Wolfpack Finally Finds “Way To Win”

RALEIGH, NC – Just days after a loss in the first round of the ACC tournament ended NC State’s basketball season with a nine game losing streak that ensured a losing record for the year, jubilant Wolfpack basketball players emerged from a players-only meeting and announced that they had finally found the “way to win.”

“Man, I am so relieved,” senior Gavin Grant said. “I mean, nine straight games is tough, especially with everyone relying on me for senior leadership. I’m glad we finally have this turned around.” Wolfpack junior Ben McCauley agreed. “We really had some issues. Now that we’ve talked through them, we feel that we’re ready to take on any team in the country and win.”

Redshirt sophomore Brandon Costner, whose game suffered a noticeable lapse in effectiveness compared to the 2006-2007 season, may be the most happy about the Wolfpack finding the way to win. “It’s certainly been disappointing, losing nine straight games. But we always say that tomorrow is a new day, and I can tell you this: our next opponent is going to have their hands full.” Freshman guard Javier Gonzalez concurred with his teammate: “In my case, finding the way to win meant realizing that turning the ball over to the other team wasn’t really smart point guard play. I mean, that’s the difference between us and, say, Carolina and Duke. We’re just as talented, really, and we’ll show that in our next game now that we’ve found the way to win again.”

Wolfpack freshman J.J. Hickson did not pause to speak with the media after the players gathering broke up, stating only that he had to attend “a meeting with some people” before speeding away in a new Cadillac Escalade with a temporary tag.

Wolfpack head coach Sidney Lowe, notified of the players-only meeting, expressed his gratification. “I must say, though, I’d have been much happier if they’d come to this conclusion during the actual basketball season,” Lowe admitted.

When assistants quietly notified the players that the season was, in fact, over, the team was stunned. “Say what?” Grant said. “But we have this turned around.” Costner too was crestfallen, stating, “Such a wasted potential; we really were finally ready to win. I understand now why the fans were so upset yesterday. Oh, well.”

NC State Director of Athletics Lee Fowler said, “This meeting is just another example of how, under my leadership, NC State is building top-caliber athletic programs. Like some guy once said, never give up. When the ACC thinks ‘champions,’ they think, ‘NC State’. And ‘Lee Fowler’.”

Let me guess – a player slept with another player’s girfriend? ha

Ga^ is the problem of a personal nature or of a basketball nature?

^^^ “There seems to be some “word” leaking now that the season is finally over.”

i might be wrong on this, but wasnt the season over a long time ago? like the moment we lost to Clemson over a motnh ago?

That’s exactly what I heard, and the player doing the crossing over is married.

Nevertheless, if it was something like this, come-on! That might explain why two players were at odds with each other but then again, I can’t understand why the entire team would have an issue with it. If the issue is a ‘bad apple’ then Sid should have sat Gavin…. er,… uh, whoever or kicked them off the team for ‘unspecified violations’. I certainly can’t see the whole team masquerading all season over something like this.

nah statered^ i bet courtney sold some bunk weed to his teamates causing them to be as lethargic and lazy as he is.

when did this said infidelity occur in november or in feb?

  7. jmartineau 03/17/2008 at 2:21 PM #

Hmmm, could it be one of our players was caught pentrating the lane so to speak. Hopefully not, and even more so I hope they didn’t kick it back out to a teammate to try a 3-way, er, umm, a 3 pointer.

I heard from a source who heard from a source that constant turnovers, ill timed passes, no rebounding offensively or defensively and not much defense might have played a part in all of this. Can’t be sure. But with the season over someone may have the time to look over those stats and determine if it’s true.

    ^^^ BoKnows. He does know.

I don’t think any ONE thing could cause this season, but I’d love to hear a simple answer for sure. If it’s a simple answer as GA is alluding to, then maybe I won’t be so pissed this summer. I checked all of the usual rumor mills.. well.. ok… just the wolf web. Nothing there. It must be a rumor that’s kept tightly if it’s not on there yet.

First thing I did think was “Man, maybe that tennis player from earlier this year decided to have his way with some basketball players as well… that’d demoralize myself.”

One explanation for all the problems of this season would be like finding the one principle that explains all things in the universe–there are just so many things that would have to addressed.
What’s all the talk about Sid’s job being in trouble after next year if he has another terrible year? Who’s going to fire him? Firing a coach after 3 years? It takes years to build a good program. Who do you think we are, Carolina (sarcasm)??!!

Was he nuts over the basketball platers too? If so, I hope we don’t have any Reggie Love pics floating around out there.

“A new story is churning through the rumor mill that would explain it all. Until I hear more from elsewhere I just can’t bring myself to spread what at this point is baseless rumor. There seems to be some “word” leaking now that the season is finally over. It’s going to be really interesting to see if what I’ve heard starts creeping up in other places. If it does and it’s true, I completely understand why the coaches remained so tight-lipped, why the chemistry on this team was horrid and why things got progressively worse as the season went on.”

I knew it! One of the coaches got Costner pregnant. Explains it all…

if it was gavin, that might explain why his level of play went down toward the end of the season. he wasnt getting any PT at home.

I guess since it is out now we can announce that last fall Sid accepted the position of Head Coach/GM with NBA expansion Tijuana Gusano’s next season.

The team is owned by Donald Trump and he recently said “I try to learn from the past, but I plan for the future by focusing exclusively on the present. That’s were the fun is and that is why I’m bringing Coach Lowe to Baja Norte.”

As bad as things seemed this year, I almost find it hard to believe it’s all on one guy cheating on another guy’s girl. To understanding how far things went south I’d have to surf a little further down the shoreline of debauchery. Can we back up to that Tennis player dude for a minute?

  17. jmartineau 03/17/2008 at 2:54 PM #

Mr Wolfpack, please put down the crack pipe. We couldn’t have a made a post-season tournament if we created one ourselves. The Les Robinson Invitational did sound pretty catchy though.

  18. packbackr04 03/17/2008 at 2:55 PM #

    we really made the CBI?
Gavin must have done some foul things to her for it to have made the team disinegrate the way it did.

“the player doing the crossing over is married”

I’m not sure how many of our players are married, but I found a link from May of 2006 that said “Grant … has married his high-school girlfriend, Choi said, and the couple have a 1-year-old child together.”

Hmmm, sounds like maybe someone’s girlfriend should have been our PG as she was possibly the best ball handler amongst the crowd.

I still think that the JJ Hicksons will come to our school. We will be good in 3-4 years. Stick with the program. I would love to recruit some Chris Washburns & Charles Shacklefords. That is what we need here at SFN. We need to instill fear into opposing teams. Those type of guys will do it for us. BTW, UNC is not the best team in the conference like some of you are saying. I give that title to Clemson or Duke. Just look at Duke for a moment. The find a way to win. Even when the chips were down for them in their games against us. They found a way to win. Duke has the greatest coach of all time, the nicest looking school, the best looking women on campus, and they have what you really need to be good in the ACC, the OFFICIALS!!!
