Hess Holds Back on Roy

I fear the day that I am going to have to search our archives for the following quote from today’s Charlotte Observer in regards to the UNC-Nevada game last night. But, I just have a feeling and didn’t want to ignore this opportunity.

Referees aren’t enforcing the NCAA’s “bench decorum” mandate designed to punish angry coaches with technical fouls.

Roy Williams’ tirade over an inexplicable missed basket interference call warranted a technical under the new rules, but referee Karl Hess allowed him to protest.

^^ The history books are full of travesties, just to name a couple:

In Charlottesville during V years, UVa runs back to the free throw circle (we’re up with seconds to go and shooting from the line) and the referee puts the ball on the stripe before we get there, so when we pick up the ball, it’s a violation, givning the ball back (and ultimately a game we had won) to UVa. The only way they could have mathmatically won. Never seen (heard, actually) any like it before or after.

The UMd game where Damon got the technical (and pretty much ended his career, rightly or wrongly). Maybe the worst refereed game I’ve ever seen (I realize the Alabama game, the Duke tourney game, the second half of the UMd tourney game, the ending of the Vandy game….), but this game was so one sided, it just couldn’t be defended. But of course it was by virtually everyone who had access to ink.

We have very few friends. (No shit, Sherlock….)

I have my own way of making the many wrongs right. Someone needs to post obituaries when certain people die, as I have this list of people whose graves I’m going to piss on…..

I simply don’t trust basketball officials in the college game or in the NBA. The funniest thing about the NBA ref who allegedly “threw” games was that he had one of the highest ratings in the NBA.

The way the game is called now, basketball officiating is totally subjective. You’re not supposed hand check – it happens all the time. You’re not supposed to move on picks – it happens all the time. You’re not supposed to go over the back – it happens all the time. This “coaching box” rule is just more power to the refs to screw the little guys of college basketball. We all know that the teams that will be punished by this new quirky rules won’t be the Heels or Devils, but rather the “other” guys.

Royboy gets what he wants. It is hard for me to watch UNC-ch because the games are not called both ways from the outset. Just the way it is. We’ve won 8 on 5 before and can do it again. These recent UNC-ch teams remind of the FSU football teams of the 90s. What comes around…

I work with a couple Carolina grads and a Duke fanboy (who naturally did not attend). They get this biggest kick out of our complaints about officiating that seem to run for decades. They think we are hallucinating and — no shit — think **they** get screwed on calls when they play State.

The coach’s box rule is pretty simple; Pearl should have been T’d up. He was past the hash mark and on the court. Now the arbitrary enforcement of this rule is, at best, maddening. I have vowed to my co-workers that is will bite State squarely in the ass against Carolina and/or Duke and they accuse me of a persecution complex.

Just because you have a persecution complex doesn’t mean you’re not persecuted.

Right, kind of like the saying that just because you think people are out to get you doesn’t mean that you aren’t.

Even if he was yelling and all the way out of the coaching box, Roy’s hair was still perfect.
