Degand Tears ACL, Out For The Season

Merry Christmas, Wolfpack style.

NC State head men’s basketball coach Sidney Lowe has announced that sophomore point guard Farnold Degand will miss the remainder of the 2007-08 season after tearing his ACL last night in the win over Cincinnati. Degand will undergo surgery at a later date.

Trip–I don’t think after reading your entry that anyone can accuse you of being a glass half-empty kind of guy ; ] still solid, valid points. although it doesn’t look like javy is there yet, what we need most in our point guard is someone that can set up his teammates, and get the offense moving (well TO/assist ratio being a part of that). Yes, everyone recalls Lowe’s comment that MJ is a “run the show type of point guard” and naturally has us salivating from that. Lowe did say Javi can shoot, but the hand injury is a good point to keep in mind (and maybe also that Costner is coming off a knee injury over the summer, I know we have been riding him pretty hard on this site).

hahaha, yeah, i’m without a doubt a “the glass is half full” type of guy when it comes to viewing wolfpack sports. It’s easy to think otherwise when consisitantly bad things happen to the team. But, you’ve gotta take it as it comes, one door opens when another door shuts. It’s just nice to know that all of our point guard doors haven’t been shut just because of Degand. I was one of the people who were concerned about Sidneys decision to bring in 3 point guards at the same time, but it looks like he does know better than most of us.

Good article on gopack.com about the wolfpack curse of injuries.

“In its yearly promotion of one of golf’s biggest events, CBS calls the Masters “a tradition like no other.” NC State basketball, unfortunately, also seems to have a tradition like no other.”
“Since Watkins’ misfortune, the steady stream of bad news has come in waves. Ilian Evtimov (knee), Scooter Sherrill (ankle), Tony Bethel (groin), Jordan Collins (knee), Costner (leg) and Engin Atsur are some of the headliners on a rather forgettable list. This year’s curse actually started before the start of preseason practice when a pair of incoming freshmen sustained injuries. Forward Johnny Thomas never got started after undergoing a knee reconstruction, while point guard Javier Gonzalez missed most of the preseason with a broken hand.”

“An experienced point guard for North Carolina State: Sidney Lowe has a lot of issues this season, most notably trying to figure out how to divvy frontcourt playing time. But the problems there now pale in comparison to his point guard situation that turned bleak when Farnold Degand tore his anterior cruciate ligament Sunday. Keep in mind, N.C. State’s biggest question mark coming into this season was at point guard because of the loss of Engin Atsur (24 starts in 2006-07), and that was under the assumption Degand would be available. But now he’s not, and that’s not comforting for a team about to embark on an ACC schedule.”
