Bowden’s Buyout Structure

With the annual talk of Clemson fans’ disappoiintment with Tommy Bowden — and our Athletics Director thinks OUR fans are difficult? — I am estimating that there will come a time in the future when the information and facts information included here will be of value to a conversation that you may have. So, I just thought that we would post this today for archives.

(Speaking of archives, have you checked out our new archives and the use of “tags” that is accessible by clicking on the archives tab in the top banner?)

Tommy Bowden’s restructured contract leaves Clemson with little wiggle room. If Clemson fires Bowden after the 2008 season, it will owe him $4 million. That buyout would be reduced by $500,000 with each ensuing season of the contract, which runs through 2014. Not bad for a coach who hasn’t won a conference championship in nine seasons or a division title since the league expanded to 12 teams in 2005. The pressure will grow next season: Clemson could return as many as 18 starters, including dynamic RB C.J. Spiller and underrated and efficient QB Cullen Harper

While you are here and while Clemson is on your mind…do yourself a favor and click on this entry from the New Year if you were out of pocket during those times and missed the discussion in the comments section.

I expect this imformation will come in handy in about 2-3 years when the locals, I live in SC, start to get restless again. 🙂

Clemson opens next season against Alabama in the Georgia Dome (which makes little sense to me, as both home stadiums are much bigger).

It’ll be interesting to see which fanbase gets restless first depending on who wins this one.

VOTE for Statefansnation.com for a 2008 “Bloggie” Award

    http://2008.bloggies.com/

Sifting through my pile of 200 emails per day, I came across one asking me to nominate my favorite blogs for an Internet Bloggie Award. The only one I could think of was this one, as I sure as heck am not going to nominuate myself and think that this site is a lot better (by a long shot) than mine is anyway.

I put up SFN for the 2008 “Sports Site” and “Best Group Blog” Bloggie Award, and I’d like to suggest to all of you folks that enjoy this site to do the same. No cost, of course, all you have to do is go to the link above and enter in your favorites. Truth is, these guys deserve some recognition for all of time they take to research, write and format the articles we read every day.

    Cheers.

The rumbling and restlessness may start earlier than 2-3 years from now:

DaJuan Morgan has declared for the NFL Draft according to PackPride. He inidcated he will secure an agent so he’s gone. I beleive he is a pro player and will get drafted 3rd round do to his average size for an NFL safety. I think he should stay, but I wish him the best.

LunaticFringe, what part of SC do you live in and how long? I’ve lived here almost 30 years and tried to avoid “picking sides”, but it’s almost impossible. After my daughter and son rejected Clemson for Winthrop and USC respectively, I had to “pick sides” just to keep peace in the family. Holtz going to USC helped the transition somewhat though.

Opening game this year, well, it’s gonna be difficult, but I’ll be pulling for the Pack, but not very optimistic!
