Now Hickson is in the mix, giving the Wolfpack another weapon on an already stacked front line. The former McDonald’s All-American finished with the second-best scoring day for a freshman in school history, while his 31 points marked the best outing for an N.C. State freshman in a season opener.

Hickson’s only misses on the night were at the free throw line, where he was seven of 10 for the night before leaving with less than a minute to play. It was the most points by a Wolfpack freshman in his first game since Ivan Wagner scored 29 against Virginia Military institute to open the 1996-96 season. It was also the second-most points ever scored by a Wolfpack fresh. Ernie Myers set that mark in 1983 with 35 points against Duke.

“he came across extremely humble in my eyes.”

I don’t really care how he comes across to the media. If Ben McCauley is especially humble, and provides a breathe of fresh air with his team attitude and hustle, then great! That’s what makes him special, and expecting every one else on the team to copy or immulate him is just not how life really is.

The “why no more McAuley minutes” whining will stop after UNO on Sun., but should be slowed down some in the mean time. He was sick leading up to the game, when he played he had two personnel fouls on him, and he AND Hickson did not play well together agaist the zone on thursday.

I don’t know if it’s because they practice against one another so much, or what it was, but the two of them playing the same time seemed to spell stagnant offense and TO’s the other night.

That is what a good coach can work out in practise .We will need them to play together to have a great season.

I expect players to be humble because it is an admirable character trait, not because Ben McCauley is humble. Our players are representatives of NCSU. The points they score out on the court are not the only aspect they should be judged by, character matters.

Having said that, I didn’t hear the whole interview and may have only picked up on the more self-congratulary parts. Also, I think he was nervous and may not have been giving his best answers. God only knows what would spew out of my mouth in that situation. I am definitely willing to give him the benefit of the doubt at this point.
