionally good information sources have generally clammed up because many of the subscribers can’t seem to interact like adults. Don’t blame them there.

TWP is certainly a lot less active, but the discussions there seem to be a little more mature. They seem to be more ‘journalism’ driven, whereas PP seems to be more ‘talk’ driven. Both have their positives and negatives; depends on what you like. It is hard to beat The War Room. I feel TWP could be a better site with simply more participation; however, some of the newer members act like PP rejects. Their version of Chat is the pits.

Like others, I will probably let my current PP subscription expire without renewing it. To me, it has gotten to the point that it isn’t worth wading through the crap every day just to find good, objective information. Too many people proving beyond any shadow of doubt that their self-worth is microscopic and shrinking. Unfortunately, to protect their information sources, both sites are becoming ‘official’ websites for the NCSU Athletics Department and are losing their ability to provide independent thought. Sad.

I gave up long ago trying to keep up with recruiting detail, so I can’t provide much feedback about their recruiting databases and navigation. At both, I can find what I need to find if interested, but quite frankly, both Scout and Rivals have become so biased in their own ways that it is no longer fun to dig into it.

This is my site for Wolfpack Sports talk. I have used both of the others as well. I gave up on Pack Pride not long after it developed, I guess, out of the ACCBOARDS community. What used to really piss me off with PP, and I think to some extent Elrod touches on this as well, was when the “gestapo” would delete posts of mine on a regular basis where I shared with free board members information that I received from personal connections that the PP folks deemed “premium information.” I never joined their premium site and never really cared to. More times than not I can get the same, and often times better, information from personal connections, friends, and colleagues. Many of those friends and colleagues have connections that are better and different than mine, and as a collective group we are able to provide each other with a pretty adequate picture of the reality surrounding Wolfpack sports.

While I know those guys are running a business, I think it’s a bit ridiculous that they don’t let others who have information who want to share it with people simply because those others have in some cases better connections than the guys who operate PP.

With that said, I think it’s pretty impressive the growing interest in Wolfpack sports that helps support endeavors such as PP and I do appreciate the effort and product that they put out there. And, honestly, I do peruse PP every so often but with nowhere near the frequency I used it years and years ago.

I like many others received a lot of info in the early 80’s from the wolpacker magazine. How would you compare the PP magazine to it?

I am considering changing especially since most of the information is weeks old during the FB & BB seasons. I still enjoy the recruiting information since I do not have premium subscription to the websites.

    Thanks for your opinions.

    GO PACK!

In the past I have subscribed to both. I think that PP puts move speculative items on their site, and the Wolfpacker is more conservative with their information. I think both boards have writers James Henderson and Steve Williams on PP, Matt Carter and Jacey Zimbal on the Wolfpacker) work very hard at getting information and interviews for each site.

I currently have the Wolfpacker only. I feel that PP allows a lot more negativity on their message boards, so I choose not to subscribe to their premium content.

I’ve noticed some comments about recruiting rankings and interests. I believe that those recruiting list are generated from the National sites (Rivals.com and Scout.com) and have very little to do with the local writers. So true interest levels should be gained by reading the articles, not by looking at the recruiting database (or don’t judge the local writers based on the National information).

Having some access with insight into team actions in football, Usually, none of the info on PP is accurate or is outdated by the time its posted. No experience with the wolfpacker to know or have an opionion. This coaching staff is tight knit and plays everything close to the vest. I’d be surprised if anyone outside the staff had any insight into anything concerning the team

What I noticed in recruiting is PP usually just follows whatever The Wolfpacker does because Matt and Jacey have great info and contacts. Not only will they tell you what each recruit brings to the table, but they also show you with extensive video. Nobody has seen the players more, going out Friday nights in the fall or to hoops games and tourneys, both high school and AAU.

They’ve been with the recruits from ground zero when they first started showing interest in NC State to when they commit. Nobody knew more on Ricky Dowdy, Brian Slay, Scott Wood, Ryan Kelly, Lorenzo Brown, etc. It’s probably why the coaches trust them more.

They are also the only site that goes to every football practice and game, and don’t take days off and don’t hire Technician stringers to write poorly written stuff like PP does.

PP clearly has the big free board, but for the premium users, I think you’ll see more accurate, breaking and entertaining info on The Wolfpacker. And the magazines aren’t even close.
