Michigan Hires Rich Rodriguez; Jim Grobe is From Huntington, WVa

..I’m just saying…

Check out this link to the West Virginia message boards. Some fans are supporting former NC State assistant, Doc Holliday for the West Virginia job; and The Sporting News has their initial list of potential candidates already up.

Please feel free to use this entry to discuss other coaching items that are developing. For example, we haven’t discussed David Cutcliffe’s hiring at Duke.

There is no doubt that Cutcliffe is quite an improvement over Carl Franks and Ted Roof.

Cutcliffe went 44-29 and led Ole Miss in five bowl games from 1999-2004, and will remain with Tennessee for its Outback Bowl appearance next month against Wisconsin while also embracing the challenge of reversing the fortunes of a football program that has struggled mightily while most of Duke’s other teams have flourished.

Cutcliffe has longed for another head coaching opportunity ever since Ole Miss fired him following a 4-7 finish in 2004, a year after winning the Cotton Bowl and the first season of the post-Eli Manning era in Oxford.

Ole Miss was crazy to push out Cutcliffe, by the way.

Off-topic: There’s a vote for the Top 10 best sports highlights on ESPN for those into that kind of stuff. Lorenzo Charles’ dunk is about a third of the way down the page:

Terrelle Pryor is also supposed to be a whale of a SF as well, might end up being their version of Donovan McNabb if they can get him.

Off-topic: In a response about questions regarding our inept AD, Oblinger responded in one of the typical avoiding answering any questions.

“I ask that you continue your support for our athletics program, Lee Fowler and NC State. Mr. Fowler is very appreciative of the Wolfpack fan base and is always open to talking with and listening to our fans. I encourage you to call him at 919.515.2109 to discuss your concerns.”

    See we’re not lunatics… he’s very appreciative of us….

“Until you give us a link, please focus your comments on our blog on the content of entries as opposed to your personal opinions of whether you like the entries. Nobody could give a shit.”

    ZING!

    “Where is our yuletide spirit?”

Most wonderful time of the year my Irish ass.

Now, on topic, MI will learn soon enough that they have yet ANOTHER coach who has problems in the big games.
I, for one, am 100% for Grobe going elsewhere…ANYWHERE as long as it’s elsewhere.

I bet if any of us tried to call Jed, we would be directed to voicemail file #13.

MatSci94 sparked memory – and indeed, Cutcliffe was told to fire a couple of his assistants by the Chancellor (an Ole Miss All-American kicker who is I believe married to a former Miss Mississippi) and the AD. He refused, and they fired him. I’ve got a lot of respect for a Coach who will stand up for his men – though they did need to make some changes after the 4-7 season.

Cutcliffe’s reputation will attract some serious QB prospects – he may be the best QB coach in the country, certainly one of them. The trick will be to recruit the rest of the team.

The craziness at Arkansas certainly will work in Ole Miss’ favor I hope!!

As to keep coaches who want to move on – think about the consequences of that. Not a good scene dude.

Most coaches do. That’s why they’re called “big games.”

    Rabidwolf,
if the big game you’re referring to is the WVU v. Pitt game, there is no way WV loses if Pat White isn’t injured. when your best player is out, you kinda get a pass in my book. and white makes that offense go.

Not bad for a “fallback” option.

I feel kinda bad for WVa – when you’ve got an alum coaching his alma mater at a big time BCS school – you usually think that you’re safe.

Since we’re talking about football…did anyone read Slanders column in the N&Oh?

    http://www.newsobserver.com/news/story/835781.html

I’m seriously suprised he hasn’t found that R.Williams has minority blood, just like B.Davis….

Does the N&Oh not check this kid’s work?

“So yeah, Joe, tell us why Broadway didn’t get the job. Better yet, tell him. ”

How about: Cutcliff is a proven coach at Div 1-A, and Broadway is not.

I have a dream one day that a man will be hired based on his accomplishments rather than skin color.

    Oh….wait…..

If there is only one program in America that should be able to put social agendas aside and simply hire the most qualified person, it’s Duke! and what would Mr. Saunders think if duke hired broadway, he struggles for 3 years (as just about anyone would), and gets fired. is duke then racist for firing him? how come Roof got more time? etc. etc.
