Inside State’s 6-Game Win Streak

Two general articles out there today to share. This one from Ed Hardin pretty much just rambles about the entire league but has this observation of NC State:

N.C. State has been an out-and-out flop with no one bringing the Wolfpack along. Dissension and uninspired play, something Sidney Lowe simply must rectify in the coming weeks, have thwarted the team’s early development. Look for State to get back its swagger and emerge as the conference’s third-best team, but the Pack has to do it in January or it probably will be too late.

As easy as it is to accept, I don’t fully subscribe to the transitive theory of comparing scores of third party opponents. There are way too many variables involved and every game is different.

By Andrew Jones of Wilmington Star

N.C. State has won six consecutive basketball games. But what has the streak proven about the Wolfpack, if anything?

Wins are wins, some will argue, but how a team plays is also important, especially if shoring up some previous problem areas are a must as conference play nears.

State has shown a few glimpses of being a competitive team come ACC time, but more often than not, the Wolfpack isn’t even an ordinary team despite its inflated 10-3 record.

This isn’t saying State can’t string together some quality ACC wins and work itself into the NCAA tournament. But if the selections were announced today, there’s no way on earth the Pack would be included, especially after another poorly played victory over a lousy team Saturday.

You must check out sectionsix’s analysis of the NCCU game. State is going to absolutely blow this team out of the water.

We haven’t blown anyone out, so why start now!

We overlook NCCU, with the big game against Carolina coming up and it’s a lot closer that we think it should be.

Just my opinion. Hope I’m wrong and you’re right.

I don’t know if today’s “car left sitting for a while” piece over on Packpride was written by the SID’s office, but it is the biggest load of crap I have read in awhile. How pathetic it is to have State fan sites digging deep to come up for reasons to excuse what are obviously player motivation issues.

^ You mean you don’t think a car and a basketball team are the same thing?

How about the “good news is right around the corner” line (because of conference play)? LOL! More like “regular ass-beatings are right around the corner.”

Usually, I would say you can’t overlook anyone, but NC Central is just putrid. Nebraska held them under 30 points for the game (while scoring over 70 points). Dook beat them like 120-50. They are awful. Should be a confidence-building tune-up for State to get it going from behind the arc.

^^^ Trust me, after outings against “Putrid, but not as putrid” teams… anything can happen if this team doesn’t show up tomorrow. Although, much unlike Presby, NC Central’s players don’t seem to give a damn. To turn it over as much as they do, you simply just don’t care. It’s probably not because of their attitude, it’s just that once you’ve gotten spanked 18 times, you lose hope, Presby is different because they view it as a challenge… NC Central just seems to be taking their hits so that they can join Division 1. It’s going to be a match up of two teams who right now just don’t seem to have any fire… it should be fun.

What makes us even more unpredictable is the loss of Degand. His last game against Seton Hall was his best. He was a different player. I was impressed with him in that game, prior to which I thought he wasn’t close to ACC point guard material.

However many ACC wins we have this year it will be a few less than if we had Degand.

How we beat a team that packs it in and zones us is equally challenging as those that pressure the hell out of us and we turn it over 20 times.

Either way, we can lose unless our guys start to play 40 minutes of ball on both ends of the court.

Degand didn’t play against Seton Hall. He was injured in an earlier game against Cincy.
