Technician: Honeymoon is Over

We would like to link to Technician more often, but we limit ourselves with a focus on quality here and unfortunately the inexperienced, usually uninformed student perspective falls a little short of our standards.

But today we tip our hat Nick Jeffreys for this commentary that deserves mention.

The first year and few months have been just like any marriage — you forget about the bad habits and remember all the good.

But now that stage is over between Sidney Lowe and N.C. State fans.

And on Saturday afternoon, it didn’t just end — it came to a screeching halt.

Yet, it was bound to happen. No couple can ignore problems forever. And after the North Carolina game at the Dean Dome, those problems became pretty clear.

In other commentary on the web today Andrew Jones accurately points out that “The Onus is on Coach Lowe”. Don’t worry, the entry isn’t quite as simple and masterful of the obvious as the headline. Jones also highlights some of the same Jay Bilas quotes that we highlighted on Saturday. (It would have been nice to get a little link there).

My column in the November 21 edition of the Wilmington Star-News about N.C. State’s basketball problems could just as easily run today. Two days after the loss to New Orleans, I penned that State had chemistry issues, internal issues, basketball issues – issues galore. I wrote that it was up to coach Sidney Lowe to fix the problems before the ugliness became a part of the team’s fiber, at which the season would then become a train wreck.

The Wolfpack hasn’t crashed yet, but after Saturday’s 31-point dismantling at the hands of rival North Carolina, it’s clear State’s off the track and rumbling toward an abysmal season unless changes are made immediately.
