“Coach” Fowler, Habitual No-Show

Lee Fowler must be a busy man with his fishin’ and avoidance of providing direction or oversight for any of NC State’s various underachieving coaches. He certainly couldn’t be bothered to make his scheduled appearance at the Wolfpack Club caravan in Charlotte. We hear this is becoming something of a pattern for “Coach.”

In any event, the Wolfpack Club booked very nice facilities for the caravan stop – the VanLandingham Estate, which could accomodate 200-250 people for such an occasion. However, only about 150 Wolfpackers showed up.

SFN heard from numerous locals before the event who simply refused to shell out even more money to NC State only to be told the same song and dance regarding our great facilities and Top 5 fans (so wins will magically follow). Also, don’t forget that you are not allowed to express your views in any way other than a private message to the Wolfpack Club or athletic department (which will promptly get a form response and a trip to the trash can or “Deleted Items” folder).

Bobby Purcell filled in for Fowler in Charlotte, FWIW.

State fans are already shelling out significant dollars for very little success in return. Why should they pay extra to have smoke blown up their asses and be talked to in such a paternalistic manner?

“Has anybody from this site bought Fireleefowler.com?”
I thought I was already there.

  2. BoKnowsNCS71 04/17/2008 at 8:43 AM #

So what I am hearing is that the caravans are so meaningless that even the AD doesn’t want to attend them!

  3. packpigskinfan23 04/17/2008 at 8:46 AM #

thread jack: Has anyone heard of Andre Brown getting injured during practice or a scrimmage? Saw him on campus today on crutches and he looked like he was drugged pretty good.

  4. packbackr04 04/17/2008 at 9:04 AM #

i think he re-injured the foot he fractured last yr.. he should be good to go by fall practice

  5. Noah 04/17/2008 at 9:06 AM #

Andre Brown has a broken foot, I believe.

And it’s an ADs job to basically be the MC at these WPC events. He doesn’t have to deliver a keynote address. But he needs to thank everyone for coming, tell a joke or two and introduce the speakers.

I haven’t been to one in years, but I used to go with my father when I was in high school. That’s what the AD always did. Hell, Todd Turner did it.

“If someone not from this site owns it, let’s buy fireleefowler’sass.com.”

That’s the dumbest idea I’ve ever heard.

You know you can’t have an apostrophe in a URL.

    /sarcasm

Speaking of nice facilities. Didn’t the public agree to the intrusive searches on a temporary basis immediately following the 9/11 attacks. Why is it that 7 years later these people still feel it is required to check our pockets, pat people down and rummage through purses in order to protect us from a terrorist threat?

There is no such thing I guess of giving people ‘temporary’ power. People must have forgot about the time when you just showed your ticket and walked in the gate without having your privacy invaded.

  8. BoKnowsNCS71 04/17/2008 at 11:43 AM #

The true reason we get patted down is because of a new terrorist organization called the Jim Beamers. This group threatens a take over of the stadiums and at some time in the future plans to crash an RV or SUV into the gates.

Seriously, it’s always the 1% who make things miserable for the rest of us. A real terrorist with a load of C4 could walk past those Security Kops in a heartbeat. It’s not about security — it’s about alcohol.

“I would really be interested to hear his comments on foul-up’s actions (or lack therof).”

Apparently there aren’t any comments about Lee Fowler on Bobby Purcell’s mind, and the award that Oblinger just handed his AD gives us a great indication of just how out of touch the Chancellor really is.

It’s all about money, along with promoting a squeaky clean image. They really couldn’t give a sh*t otherwise.

“It’s not about security — it’s about alcohol.”

Very true but this isn’t what they say. I’m sure they also get a fair share of pocket knives out of the hands of young people. Personally I would be willing to risk being shanked by a drunk kid than to have the student sections half empty until the end of the first quarter.

  11. Pack92 04/17/2008 at 12:18 PM #

redfred, you’re probably right. That’s why neither one of them gets a dime from me. I am in the unfortunate position of getting back into the WPC to voice my opinion (pay to talk) or stay out and voice the opinion that way (do not pay and hope that gets noticed). Either way, I don’t think I’ll cause anyone to notice no matter what I do or don’t do and that’s the sad state we’re now in.

  12. packbackr04 04/17/2008 at 12:37 PM #

whats really sad is that all of our sports teams are so bad, we have nothing to do but talk about how our AD is no showing WPC club members at events.

  13. LRM 04/17/2008 at 12:53 PM #

For those of you not attending the caravan events, don’t sweat it, you’re not missing anything. I’ve been to a couple and they were nothing near as insightful or interactive as I had hoped — you won’t learn anything you haven’t already read in the Wolfpacker (for anyone that actually reads that rag) or on GoPack.

  14. PAPacker 04/17/2008 at 1:04 PM #

Packbacker, I realized my folly after I sent the email. It should have been fireleefowlersass.com. Again, I will work with anyone who can do the backend stuff to get the page up and going. We should post a concise, crystal-clear rationale for why fowlup has to go, explain specific things that wolfpackers can do to help accomplish this and then watch the thousands of hits and the media attention develop. If it is done well, they will come.

“I thought I was already there.”

Then please feel free to take your worhtless self somewhere else.

  16. PackBacker001 04/17/2008 at 1:45 PM #

Packgrad93 and Rick, you guys obviously have some sort of issue with each other. That aside, I have noticed that PackGrad93 seems to defend, well, “things”, that many here see as detrimental to the University. You know, the last ball coach, Lee Fowler, etc.

