NCAAT Selection Thread

Naturally, UNC and Duke get cushy draws. Duke won’t play a good team before the Elite Eight. The other teams in their way? All are very weak relative to seed – #3 Xavier, #6 Purdue, #7 West Virginia, #10 Arizona. UNC doesn’t fare quite as well, despite their #1 overall seed. Still, only one decent opponent in their half of the regional bracket, #4 Washington State. I said “decent”, not good.

Our valiant Tigers’ path to the Sweet Sixteen goes through Villanova and Vandy. Kansas would be very tough to beat if OP’s Tigers are to top Rick Barnes’ best run at Clemson.

The only injustice I see is the omission of Virginia Tech. You will never convince me that any of Baylor, Soth Alabama, St. Joseph’s, Villanova, Arizona, or Oregon is as good as the Hokies. It;s certainly indisputable if you evaluate how each team is playing right now.

    chris92heel,

I’m not really trying to be smart a*s or anything, I just don’t see any other way to ask this question without sounding like it though. But seriously, isn’t there some intelligent conversation happening somewhere with your fellow heels over on some of your own, powder blue flavored blogs?

Your team just won the ACCT, you should celebrating, but instead you’re here, posting on an NC State blog???

I mean, what does that say exactly?

  2. PAPacker 03/16/2008 at 8:42 PM #

Good question redfred2, chris, know you are welcome

  3. chris92heel 03/16/2008 at 8:55 PM #

    red,

1 – I can be on more than one board at a time

2 – I’ve been celebrating all afternoon – in fact, I have something of an in-day hangover right now

3 – There are only so many ways of saying that we’re 32-2, the ACC regular season and tourney champs, and really damn good. ;>

4 – Despite the rivalry issues, there are a lot of really knowledgeable sports fans over here.

UCLA coach Ben Howland was just on the EspnU Bracketology show (it’s also being shown on Espn2 if you’re interested in watching) and Coach Howland is the first coach I’ve heard in a long time that said the Tournament doesn’t need to be expanded …

He said teams trying to play their way in and big upsets are what make the Tournament the beautiful event that it is … Couldn’t have said it better, Coach … Thank God there’s at least one rational head coach out there when it comes to this stuff

  5. redfred2 03/16/2008 at 9:06 PM #

No, that was actually a pretty obnoxious question, my apologies chris92heel.

    UT and Memphis are over-rated.
    Davidson and S. Alabam under.
    make some serious seed-money
    and pick W. Kentucky.
    Glover? anyone?

  7. PAPacker 03/16/2008 at 9:09 PM #

Can we take the Clemson sign down now? It was a great idea but as far as I’m concerned it is football/baseball/basketball recruiting season and all of those we are at war with Clemson as much as anybody else. I liked the adopt a team thing

  8. redfred2 03/16/2008 at 9:13 PM #

They’re good, but I don’t know if I really want Davidson to do too much damage in the tournament right now. Then, if things don’t somehow rapidly get better around here, we’ll yank their coach.

Where’s Dan, he’ll give me hell for that one.

lot of hate for tyler h. name one ncsu bb player since DT that is better.

Tom Gugs, Chris Corch. and Rodney Monroe are the first three that come to mind

Kenny Carr anyone?? (no I’m nowhere near old enough to remember (born 10 years too late)) but unless I’m mistaken, did he not lead the ACC in scoring 2 years in a row immediately after DT?

Sorry, back to the topic at hand…

    Wolfpack football.
    Wolfpack basketball.

    Everything else is irrelevant.

UNC is playing their regional games in Raleigh, does that mean the RBC? how messed up is that.

I think it does. I just hope all those NCSU banners give the Tarheels some bad mojo, but I doubt it. I bet the Tarheels have a better winning percentage at the RBC center thant he Wolfpack does.

Spanky, I just logged on and read all comments. You beat me to the punch on Kenny Carr. He was a great player-6’8″, excellent rebounder and interior defender who could play power forward and small forward and had excellent shooting touch around the basket and out to 20+ feet. He left for NBA after his junior year and had a solid pro career(14 years I think). He was a better all-around player than Gugs, Fire and Ice.

Redfred, McKillop would not leave Davidson for our mess. He has been there for 19 years. His youngest son is a freshman on the team this year. He has said many times that Davidson is his dream job and he has discouraged several interested teams over the years.

If the situration presents itself, we need to give Barnes all of the money in the Wolfpack Club accounts after firing Jed of course.

  13. Sweet jumper 03/16/2008 at 9:54 PM #

Kenny Carr was definitely better than Travels Hopsbrough.

  14. choppack1 03/16/2008 at 10:00 PM #

why Kris Lang did not make it in the nba is beyond me. also he and hansjobrough have very similar games.

As freshman – that’s true. However, Hansboro plays much harder and has developed something other than a jump hook.

Arizona must have gotten in based on their reputation (and RPI ranking). 8-10 in conference, 4-8 down the stretch, lost in 2nd round of P-10 tourney. I can’t believe that there weren’t a number of teams with better resumes…and I’m not talking about ASU either.

  16. ktoh 03/16/2008 at 10:37 PM #

We can’t really make fun of anyones out of conference schedule………4 teams for us is right ,our leagues was pretty medicore at best this season…….so to finish last while losing 9 in a row can’t wait for sids excuses next seadon.

  17. VaWolf82 03/16/2008 at 10:38 PM #

I just noticed that BJD95’s favorite conference (MVC) only got one team in this year.

  18. WolfpackWoody 03/16/2008 at 10:42 PM #

Don’t you think the banner is a bit much?

  19. BJD95 03/16/2008 at 10:57 PM #

The Valley was down this year, VaWolf. Sadly, it was.

We continue to adopt the Tigers until their dancing is done, I think. Then we can go back to our regularly scheduled misery. Don’t worry, we won’t run out of misery to report and discuss.

Think that nit bid last year will be Sids apex of his coaching tenure here …………totally still sick about all this and to have the games at rbc it is a disgrace.

  22. MrPlywood 03/17/2008 at 12:58 AM #

RE: Arizona in – the selection guy said “The Wildcats were 16-6 with Nic Wise and Jerryd Bayless, and their strength of schedule [was high]. When they weren’t in the lineup they were a different team.” Well, duh. The committee is really opening a can of worms if they openly admit to considering a teams’ performance with and without key players. Most any team can point to injuries as a reason for losing games.

  23. kyjelly 03/17/2008 at 1:20 AM #

hell with that logic about arizona we won 4 games in league finished just below .500 overall all without a coach?

  24. Wulfpack 03/17/2008 at 6:19 AM #

For anyone that is interested, VT, Maryland and FSU got NIT bids. A possible Florida/Ohio State rematch down the road?

I think when they got to Va. Tech the committee said, “NC State’s easiest and last win of the season. NEXT!”
