Saturday NCAAT Thread (Down Goes Evil! Down Goes Evil!)

Belmont almost took Duke out Thursday night, and Huggy Bear and crew finished the job today. UConn and asshole-in-chief Jim Calhoun were bounced yesterday. UNC is the last team left to carry the banner of evil in the big dance. Still bummed about our Tigers, but it could be worse.

Kevin Love is a very good player. I do wish he would lose the Hopsbrough/Dook boy flop. He is better than both.

“Wow – either Xavier of West Virginny will make the regional final (to be slaughtered by UCLA).”

Maybe not! … A&M playing the bruins tough, but I’m not sure they can hang on in Anaheim … It appears that UCLA gets a few calls this season 😉

The Michigan State – Pitt football contest is actually somewhat watchable … Wisconsin sure made a few nice blocks on the line and defensive tackles against Kansas State earlier today … Big Ten Football on the hardwood – gotta love it!

It is a crock of shit that UNC and Duke get all the attention. You would think that the greedy ACC at some point would want to make money off of some other teams. Like ShootingGuard posted only promoting two teams will be the ACC’s downfall. It’s like the old NBA where the only two teams are the Celtics and the Lakers. Only when the NBA front office started letting other teams from other markets get involved did they really start seeing more popularity and money. The ACC front office is to blinded by their own blue loyalty to be smart enough to allow all ACC teams to be great. When will they learn? Probably never.

John Thompson III made an interesting observation about Stephen Curry and Davidson–“He can shoot the cover off the the ball, and he has a group of people that he’s playing with that is not threatened by that.” Interesting, when you consider that we had J.J. who could be dominant, but he was surrounded by a group of guys that was threatened by/jealous of that.

i hope his camp tryout reflects the truth, a future 3rd year/expiring contract D-Leaguer.

Mark Turgeon of Texas A&M was available two years ago…the whole time I was watching the game, I was wondering, “Did Jed even call Turgeon?” Played for Kansas, won at Wichita State, is a young, up and coming Coach…oh well. I really wish A&M would’ve beaten UCLA. The West bracket is a joke…UCLA…just like the tourney committee wanted, has a breeze to the Final Four. Shootingguard, I completely agree with your earlier post.

Beowulf, I posted almost the exact same sentiment on the ESPN message boards, in response to all the Dookies upset over a “Duke has lost the mystique” article. Dookies think they are hated because they win, but they are really hated because of the way they win. And it’s not just us, it’s country-wide.

You are exactly right, they are COACHED to “play” the way they do. That’s why I will never agree that K is great coach. Paulus tried a flop today on the same type of play as when Javi clocked him in the head (earning my undying gratitude), and he was just left sitting on his ass as the play continued down court. heh

One of the first few plays down the court Paulus hit a screen and reacted just like he got hit by a shovel and it was called a offensive foul on WV. I remember when he did that against us when he ran into Costner, after he complained about a no call as we scored off it the ref told him that if he did it again he’d call a foul on Paulus, not Costner.

I honestly think coach K is a great coach, he realizes that he has a bunch of unathletic white boys out on the court, and unless he teaches them to play dirty, that Duke will never win. If coach K had more athletes he’d probably play the right way. Just depends on what ammunition you have. Not to say that I agree with it, but he has to make due with what he has.

I would say that UCLA is the other “evil” that is still in the tourney. They’ve been given a cakewalk, and they still were almost beat by Texas A&M. Even though they are over-rated, I don’t think anyone left in their region can beat them. Texas A&M – sadly enough – was the next best team in their region.

Respectfully disagree w/ your theory on why Duke flops so much this season and last (unathletic white boys who can’t win otherwise)

K has had plenty of athletes in the past, and they have all clearly been taught the art of the flop … Battier was by far the worst offender and I would consider him a fairly good athlete … Also, Jason Williams did it a ton as well – and before his motorcycle accident he was definitely a good athlete … It has always happened … Lance Thomas does today … Nolan Smith … etc.

Try to catch one of their old games on Espn Classic and you’ll see the same tactics that you see today … you’ll just notice that they get away w/ it so much more b/c refs were even more lazy and unwise to “Duke tactics” than today if you can believe that … The ACC truly loves Duke, you can see through the refs that the ACC has put their seal of approval on Duke’s style of play as the #1 way to play the game … Too bad it doesn’t translate to tournament time anymore b/c it’s a bullsh*t style of play

I think if you play at Duke and see significant minutes your ass is EXPECTED to hit the floor a certain number of times … Just a theory, but I think we can assume this from years of watching them play … The flop / taking charges has to be their #1 defensive principle … It must be 🙂 … And that only comes from the man in charge …

It is ruining ACC basketball 🙁 … While other leagues are getting more and more physical, the ACC is stuck trying to enforce it’s own style of play that favors finesse teams like Dooook and Chapel Hill … Those days are long over … Duke gets to the tournament and loses to teams like Michigan State or Pitt every year now …

I have no problem with physical play, but it does need to be cleaned up some across the nation … The Big Ten is abhorable with it’s nightly football contests masquerading as basketball games and the Big East has always been too rough (6 fouls, really?) … That said, the ACC needs to catch up

The ACC’s answer to rough play is to call too many charges … How much f*ckin sense does that make? The ACC’s answer should be to enforce the rules on off the ball clutching, grabbing, holding, and wrestling and ask other leagues to do the same …

But therein lies the catch-22 of ACC/Dook basketball … They can’t call all that off the ball clutching and grabbing b/c that would mean every single Doook player would foul out in the first half

Good job Doook and ACC office … way to singlehandedly ruin ACC basketball and ensure ALL of our teams are now at a deficit come Tournament time … F*ckers … Good job Swofford and Clougherty … Dumb Sh*ts

I missed the Duke game but after seeing the result, I decided that Duke may be awarded the win down the road. I mean seriously, can Bob Huggins run a clean program?

  13. Wolfpack_1995 03/23/2008 at 12:10 PM #

Huggins also has Billy Hahn(former Gary Williams’ assistant) on his shady team. Hahn is know to be shady who also ran the LaSalle university basketball program into the ground with scandal.

The whole WVU program is nasty.

    Ed89.

In regards in Turgeon(former Kansas guard), RoyBoy stated that he did not want to coach in the same conference as him.

Roy knows that Turgeon is a good coach and Roy did not want him to end up at State.

More UNC BS we have to put up with.

^^Thanks for the info, Wolfpack_1995. Have to wonder if Dook would be like they are if Bubas had never gone there when they were a 3rd or 4th thought on Tobacco Road….