Are you just looking for an argument here, or do you genuinely believe that NC State is on track to being an ACC power with a competent administration whose last basketball coach had the program going in the right direction? If you do believe this, I just want to see your evidence for this.

No offense intended with my questions, I just want to see where you are coming from. Sometimes I just don’t see your logic.

Overall how does State athletics stack up to its competition? I’m not too familiar with the non-revenue sports. State does represent well on the PGA Tour.
Does Fowler suck as bad as most think here? Baddour was about to be fired when Roy came along. I have a hard time separating luck from actual performance with AD’s. And the one thing Fowler can get credit for is that O’Brien was hired under his watch, though that still needs to play out on the field. I’ll wait and see on Lowe- many a coach has sucked for at least a couple years and I doubt Lowe is as clueless as his team may have indicated this year. I’m actually optimistic with him. and Sendek left about when he should have- that’s not to say Fowler would have fired him. It worked out as it should have, though maybe Fowler just got lucky that ol’ “Chopping Wood” Sendek quit. I’d be interested in measured thought as opposed to the standard Fowler sucks line.

Have you ever tried to get into a government building run by the State of North Carolina? You’ve got to show a driver’s license. You have to have a temporary ID badge and you have to sign in and out and state your business and go through a metal detector.

YOU OWN THE BUILDING…but you still get to do this.

It’s not liberal, it’s not conservative…it’s the nature of government. All government tends towards fascism because everyone believes that THEIR system is right. It’s why checks and balances are so important. It’s why an organized, vocal opposition is so important.

jt^ TOB fell in Fowlers lap, TOB inquired about the job and the head hunters landed him for us. As a matter of fact, Fowler was pretty much told to stay out of the way and was not involved at all in the hiring process with TOB. so he gets no credit there.
and our overall athletic success has been on a steady decline since Fowler got here. As evidenced by the Sears Cup(or whatever theyre called now) Standings. Someone should be able to provide you a link, but it aint pretty especially with all the money going into athletics.

as for packgrad, he is playing the role of antagonist. he just likes to come on here and rile people up b/c its so easy. state fans want to and deserve to pull for winners. Unfortunatley the admin over the past 20 yrs has made that a tertiary goal behind (1)running “clean programs” and (2)building facilites. so its easy pickins for packgrad to throw in some uninformed tripe and get things heated b/c we as statefans are so hungry to pull for a winning team.

For those wondering about fireleefowler.com I emailed the guy a few days ago and asked him if he would be doing something with it and he said he would. Should be sometime next week.

If people want to help me with the content I can buy FireFowler.com and host it.

“Baddour was about to be fired when Roy came along. I have a hard time separating luck from actual performance with AD’s.”

I don’t believe that “Roy (just) came long” anymore than I believe in the tooth fairy. I have to give Roy Williams credit, he’s smarter than I ever gave him credit for a few years ago. He waited it out and he didn’t try to step in immediately after Dean left. He let Guthridge run his course, then only after Matt D had the program in utter turmoil, did Roy say “Alright already, I’ll come now.”

It probably wasn’t Baddour, but you better believe that some entity of unc’s heirarchy was constantly tugging on Roy Williams ear from the very moment that Dean Smith coached his last game. They might not have known the exact moment, or what it was going to finally take to get him to budge, but they were in touch, and they knew he would be in chapel hill eventually. Roy was simply smart enough to wait it all out.

unc makes it own good fortune. It is a well-oiled machine that doesn’t allow itself to be ruled by circumstances, without tilting the odds in it’s own favor. That would be the exact opposite of a TOB, dropping out of tree, right in the middle of Clueless Lee’s, the Lonesome AD, lap. It wasn’t a matter of “luck” in unc’s case. Just like the coach that they knew all along would be on their payroll some day, they’re pretty smart over there too. They made it happen, they just had to wait a little longer than they may have expected.

  23. redfred2 04/17/2008 at 6:41 PM #

packgrad thinks that if it’s already at NC State, then it’s all you could ever want or hope for.

    Lee Fowler’s illegitimate son maybe?

  24. packpigskinfan23 04/17/2008 at 7:02 PM #

so… I was just watching College Football Live and noticed they have Notre Dame playing at NCSTATE in week 6. Checking their schedule, they are really playing CAROLINA. Now I know ND owes us one since they backed out of one that was supposed to happen about 2-3yrs ago. I also remember that the ACC had NCState and BC playing each other during week 1, according to BC’s early release of their schedule… Somehow that changed. We all applauded that at the time as punishing BC, but did they possibly screw up a chance for us to play ND, and in hand give that chance to UNC? or is ESPN just screwing with my head?

  25. redfred2 04/17/2008 at 7:13 PM #

As far as the security at ballgames goes, what is it that you want them to do?

We can only hope not, but maybe it has to really “hit home”, for it to really hit home with some people. Watch the news, there are enough real lunatics in this country alone, without any need of a political agenda, that I do not mind a minute of my time or emptying my pockets at all. Especially if they can make sure that every other person there has done the same. I don’t consider it a nuisance, but I’d much rather err on the cautious side in that instance either way.

Besides, we scream all day long day about inactivity right here on this site, then when something is done proactively, but it causes us just little bit of a personal inconvience, then it becomes a needless invasion of privacy.

Just let something bad happen and those same security official that you’re talking about will be lambasted and burned at the stake for not doing enough. Just can’t win.
