Woo Hoo. Looks like I broke the news on the previous thread.

My secret insider source is ….. the same as everybody else.

    Interesting. Veddy interesting.

I think Arkansas needs to make that second pitch to Mr. Davis.

Wow, if this holds up, internet media has scooped the traditional media…as of posting this comment, I scanned N&O, WRAL, and Winston-Salem Journal websites, and all of them had the Grobe to Arkansas story still up…

  4. Wulfpack 12/06/2007 at 12:28 PM #

    Awesome! Just awesome.

This is quickly becoming embarrassing for the Razorbacks. Sorta reminds of a certain basketball coach search a couple years ago .. it’s much funnier from the outside.

    Swing and a miss!!!

  7. RAWFS 12/06/2007 at 12:30 PM #

I won’t say I told you so, because most of you probably thought what I did: do not be certain any coach has taken a job until he walks into a press conference at the hiring school wearing their hat.

Nothing changes, Wake will still beat us every year.

  9. GoldenChain 12/06/2007 at 12:32 PM #

P.S. I can’t see them going to Butch because there is no way he would let himself be a ‘second choice’.

  10. Pack92 12/06/2007 at 12:33 PM #

Hey, it reminds me of the U of A basketball search! We only thought we had it bad! At least 2 quality guys WANTED to come to Raleigh!

^I could not agree with noah more. How much further is this going to go before they pay a guy who would jump ship in a heartbeat to go home? ‘Ol Butch-slap must be getting giddy as he watches how high his perceived worth must be climbing.

  11. Pack92 12/06/2007 at 12:35 PM #

I don’t think Butch was a second choice. He was just going to be a very EXPENSIVE choice.

Well, the Heels (seemingly) keep the Chief, and in the face of all improbably odds, the Deacs keep Grobe, so that just sets the table for the grand finale, TOB to Navy (to replace PJ), just to insure our position as the Laughingstock of All Things College Sports.

You couldn’t have in any other way, walking the neverending trail that is Wolfpack Road. It’s a script that’s too obvious for fate to miss…….

We learned the hard way, he isn’t your coach until the presser.

SFN: That’s not true. He isn’t your coach until he signs the contract and starts working. Arkansas HAD a press conference to introduce Dana Altman as their coach and then he got on a plane and went back to Creighton.

  14. BJD95 12/06/2007 at 12:38 PM #

Butch would be THIRD now, behind 2 conference rivals. Still, if the $$ was right, I bet he’d take it.

Good for Wake and good for the ACC. Like I said all along, I expect Grobe to stay as long as Wellman does.

i read yesterday that TOB said Noone associated with Mich had contacted him and that he wasnt going anywhere. i dont think TOB is going anywhere. thank god

i think Ark. might go back after Butch. who else is left? i think PJ will take the GT job.

Is the Arkansas plane still in at RDU?

Maybe it was just a central airport for Grobe, Butch, and Skip?

  17. RedTerror29 12/06/2007 at 12:46 PM #

Navy won’t hire TOB because of the non-option coach stigma 🙂

TOB’s gotta be thinking he’d like one those fat raises everyone else is getting. I’d like to see us hold pat this year, have a big breakout year next year, then open up the checkbook.

At what point does this all start to tarnish both the local and the national media’s credibility?

We’re largely to blame, since we readily feed on whatever so-called information they happen to jump on for any given situation. Think RAWFS had a comment somewhere else about how he wouldn’t believe any coach was accepting any position until he was at that university doing the press conference. After our mess, I decided the same thing.

In that same regard, I still think Les Miles will be the next Michigan head coach because I don’t believe any coach that says he’s staying, either.

“At what point does this all start to tarnish both the local and the national media’s credibility?”

    About 1995.

  20. LRM 12/06/2007 at 12:52 PM #

    RedTerror,
If it’s all the same, I’d just assume win and never to have to open up the checkbook. Think we could all use a break from that.

  21. RAWFS 12/06/2007 at 1:29 PM #

^ Speaking of opening checkbooks, there are probably lots of Wolfpack fans that need to pay off their annuals and LTRs this month.

  22. GoldenChain 12/06/2007 at 1:38 PM #

I don’t know what business you’re in but in mine when we make a business offer to a guy then he says ‘NO THANKS’, then we offer that same opportunity to someone else, the “perception” would be that he was a second choice.
You can speculate all you want but the idea that there is only one coach out there for Arkansas is just plain wrong. Xarolina threw out the shark repellent, so I’m not seeing it.

I will say that the net (thus all of us!) along with the proliferation in cable and radio stations dedicated to sports talk have contributed to this highly speculative atmosphere we’re in nowadays.

  23. WolftownVA81 12/06/2007 at 1:53 PM #

^^^ RAWFS, you like Bobby Cremens – nothing is a guaranty until the check is cashed.

  24. WolftownVA81 12/06/2007 at 1:57 PM #

Correction: You mean like Bobby Cremens.

  25. RAWFS 12/06/2007 at 2:02 PM #

^ Good point, VA81. Good point.

I will say that the net (thus all of us!) along with the proliferation in cable and radio stations dedicated to sports talk have contributed to this highly speculative atmosphere we’re in nowadays.

True enough. And isn’t amazing how all of these so-called experts are proven wrong time after time? Even more amazingly, they seem to be getting their rumors from the same places as the unwashed masses: friends of friends and message boards and blogs.

One thing I can say about SFN that’s always pleased me personally is that what they report they report from decent sources. These guys here may turn out wrong from time to time, but it was right when they said it.

At the end of the day, I’m finding that ESPN.com, the local media and other more “mainstream” outlets are far less nimble and accurate than a lot of places like SFN.
